This when Jay-z took over hip-hop as the number 1. He invited MJ as his quest, saying to the world that he is the MJ of rap. Jayz a BOSS!
Michael didn’t look like he wanted to be there lmaoo 😂😂😂
Too many n-words 😆
53:09 most iconic moment
Real fans gonna watch the whole thing
Thank you... Cause I'm not watching all that
@@MrSmartboy1983 a REAL fan would
Thank you cause honey I was like "where?".
🎯Agreed very Iconic! Thank you!💛
RUclips used to be a place to watch archive footage. Sadly that’s not the case anymore. It’s a shame Viacom is doing this to you, they never post archive footage, you can’t even watch old episodes of Behind the Music
Hey don't feel bad i remember when Amazon was a book store smh
Why do you say that?
@@sterlingwitherspoon5709 why don't I say that?
Let it be known before someone else rewrites it we live in a everything started 5 mins ago era while some of us are from the "we were actually there" era just saying
Viacom is stupid
If you look closely Dame tryna get Mike to throw up the roc sign.... And Mike politely declines 😂. Like yea not gonna happen buddy, you didnt pay enuff for all that.
Lol
This has got to be the best time in rap history. Jay Z is a genius for this. This was very awesome. Never should be forgotten.
I still can't believe this footage just rocked up more then 20 years later out the fucken blue are you fucken kidding me.
@@tshalinekundi7635 😮
@@tshalinekundi7635 yeah that shit was crazy lmao this dude had priceless footage sitting in his basement for 20+ years 😂
“Don’t become the next contestant on that Summer Jam screen because you know who did you know what to you know who. Let’s keep this between me and you.” 😂😢😊😅
It’s crazy to see Jay at the peak of his powers like this.
Nas would soon break down all those powers, and make him apologize
thank you camera man for having a full battery.First time ever seeing this and I only watched this for the Michael Jackson part. good show Jay
It felt like Michael Jackson went back to the hood
LMAO
I like the man, don’t get me wrong, but was he even born there? Please

Mans had hella hits in 2001!! Goat not up for debate!
The greatest show ever Hov did Hov MVP 2001 NY
I just told someone this might’ve been the best summer jam performance ever and one of jayz best performances
2001 will forever be my favorite year. No matter how old I get, or how much money I’ll make. It will never compare to happiness I felt/experienced that year. Besides Aaliyah and then 9/11. 2001 was just a different time, the world was alive and in full effect.
People already saying like 50 cent if it wasn't for beyounce jay-z wouldn't be what he is today not true he was way more famous way before her he just put her in a position to become as famous as him so stop trying to discredit what this man has done for her and his legacy
Exactly. Jay’s 1st album was 96’. Bey’s 1st album was 2003.
She didn’t pop until he said “Got the Hottest Chick in the Game wearing my chain” on PSA.
Then of course, she went in to do her own thing & surpass him but Jay literally ushered in an entire generation from the mid 90’s to mid 2000’s.
I was there to experience this live
Damn 🔥
Lucky.
On June 16, 2001, the anticipation for my sophomore year was palpable, and it was a good time to be a fan of Jay-Z. His success with Dynasty and the upcoming release of The Blueprint solidified his position as a top artist, and his lyrical feuds with Prodigy and Nas only added fuel to the fire. Then, the cherry on top happened when Michael Jackson gave his stamp of approval, cementing Jay-Z's status as a leading figure in the rap/hip-hop scene. However, little did we know that this moment of triumph would soon be overshadowed by the tragic events of 9/11, shaking our world to its core.
8:27 classic moment
Jay Z brought us receipt culture.
Best Summer Jam set til this day!! Working at Def Jam, burnin it down in there!! #iwasthere
Were you an A&R at Def Jam in 2001?
MJ like Nigga give me my $500,000 so I can get outta this shit box. Lol.
naw, i think he was honored.
Yeah he looked like he didn't want to be up there 😂
He's there...I'm sure he's there to hang with Jay-z, not collect a check! Haters stay hatin!!!
Jay-Z invited him, and Michael said yes with no conditions or catches
MJ clearly was high or didn’t want to be there lol
this deserves millions of views. hip hop history!!
Wow wow wow I’m just in awwww it was really MJ legendary moment whoever recorded this video is a legend also what a time to be alive🤍
Historic moment. I was heading into my sophomore yr in college down in GA. No RUclips or live streaming back then so we just heard about Jay dissing Nas and Mobb Deep by name. They can have Kendrick and Drake, this is easily the best hip hop beef of all time. So glad that I was alive and aware enough to enjoy the culture when it was here

MJ said that in his MJ voice lol
7:02 Oh he performed Takeover EARLY 🤣 He was feeeeening!!! Jokes aside, Idc if I had to work security this night, I would’ve been hype just to witness this set
It’s crazy that, in a lot of ways, the revealing of Takeover and Prodigy’s childhood photo is remembered over this.
Been waiting for this footage for YEARS… legendary 💯💯💯
Summer jam need to be like this again
I think this might be the greatest summer jam performance I mean I seen some great summer jam performances but this might be the greatest

HIPHOPVCR# REAL HIP-HOP CULTURE FOR THE PEOPLE... BRING IT BACK.
This is some footage I thought I’d never see. Big time moment in Hip Hop and didn’t even drop the 3rd verse of Takeover.
This was just before blueprint dropped
Watching this again makes me thing like damn jay dame & Biggs really built that shit from the ground up they really had shit on lock from 98-03 ..with 2000-2001 being their hottest year …jay capped his run on top off with the blueprint crazy ! I say his run on top because 02-03 cam and 50 were the hottest in ny by then jay was already considered a goat
But Jay said that marketing plan was all him lol. When i watch it I see how calculated Jay was when all this went down. He was genius wit it. Even with Takeover, prodigy pictures, is that yo chick. Jay put a lot into this moment
@@anonymousapocalypse247 I agree 💯

After the up in smoke tour this is the best rap concert ever made, Jay-Z the GOAT in his prime + rocafella... That summer jam crowd didn't know they would witness history that day!

'ppreciate this upload...this whole video took me back in time when this happened had NYC in a frenzy. At the same time the sleeping giant was provoked into waking up. #Legendarymomemt
I remember tweeting choke no joke asking did he have this footage brig this is legendary
RUclips needs to stop doing that man it's annoying and disrespectful to the content creators. Thanks for this footage man, I've been looking for this for years. 2001 is the year for both Jay-Z and Nas. Underrated year for Hip-Hop. Ether is still better than Takeover but both diss tracks are classics in my opinion. Nas and Jay-Z are both goats no matter how much fans wanna fight and hate on both because of their beef.
takeover is better than stllmatic freestyle( the record it was answering) and ether( the wack overrated gay rebuttle)
2001 was the year of Jay z period. no nas
@@truthdude8849 always wanna hate and discredit instead of giving both they flowers you proving his points you fans I mean Stans are weird
@@mo2k638 Sadly that how all stans of a specific artist are unfortunately. I am annoyed of it too but it is what it is. Heck Nas stans and even Eminem stans even do the same thing every time Jay-Z is brought up the goat category all because he lost to Nas. I myself prefer Nas but Jay's a legend too. I'm not a huge Jay-Z fan but I will never slander his work all because it's not up there with Nas' because both has classics. Ether is still better than Takeover but both diss tracks are classics in my opinion and I consider both top tier disses I'm not choosing any side. Jay in my opinion is super overrated but I will never hate him for it. That's not me. Nas in my opinion is the more superior artist and I like his disses more than Jay's but both are goats in my opinion. So to me 2001 was the year for both.
Supa ugly was the response to ether and it is better than that shit!
