I was happy to see you suggest vinegar instead of fabric softener. I’ve done this for many years. I’ve always thought fabric softeners were a huge marketing scam. I put the vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser.

Thanks Brittany. I’m happy to say I’m already doing most of these correctly.
I also use the color catchers in every load (except towels).
I’ve used vinegar in the rinse cycle for years and years. Just put it in the fabric softener dispenser. It does NOT leave a smell and it also helps get detergent residue off of your laundry.
The sun also works fantastic on white cutting boards that have become discolored over the years by fruits and veggies. Just lay them outside on a towel or cloth and let the sun do it’s bleaching. It’s amazing. For badly stained ones, I leave them outside for a couple of days. 😊

Fabric softener+dryer sheets are the😈Lol! AND, using LESS detergent will change your life! I’d even recommend using 3/4 less than suggested. I also discovered using warm water, NOT cold (hot for towels etc) works way better because it helps activate the detergent so it can properly do it’s job. Most of the time I don’t have to use vinegar or dryer balls because appropriate amount+activation of the soap not only helps it clean better, but it rinses away instead of clinging to the fabric and holding the dirt hostage (making the clothes stiff). Don’t get me wrong though, I’m still a huge fan of vinegar (especially for fabric softener)! It’s an absolute essential for doing laundry. I’d also recommend keeping some oxygen bleach (not chlorine bleach) on hand. It’s great for certain stains or types of clothing, ie: Athletic wear(stretchy fabric /spandex). This fabric hates water and loves oil (body oil traps bacteria and sweat) so oxygen bleach coupled w/detergent works wonders. It’s also good for juice/wine stains. Now, if I have a ketchup, bbq/condiment stain,..that’s when I’d reach for the vinegar😅

    1. Using too much laundry detergent
    2. Don't use Dryer Sheets & Fabric Softner - Alt. Dryer Balls, Distilled White Vinegar
    3. Washing Laundry on Hot (only for extremely soiled clothes)
    4. Wash new clothes before washing
    5. Letting a stain dry (soak it up) dishwasher
    6. Rub stain vigorously
    7. Sun is the natural bleaching agent
    8. Overstuffing your washer (three quarters)

    10. Not sorting properly
    That's all I noted. 😅

Back in the early 90’s when we were all wearing rayon clothes, my husband did a couple of loads of laundry. Now keep in mind, I have really long legs and my pants can’t be dried or they shrink and are too short and rayon cannot be dried at all. Fast forward to the end of his “help”, all my rayon sleeveless work blouses were shrunk to doll size (no exaggeration on how much they shrunk) and all my jeans were a good 2” to short for me. Mind you, I had DETAILED instructions on the wall over the washer and dryer on how to wash my clothes properly. It was difficult to get “tall” pants back in those days, so I was NOT happy.

I raised 4 girls and I can honestly say I can get about any stain out.I dry my towels sheets etc but I hardly dry anything of mine!! Jeans yes but not all the way. Never suppose to dry bras so I don’t dry any under clothes tank tops active wear most of these items dry so fast & colors stay true longer fabric looks better.. I have raised my kids now & they are raising theirs so I no longer have the laundry monster at my house!!! There are 2 of us & I do a half a load if I have one bc if I see whole loads I still get overwhelmed to this day!!! I’m so happy I don’t have all that massive laundry anymore!!! Good video Brittany!! I use fabric softener only on the new clothes because i have texture issues with new clothes. After that they only get detergent wash along with oxygen bleach. Hang drying clothes goes a long way in terms of longevity of clothes and the sun is a natural sterilizer and bleach on your clothes. One tip if you do hang dry in the sun is hang the whites in front where the sun's rays come and the darks at the back. In India, hang drying clothes has been a long term practice along with hand washing all garments before washing machines came here.

My mother washed almost everything in hot water. Including my brand new pink wool skirt that said to wash in cold water and air dry. After washing it in hot water and drying it on hot--my skirt fit my doll!! Mom never read directions!

I also heard about this before to not use softener but I've learned that rayon fabrics are best washed on cold and even then if I don't use a little bit of softener specifically for rayon it will shrink and shrink over time. I've also heard that hair conditioner can be used on rayon it would have to be a very easy to dilute conditioner with no silicones in it.
I did try once a baby conditioner on a 100% rayon pants it seem to work but you'd have to try for yourself.

When my son was born, now 32! My husband wanted to surprise me having laundry finished before picking us up from the hospital, surprise he truly nailed! He washed some of my cashmere sweaters & put them in the dryer!!😭🤨🤣, they obviously shrunk!! They shrunk enough to fit my youngest daughter that was 2 at the time!! He left some things on the bed that needed folded, underneath the pile lay ( at rest!!), my two cashmere sweaters!! He thought he was really cute!! I called his name, he walks into the room, he knew why he was being called for!! He comes in & says” surprise “!!!

Always cut your color catchers in half, I find they work just as well and you get twice the amount. I do this with sponges too.

❤️I have found that All Free & Clear PODs keep you from using too much detergent‼️❤️ I’ve used wool dryer balls for many years…they’re great! Also swear by the Shout color sheets - yup in every load❣️I can wash a load of everything and no color bleed…magical‼️ yes a bit pricey, but less than ruined clothes🎉🎉🎉 Love your tips…yes, most people think: big loads, hot water, more detergent…ya NO‼️ also…if you want to really ruin clothes - don’t ever read the washing instructions on a piece of clothing, they only put it there so you can cut it off…LOL‼️‼️‼️

You guys are hilarious. I never used color catchers until my "baby" boy started doing laundry! Lord help us. Now I keep a stockpile of carbona color catchers 😂 Funny story, he did a load of his clothes one day and they all came out with a pinkish hue to them. Crazy boy had been using the dryer sheets instead of the color catchers🥺 Thanks for your post. I always look forward to them.

I stopped using fabric softener a couple of years ago, but I still miss the scent fabric softener leaves. I tried adding essential oil to my wool dryer balls but it doesn't seem to work very well.

Same! I just had this conversation with my husband yesterday. I was like I think I’m done being so crunchy. I need scents in my life 😩 then I went through the “at what cost list” and just said never mind I guess I’d rather just be clean and scentless 😒

What about scent beads? It’s not fabric softener. I like the arm and hammer brand and I use a very small amount. My clothes come out scented enough that other ppl compliment the way my laundry smells.

Use lint from dryer as a fire lighter if you have a log burner. Reusable colour catchers can be used for over 30 times. It can then be used as a cleaning cloth.

50 years ago when my two boys were little I neglected to check the pockets of a hoodie. Well, seems one of them spent a long time digging in the garden for fishing worms and storing them in the pocket. A wad of them got washed and created quite a mess. Donna

I love love love your videos. You and Ryan’s chemistry is top notch 😂. I sometimes add a few drops of essential oil to wool dryer balls so I can have a scent. I always wash new clothes especially if brought in store just in case someone else may have tried it on before I purchased it. (May have had perfume, scented lotion, deodorant, or any other irritant to me). The paper towel holder hacks is genius because I usually cannot find a vacuum attachment when I need to use it. (I blame my husband for not putting them in their correct storage areas 😄) . Thank you for sharing these tips Brittany!!!

Another tip if you hate sorting or too much different folding: choose a limited colour palette and type of clothing, that way you only have to sort and fold in certain ways and can systematize it.
