    Really liked the fircomp, the way it tucked in the vocal embedding them in the mix, was beautiful 💯

      @@TheCratesMotel Agreed! They got tons of character, but sometimes they are very overwhelmed with character to suit clean dance music (my opinion), so not everything is working everywhere, but definitely IK is a very tasteful made set of plugins.

    A bit off topic but the SSL Duende bus compressor is very nice, too. I am curious if you've ever tried the Sonoris Master Compressor. It is not an emulation of any hardware but it is a very smooth, polished and sophisticated compressor with very useful options to sculpt the sound.

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  Год назад

      Hey thanks for watching buddy. I did used to use the Duende BC. I vaguely remember demoing or testing the Sonoris, but I would have to check my testing rig. I seem to remember it was very transparent. Simple GUI. They make some great plugins.

    • @dsanj4745
      @dsanj4745 Год назад +1

      @@TheCratesMotel Yes, it is very transparent but provides the option of 'warming' via even-order harmonics. In addition, up to 8x oversampling, feedback or feedforward topology, selectable auto-attack and release, two fully adjustable knees, selectable split mode for independent control of mid & side, and more. I agree, Sonoris makes fine plugins.

    Love your videos. Out of curiosity, as I often use 2db (I’m not a pro). I’ve heard many people mention not doing too much on the mixbus usually 1db is more than enough. You mentioned you like to keep it around there usually. But I guess my question is why do you tend to stick to 1db usually in normal settings. But 2bd on the video because it’s be heard better. Wouldn’t that mean it’s better to hear it more and do 2db of gain reduction. Genuine question, or is it more a case of horses for courses?

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  2 года назад +1

      Hey thanks for watching. I guess there’s not really a definitive answer to that. I generally keep it around 0.5 to 1db of gain reduction on the mix buss because I just want it reeled in a little. A little bit of overall cohesion. I did around 2db on the video purely so the effect could be heard a little better. But yeh, horses for courses is a good attitude. I’ve had 4db of gain reduction on the mix buss before and it sounded great. So it all depends. I always say to my students don’t do anything by default so if somebody says you should never do too much compression on the mix buss, I would disagree. Sometimes it works. Thanks again for watching.

      The UAD one sounds the closest to my original hardware SSL, but yes I like the official SSL version as well. I like them all to be honest. There’s not a best one for me. They all have their place. I don’t think the values not being shown on the UAD version is a huge issue though. I’ve probably mixed over 500 club tracks using the UAD version and it’s never been an issue. But then again I don’t really look at the values in any plugins haha.
