    There is a free ssl g buss comp emulation. It’s called busterSE by Analog Obsession. It also has the side chain filter.

    Huge fan of your stuff. Going back when I heard some of your UBK Happy Funtime Hour questions read. Your videos are so well done. You have a great ability to explain without confusing. It was a big help a few years ago when I was checking out Izotope for the first time. If I could donate man, I totally would. Keep it up. You are definitely one of the few on here who talks honestly, and doesn't have a bias that I see in too many channels. Or withhold content unless someone pays for 50 courses. Much appreciated

    I can't say enough good things about this series. You see a lot of people use these VSTs but they don't explain why they're standard in one way or another. This is absolutely invaluable.

    I normally use the Brainworx Townhouse comp. Technically not a "G" compressor but I do like it. The native SSL (v2) is one of my favorites as well, especially with oversampling turned ON and even the Reason one sounds pretty good, i use it as plugin in another DAW haha. I dont like Waves' consumer-unfriendly business model depite the relatively low price tag, and UAD ties you to their (hardware) eco system (well, not anymore?). The market is pretty well saturated with SSL comps, many flavors and to choose from and many of them sound different only if you A/B them

    That plug in is worth every penny. It’s incredible how clear mixes sound with that. The Waves SSL Bus Compressor is good too, though I’ve noticed that you get quite a bit of harshness with it. I don’t know why though.

    The SSL G is often on my mixbuss, for its lovely Glue. I use the Waves one, so no sidechain capabilities for me on the plugin itself, but I do not really need them where it lives. Needless to say I am absolutely in love with it ❤

I literally cannot tell the difference between a hardware one, and when ive compared the teo: the tim p sounds better ususally. I have friends who have sold their hardware for it, and his other stuff too

    Great work ...just one minor suggestion.. the volume of your voice over (mic) was so much louder than the music examples that I had to constantly adjust the volume to compensate for the differences in sound level if you could balance that out it would be cherries ! Other than that this post was excellent !

    How do you decide how much to side chain out ?

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  2 года назад

      Great question. I stop high-passing when it sounds like enough of the low-end has returned to the body of the audio and the compressor is still gelling everything together nicely and the needle is moving such that we’re reducing 1-3dB of gain. I hope this helps.

    • @crisnla1
      @crisnla1 2 года назад

      @@ManchesterMusic you do the side chain after you’ve dialed in everything else right? As far as threshold ratio attack and release

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  2 года назад

      Typically I’ll dial in the sidechain then compress what’s left with the controls you mentioned. It really depends on the mix/session. No one size fits all.

    • @ManchesterMusic
      @ManchesterMusic  2 года назад

      Typically yes but sometimes the other way around. Always adjusting and listening for what gets me results I’m happiest with.
