Fear is instilled and a tool for manipulation and or domination. True love is unconditional. He abides in me and I in him. What matters when all this is over?? Your doing great 👍. As always keep going WE GOT THIS! ;
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Fear is why we hide the light we have. It's the biggest thing that has kept me from myself--fear of criticism and judgment. I was "socialized" to fear judgment and ridicule and being misunderstood. I think--I hope I am growing out of this fear. I know from my life that fear of being myself is the shortest route to unhappiness and depression. "With the exercise of self-trust, new power shall appear." --Emerson, Self-Reliance.
I remembered this quotation from Self-Reliance as well: "I shall endeavor to nourish my parents, to support my family, to be the chaste husband of one wife--but these relations I must fill after a new and unprecedented way. I appeal from your customs. I must be myself. I cannot break myself any longer for you, or you. If you can love me for what I am, we shall be happier. If you cannot, I will still seek to deserve that you should. I must be myself. I will not hide my tastes or aversions."
@@EremiasRanwolf-d6z I remember reading those lines in “Self-Reliance,” too. Emerson’s words are very relatable, even in this day and age. His ideas are truly timeless. I can relate to the same sentiment, as I, too, have often been afraid to be myself. Let us make a promise to ourselves that from now on we will always respect our own selves and our potential, and not bow down to others at our own expense. I am reminded of the last few lines from Henry David Thoreau’s passage about John Farmer in his essay “Higher Laws” from Walden: “A voice said to him,-Why do you stay here and live this mean moiling life, when a glorious existence is possible for you? Those same stars twinkle over other fields than these.-But how to come out of this condition and actually migrate thither? All that he could think of was to practise some new austerity, to let his mind descend into his body and redeem it, and treat himself with ever increasing respect.” 💐✨
Thank you Lubna.
