  • Thousands of years ago, Pacific navigators first sailed to the Hawaiian Islands by observing the stars, sun, winds, waves and wildlife. Today we celebrate those time-honored traditions with the Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 787, an innovative aircraft that pays tribute to our wayfinding history while setting forth a new path of discovery.

Gotta fix the upgraded resevation system and train the outsourced contract people. Been flying Hawaiian for many years, but this year has been terrible. Seats changed to the back section of the aircraft that separated my son's family from their 2 sons that are 4 and 2 years old. Then charged him upgraded seats which he aldeady paid for. Call 4 times, but only on the 4th call the agent decided to help. Other 3 said the couldn't help or couldn't get a supervisor. This happened on both round trip segments. Excuse equipment change. Funny same type of aircraft with same seat configuration.
Because of this he will not fly Hawaiian again.
As for me, changed my seat from 21C to 60C without notifying me. Good thing I always check.
We visit family every year in Hawaii and like the inflight service. Have relatives and friends that work at or retired from Hawaiian.

As a native of Maui, I am so glad & thankful to have lived through so many years flying Hawaiian Air since the years of propeller-powered DC-3’s & Convairs. These Dreamliners will certainly be dreams come true! Proud that Hawaiian Air worked so hard w/ contracted teams to reflect the ever-present, fragile natural world of our Islands in the cabin design details. I did notice one little detail which I hope Avi M. & Alisha O. on the Hawaiian Air Team will choose to revise. If Hawaiian Air is, in fact, aiming for images of the traditional native experience, the shadows on the cabin walls would be far better off if they were of plants OTHER THAN the invasive Monstera deliciosa. Hawai’i would be better represented by palapalai & laua’e fern, maile, ‘ie’ie, coco palm fronds inside to complement Pualani’s hibiscus blossom on the 787’s tail rudder on the outside. Here’s another idea: When flying Hawaiian Air in the 50’s & 60’s, I remember the graceful Hawaiian Air women employees dressed in mu’umu’u & red carnation lei who greeted us near the luggage claim area & served chilled pineapple juice in Hawaiian Air logo paper cups. Perhaps the HA Dreamliner should resurrect that ground service; it would go perfectly as yet another part of Hawaiian Air’s travel history. Aloha & Mahalo, Hawaiian Air!

Wow - that Hawaiian livery looks fantastic on the 787 (at the very end)! A real head-turner at airports. In the business class seats, it looks like each seat is minus an armrest across from the console where you put stuff (the console looks really nice and wide). I’m not sure about that idea at all. At first I thought the couple had them down, but even the solo seat looks minus an armrest. The color scheme is super nice and very Hawaiian. I expect the service will be the same as on the A330, which is very gracious and relaxed. The food is always good, with an authentic island flavors. I’m a fan of Hawaiian - I don’t expect them to fly the 787 on 5.5 hour West Coast flights (why have lie-flat seats?) but I hope I’m wrong.

There’s no reason to use a 787 to the West Coast, where they fly their A330s, which are great for 5.5 hour flights. 2-2-2 seating is spacious, but a bit exposed. They aren’t competitive with JAL/ANA/Qantas, though. This reverse herringbone mini-cabin definitely is. Plus it has an island vibe. Unless you’re flying from the East Coast, it probably won’t happen. Hawaiian is going to focus these planes on premium routes to the Far East and Australia where they compete with Qantas/JAL/ANA/Korean. No need for a lie-flat mini-suite for 5.5 hours to the West Coast! The A330 is fine for those routes. If you need real 1-2-1 privacy, I think American may still be flying Flagship First from Dallas (that may have gone away during the pandemic).

Probably too difficult to integrate with its domestic system, I guess. I happen to think there’d be a domestic market for real premium economy for families who can’t justify 2 kids and 2 adults in domestic F, but don’t want to be crammed into 17”-wide seats with 30” pitch for a ‘vacation’.
