I was very surprised to the fact that Natsume had experience many tough situations in his childhood but no matter what, he still be kind and gentle to other people. His heart is so pure that he never want to bother other people instead try to help others as much as he can.

Natsume mentioned to Ogata Yuriko that they (all of the people who had tried to take him in up until that point) were all kind, but wherever he went, they always ended up hating him. Both humans, and "them". That bit stood out to me. All his life, Natsume struggled to find a place where he belonged. A safe, comfortable place far away from others, as he told the tree youkai disguised as a cat when he was little. Later, though, when he's talking to Tanuma about plans for the future, he expresses that he never wants to leave his current environment, and that he loves the place he could finally call home. I think three other people who can see youkai serve as good references. Reiko, Natori, and Matoba. Neither of them were able to form good relationships with humans, but they couldn't trust the youkai either. There is a very interesting analysis that someone did of both Natori and Matoba, and their opinions of Natsume in a wonderful Tumblr dedicated to translating the manga chapters that is worth checking out. It all comes to show how precious a soul Natsume really is. He didn't give up trying to form relationships with people, and it helps that the people he's with accept him for who he is. The episodes that show when Nishimura and Kitamoto first met Natsume are good examples. Even the episode where Natsume has to repeat a ritual that Reiko used to drive a youkai out of the Fujiwara's house. Shigeru didn't scold Natsume, he didn't kick him out. I think these relationships that he managed to form were the big turning point for Natsume's character. Even then, I think little Natsume never stopped wishing for a warm place to call home, and people he could love, and be loved by in return. He never gave up, even though he'd once wished he could live somewhere far away all by himself.

I rewatched all the seasons since last week (they're so short !!) This episode was so sad. But, I didn't notice the 1st time, I must admit that the sound that youkai made when it caches Natsume always made me want to laugh...
natsume takashi's childhood past was a very bad one. he have come a long way but i am happy now that he found a place that he can call home. i remember crying when i watch this one episode of natsume where he run away from home and crying. for a kid on that age to have that kind of experience i'm glad that he didn't take it negatively. hooray for the 6th season!!! i'm so happy!!

This scene is so heart breaking, when he remember his father showed the place that his mother plant and his father want it bloom every year then natsume start crying, i cant belive how can natsume go through his live before he meet fujuwaras family, but we know sometime natsume meet good yokai and help him, it just that time he still small and of course he feel scared when he see all those yokai, poor natsume

I think the idea is, Natsume who has been hiding his true feelings since he can remember, finally have someone (or something) he can feel at ease enough to finally let out his bottled emotions... Nyanko sensei being there for him is already more than enough ❤️
He is actually crying....after his feelings wash over him as he comes at his late parents house for the last time.....still hides his face as he doesnt want others to see his true emotions.... For the people who have watched it, this picture holds a great and heartbreaking meaning...
In this particular scene he was crying and on other times during night time; nyanko sensei gets drunk so that answers why Natsume won't want to use sensei as the pillow.
