Im getting a crestie in like 2 weeks and thought i knew nearly everything cause I’ve been doing research since September but this helped so much still! Never knew Ikea did “hydroballs” but their so much cheaper so glad i didn’t buy any for £14 Edit- Got the crestie 🥰
name him toaster strudels well maybe not that my creasted geckos name but it a fun one at frist it was gonna to be teostra but I said toaster and then I got the idea for toaster strudels

Some plants emanate toxic fumes (made worse by the fact it's an enclosed and warm space), some have toxic sap and the gecko jumping around damages the plant and lets sap leek out (dumbcane/Dieffenbachia/philodendrons/ficuses/aloes for instance).

To whoever else is following this tutorial I have one tip - DON'T wash your LECO/Hydroponic/Clay Balls in your sink. I think the clay dust will clog up your pipes leaving you guys with an expensive bill...Learned this from my plant groups online!

Snap! I set up two very similar enclosures for my loopy juvies and yep... one has nearly destroyed all the plants, and, I think all the isopods have been munched... Prob need to redo the enclosures or help out the suffering plants somewhat, somehow! I never thought to use the gardening wire for the vines, great tip! I kinda added to the vines by using vivarium safe silicone on natural/organic rope and twisted it around them before dunking in dry substrate, worked a treat and they are very, very random. Thank you for this video, confirmed that I did it almost right! ;)
Random comment: hydroton is basically used by everyone in Scandinavian as a drainage layer when potting up outdoor plants, and widely manufactured locally many places. I'm not surprised to see them having it at IKEA. (Odla = to cultivate/grow [crops])

this is best tutorial for terarium ive seen yet so far, lot of infos, i just wonder how are you feeding them? because i feed in way i put insects into terarium so the gecko have to hunt himself, and in this kind of setup makes it very difficult

I know this isn't the answer you were looking for but check Josh's frogs out. You can select plants for pets>crested gecko and he has a huge I mean HUGE selection of plants. Maybe you'll see one or a few of the ones he used. I'll be ordering some from them within the next few days because I'm building my first crested setup, yay! A lot of their stuff is sold out right now, not just plants but across the board. I think most shops are having some issues with suppliers atm. Anywho. Hope this helps.

Tank you for the tutorial! I want to change my geckos enclosure to live plants with soil and isopods and spring tails to help with the clean up. What type of plants can you put in the enclosure? My room doesn't get a lot of light so I would want to pick sturdy low light plant, but I don't want to put something harmful for my gecko.
I think they should be Pingu and Morph. If you know who Pingu is then you should know morph 😜 Loved the builds! And now I need to get a dracaenia for my terrariums! That spray bottle making those noises tho! I nearly choked on my breakfast cos it caught me by surprise and I laughed 😂😂 Great vid yet again! 💜

Is there another janitor bug that you can use instead of springtails? My only fear is that the springtails might get out of the tank as I've had non reptile related springtail infestation issues before
Im thinking of getting a crestie but I’m trying to do a lot of research before jumping in. A vivarium set up seems like a really good idea. Why do you still have to pick out the feces? I’ve seen some other youtubers say you have to wait for the plants and insects to settle in the enclosure for a few weeks before introducing the geckos- do you feel like it’s a necessary step? What happens when you want to switch to a bigger cage- do you reuse all of the hydroballs and substrate when you switch to a new cage? Also what do you use to clean the glass/disinfect cage decor? Sorry lots of questions!
When I rinsed my clay I got one of my big car wash buckets and just dumped it all in there and gave it a good swish, dumped the water, did it again. Not sure if this is any more time efficient though. You wouldn't believe the gunk that settled on the bottom though. The entire bottom was covered in little grains and sludge

You should get a grow light with different brightness settings, they’re pretty cheap

I bought them at a local reptile expo and bred them for my own use after :).

You need to wait about a month before you put your geckos in

Drainage layers prevent water from building up and creating soggy mushy substrate. Quite necessary if you have plants that are going to be watered.
If it's bio active you don't need to clean it. If it isn't then you will.

Will this bioactive setup work for certain tarantulas?
ChaoticOcelot absolutely! Especially an arboreal tropical! You can modify it for any species though!
