I really loved Mega Evolution. But I never really warmed up to Z moves and Gigantamaxing was just plain weird (though at least the phenomenon had more or less a reasonable explanation for happening).

I totally agree. I liked Megas because the new forms are so cool (unlike Z moves where the Pokémon stays the same) and theoretically, you could travel to different regions and still access the Mega Evolution (unlike Dynamax).
Keep gigantamax for outdoor 4 player coop content only, bring back megas and z moves but nerf the damage that some of those z moves did

Facts dude, and so should Z-moves. Also I have hopes that at least one day GameFreak will make at least one more game that has the national dex in it, I’m not one of those guys screaming at the top of my lungs for it. But it would be nice to have that and all the gimmicks in one game, I know it’d be a lot to put in but we’d eat that up for years to come.
What if they weren't scrapped ideas? What if Scarlet and Violet started development near the end of Sword and Shield and that's what was leaked?

@@macarthius I think you’ve miss understood me cause it sounds like we’ve meant the same thing 😂. I meant they be able to change between which to use (outside of battle) then you’d only be able to use that type of gimmick until you’ve changed it again. If that makes more sense?

I'm not surprised by Pawmi looking like a long lost Beta Pokemon, Game Freak probably has a lot of those and might be willing to dip into that pool if they're drawing a blank designing new Pokemon. For example, the Gen V fossil pokemon Tirtouga bares an uncanny resemblance to a turtle pokemon that was considered for Gen II.
Now this is the news I wanted on my way to work! I'm still convinced that megas only got cut because they ran out of time to adapt them into the new engine....much like they ran out of time for the full Pokedex
i do not expect them to be ambitious enough to add z moves and mega and gigantamax. frankly we are far more likely to get 1 new mechanic that will last for just this gen then be abandoned like they always are.
Really need mega evolution to come back, hopefully the catch and battle mechanics are also identical to legends Arceus I don’t think I can go back to the tradition way it was before. I wouldn’t mind if gmax and smokes came back it’d actually make sense with where the Pokémon anime is right now though I don’t wanna spoil for those that don’t know

@@AlejandroRodriguez-cy8ee Personally, I think it's best to leave the mainline catching mechanics the same as before, I feel that making it like PLA would take away from one of the main aspects that made the game special/stand out amongst others, in a way it's kinda like the phrase "it's better to be the head of a dog than the tail of a lion"
I've noticed that we are getting a lot of things people have been wanting. We're getting an open world, that open world is now explorable at your own will, walking pokemon, customizable player character (Yes I know they've been doing this of late but it still counts to me). Maybe they're giving us everything we've been asking for since the last mainline game a lot of people did not really enjoy. (Gen8 SW&SH) The rival we have has an interesting arm piece she wears, and maybe that could tie into the older mechanics and we could customize what we use. We could apply a megastone to the gauntlet and use megas, we could apply a Z move to it and have the ability to use those. And the same can be said about Gmax. Maybe this game could implement that style of play since its a very big step in a direction that can make lot of people happy about the franchise again.
They need to make every new game to allow all previous pokemons to be transferred in. This limitations of pokemons are really losing my interest.
In my opinion, the idea of Older Game Features like Mega and Z-Moves in Gen9 seems pretty high possibility. Lots of hype of them all mixed together in the newest Pokémon Journeys Anime releases. The Hype of thoes returning in the animes and them also having a Legends Arceus Specials leads me to believe this.
It's like Gen9 is going to include features that is going to make gameplay an extremely unique experience for every player. 🥰
If they wanted to keep true to their stories then Gmax would need Eternatus to be in the new region and the anime keeps to this as well as pokemon masters. Megas and Z-Moves however were shown in the anime and such to work in other regions too so i can see them returning. It's possible they didn't want Max moves and Z moves in the same game being relatively similar as they are.
Then again they totally retconned XY lore when they introduced ORAS though I think the change from Eternatus would be a worse ret con. (different discovery date and source for Mega-however since it's not directly sourced to a single Pokémon, the Mega controversy at least leaves room for imperfect narrator and how different cultures have different lore for the same thing like how so many cultures have dragons)
Eternatus retcon to allow dynamax would be worse imo because it completely negates the plot of SwSh and gives us nothing unique to Eternatus as a legendary.
Mega evolutions were the best gimmick
You gotta wonder what went through Game Freak’s head when they were coming up with ideas if a new gimmick for Scarlet and Violet. Like where do they go from megas, z-moves, dynamaxing, and the agile/strong style fighting moves?
When Riddler Khu mentioned 3, my first thought was all 3 gimmicks in SV, Z-Moves, Megas and Gmax
I'll be very cautiously optimistic about this, as I ALMOST want the game to have Megas, Z-Moves, AND a tweaked form of Dynamax in SV more than the entire national Dex. Like, we KNOW the latter won't be there at launch, but...DLC could always fix that later. I can’t see DLC outright giving us the other 3 mechanics though, so...
There was a photo of a Dratini fountain that leaked before Gen 7 (Alola) that is featured in the first trailer for Gen 9.
i think its safe to assume they took out mega evolution from sword and shield because dynamax with mega evolution was WAAAAAAAAY to overpowered
i'd love megas and z-moves back but i honestly don't know how you bring back dynamax cause im pretty sure galar is the only region with that energy
I could see Game Freak turning the gmax forms into mega forms. The pokemon have the ability to naturally evolve when dynamaxing, but what if the mega stones actually are somehow tied to the dynamax phenomenon which would allow them to mega evolve into their gmax forms?

Gmax can't be in this new region the whole Gmax phenomenon is supposed to be galar exclusive but megas I think is more likely to be in s/v cause it was first discovered in kalos but it was in hoenn, kanto and alola aswell so it's been proven it's not specific to 1 region
GMAX is inevitable. I mean maybe there was multiple Eternatus clones or servants of Eternatus sent off to different regions. The games are open world after all and seeing a den may not be surprising. I mean maybe it could tie in with the future/past mechanic

Fair enough, i mean they could do they eternatus clone idea and have the evil team try to make a "darkest day" happen in whatever this new region is gonna be called XD so then the giovanni of the new evil team could have eternatus as their ace and they'd use it in the final battle against them unless they're going to have the evil team leader be the final gym leader like gio was in gen 1 then final non gym battle XD
@@jockson7574 it would also completely negate the plot of SwSh since Rose's whole conflict was centered around running out of dynamax power. Suddenly another region having that power without an issue would be worse than ORAS stealing the lore from the Tower of Mastery in XY

I don't fuck with Megas, Z-Moves, or Dynamax, but I do appreciate the designs. Anyway, I do want to add an objective fact that show they are still interested in Megas. Megas exist within side games, such as GO, Picross, Rumble World, Shuffle, and Mystery Dungeon, the last one of which has a game in gen 8 (even if it's a remake, that is not a factor). Even if these aren't the mainline, they were definitely taken into account as a popularly received concept. It would make sense to me if they want to bring it back, even though I hate it mechanically.
Interesting that they might bring back GMax and Megas in the same game, because Pokémon Journeys had a bad ass episode of a GMax Pokémon fighting a Mega in a league battle.
I feel like SV will end up being the "perfect" pokemon game we all want with most of the features we all want and have been asking for

Gen 8 had a lil about innovation vs tradition like destruction of the big mural to find wishing stars to give us power for the future heck even roses ideals are about innovating for the future where as Leon's is to let us live as we do and swordward/sheildward have the idea that because of tradition they should be incharge
Mega evolution was the best concept, but the designs are mostly horrendous.
Z-moves are okay, but not a fan.
G-max is terrible and I don't enjoy it in the slightest. It's lazy and unbalanced.
Since the anime uses all three (mega, z-moves, and Dynamax/gigantamax). it's possible for the new game to consist of all three
Okay so hear me out. Since we have a hint about completely new battle system which could possibly ruin the current competetive format, and since two versions are supposed to be split between tradition and innovation I had a crazy thought. What if the default battle system would differ based on which version are you playing? You still have both systems programmed into both games because multiplayer, but if you fight an NPC trainer in Scarlet fights will look like they always did, and if you fight them in Violet it will use the new system. It would be an interesting idea and not only would it bring additional degree of separation between the versions that wouldn't feel like it was only to sell you same game twice, and a way to satisfy both the Players who want to keep current battle system, and the ones that want a new, more dynamic one. It's just a theory but that for sure would be interesting idea.
you know they could also do? Different repeat gimmick for each version - so idk Scarlet gets Z moves and Violet gets Megas or something like that where you'd fight different NPCs during a plot point or post game (similar to how you could battle Red or Blue in Alola but you get either Hau or Tierno)
battle system will stay the same if they change it so many vgc players will rage
Maybe the post game will have tournaments where you can only use certain past gimmicks (like Pokémon Showdown)
That giant glove thing nomona wears could be used to use all the previous battle gimmicks. So it’s possible.

I mean, even in the anime they teased it, in the League their allowed to use Z moves, Mega Evolutions and even Dynamax, so I’m positive that we will see all of them returning in Scarlet and Violet, obviously you wouldn’t be able to use one of each ability in a single match, you’d have to set up the specific Pokémon that you want to use the ability on when your creating your team. It will probably be limited to one special ability per match for only 1 Pokemon.. but anyways having the ability to choose what ability you want to use sounds pretty good. :)
Would love megas, g-max and z moves all in the same world. Just make function similar to rock, paper, scissors game where one function damages or resists the other functions.
I remember in 2017 them mentioning that the legends were dragons and one was a snake dragon which describes miridon.
Im ready for a generation that includes the entire National Dex and all of the gimmicks. I know, I know, such a tired opinion at this point. Most people concede it will never happen. But I feel like after Sw/Sh and PLA, we're actually on the right track. I dont think Gen 9 is gonna be that game, but im quite hopeful for that development by the time Gen 10 hits in 2025.
In my opinion, Sada and Turo are not professors. Their names do not come from plants, as with other professors - even the one from Pokemon GO is named after willow. There were never 2 professors. Also on tt's post asking only wrong answers about who they are- the official Pokemon profile wrote that they are professors, which is even more puzzling. To me, they look more like leaders of antagonistic organizations like Aqua and Magma used to be.

Introduce 50+ new megas to add to the old ones, gmax forms, and z-crystals. Toss that all in the post-game. Leave them all to be earnable with points that can be acquired via both a battle frontier and an online battling mode.
Btw Blaines, you said z-moves dont change form. Ultra necrosma needs the z-crystal to change form. I hope they add atleast that one back
I would like for them to rework gmax. Could be something about gmaxs actually being megas and the power from galar was making them large and essentially forcing them to go mega.
Zmoves not announced but if you move your joycons in the way the zmove is produced you'll be able to use it

Honestly, I‘d love if they assemble some high level competitive Players, let them help with balancing Z-moves, Giganta/Dynamax and Mega evolutions, and then implement all of them.

Yo blaines I have some info I think you'd find interesting. I have a box of Shiny mews in bdsp that I cloned back in 1.1.1 and forgot about. Then I updated my game and realized all my cloned pokemom aren't usable, except my mews are still tradeable because they came from pokemon go. This leads me to believe any pokemon you clone in bdsp that originally came from pokemon go can still be traded online even after the most recent update
Something about the pokemon being originally from pokemon go seems to get around the update and let's you trade cloned versions of it
Id love to see them ALL IN ONE GAME! LIKE THE NEW ANIME ASH USES THEM ALL!! Is that a hint?!?!? I think the z moves with the joy cons would be amazing because ud have to do the move correctly or the z move failed! The hunt and search for z crystals and the mega stones would be a nice side quest!
Theoretically, Scarlet and Violet have been in production since ~2016, given the Pokemon Company's time frame for releases. It might not even have been scrapped gen 8 ideas, but formative gen 9 pitches.

There is a misconception here. So the thing is Pokémon games have a Development time frame that's closer to 6 years than it is 3 years. Now that they are on consoles the Development time tables are longer now. It's not that the ideas were "scrapped". The person who leaked the info was already working on Scarlett and Violet all the way back in 2017. 1 year out from release the assets are already developed so they can't be scrapped at that point.
I hope for starter pokemon they will give us fire / dragon , water / fairy , grass / steel one day
Ya know it makes sense if they include gmax and megas. Spoiler: They played both up heavily in the most recent season of master journeys which just dropped. And they did mention zmoves but said ash chose mega instead. Honestly tho id lile to see all 3. Just include them and allow only 1 to be used per match. Allowing the battles to be more dynamic, esp if they have the strong and light attacks from arceus return it would add so much to team building and strategy.
Variantforms, one more primeval, one more “evolved” would be cool. Like the legendaries, but for starters and returning/new faves maybe

I've always wanted a Pokken fighting style in the main series ever since I saw the game. The way they depict pokemon battles in the anime REALLY needs to be in the main series games; everyone would love it SO much more. If not, I guess they could let us have a choice between traditional Pokemon video game battling or Pokken style battling at the very least.
Yeah, because the lazy developers of Pokemon games, who even after nearly 3 decades of developing still haven't properly animated Double Kick, are going to make unique fighting animations and combinations for over 900 Pokemon.
I don't think they would even do it for 100.

I'm just saying z moves could fit in quite well. Imagine having a normal pokemon team but with multiple endgame levels. The first one is z moves where your pokemon start to pull away from the rest, then dynamax/ mega/ whatever else where they all lie in a continuous increase. They would have to say mega is for sure stronger than dynamax (as an example) but these different forms/ moves can allhave a place.
I’m liking what is happening with Pokémon recently. Legends Arceus although far from perfect, has been a step in the right direction imo. Gen 9 being open world and having an evolved battle system is definitely needed for what is an almost 3 decade old franchise. The game to game gimmicks have been okay, but that’s all they were: gimmicks, left to be forgotten by GameFreak in the following game. Switching up gameplay is far more interesting and that’s what we’ve been getting so far. Looking forward to what else gen 9 has in store

For the Masters 8 coming in the anime, GMax, Mega, and Z moves are all allowed. Trainer is only allowed to use one gimmick per battle.
The hardest part of so many changes at once would be to balancing the VGC portion of the game. Adding all the gimmicks and a hybrid of Gen 8 and PLA is quite the undertaking.
I’m all about fresh and new. As Blaines stated, some things do get scrapped in the final year of development for Pokémon games.
I am excited to see the final product. I think the reception to PLA made the Pokémon Company a little less afraid to change the formula. I hope they hit it out of the park.
Gmax cannot really come back as it is only in galar due to eternatus and the power-spots. Megas fell from space so they can br used in any location. Z moves is most likely only alola only though could be imported over in a way dynamax cannot.
So essentially these leaks might have been legit but they just held off on using them for another generation

One wish I hope for scarlet and violet is they bring back competitive gameplay. Reason why the they had a 5 minute timer in BdSp and there was no online battles in legends arceus witch made the game less fun imo.

I really want megas back, imo Z moves were inferior to megas, and Dyna/gmax was inferior to z moves. I couldn't shake the feeling even now that they saw how popular GO was in 2016 and decided the raid battle concept in GO was good to put into the main series. Perhaps they only added a few designs as the special gmax just to make sure we weren't immediately disappointed in the uncreative idea.
I'm already more hopeful for SV than SwSh, especially if the motorcycle stuff comes true in a fun way.
Personally I would prefer they bring back old gimmicks instead of making new ones for these games. They can make new ones with the next games after Scarlet and Violet but I kind of miss the old ones especially Mega Evolution!
I don't think they should bring back the old gimmicks because nobody will use the newer gimmick, newer pokemons, or old pokemons in the competitive scene because they'll rely too much on pokemons that can mega evolve.
