Colorado and Toronto for sure. Everyone has been talking about how good they are supposed to be for years and you have to think that the door is going to begin to close for them at some point. Vegas too except I think the fact that they are a newer franchise lowers the expectation a bit. The Bruins have managed to stay competitive for quite a long time now, makes you wonder how long they can keep that up.

The thing is...if the Rangers get to the playoffs, the moves made this offseason are of the kind that a team that wants to improve their playoff performance would make.
This year's Metro is really hard to predict. All of the top teams except *maybe* the Islanders look worse, while the Flyers and Devils look to get better. The Rangers could finish anywhere from first to sixth and it wouldn't surprise me much. (Well, maybe first and sixth.)

    • @Kinvarus1
      @Kinvarus1 3 года назад

@@ronaldwayne7092 This is true, my concern with the Rangers is that despite the moves they've made, the one thing that has plagued this team for years is their lack of consistancy. They can play great one game and then play the worst hockey ever the next. Like how last season they could beat the flyers 6-0 then lose 6-2 to the Sens the following night. That or their new bad habit the last few season of not playing good hockey until about halfway through the season when it's too late to catch up. They can make all the roster moves they want but if they don't fix those, it won't matter.

I don’t know where the Caps should be, but their spot seems a bit high. They got their one Cup after a cap crunch where they weren’t really expected to win, and now they just gave a 36 year old a 5 year contract at $9.5m on the cap. With the age of the roster, I think the Caps know what they are, and now it’s just the traveling Ovechkin goal scoring tour. If they happen to win again, great, but it might be more about chasing a record than winning in Washington.

Always a good watch. While the statement that 1 of the 32 teams will win the Cup in 2022 is highly questionable and unlikely, I think Leafs has the most pressure to at least reach the finals. Avs, Vgs and Edm close behind. I think Dubas is done if Leafs can't get out of the first round and I think McDavid is done in Edm by 22/23 for the same reasons.
After predicting deep runs for the past two years, I think Pens and Caps are done as contenders. The big players on respective teams are starting to get too old. For me TB winning a 3rd is on the same level as NJ, Ott, Sea and Mtl getting into play-offs - would be fun if they did but unlikely.

One thing that stands out to me on #1-8 is how many of those teams took a step back in goal (in my opinion). I can't remember seeing a Vezina winner (Vasy should have won by the way) and a finalist moving teams like that during one off-season. Colorado (can't believe they did not get Grubauer signed), Vegas (will Lehner stay healthy and withstand the pressure, not so sure), Boston (will Ullmark stay healthy and on his game for a full season, I have my doubts), Carolina (goal was a strength last year, not so much now). On the flip side, my gut is telling me Mrazek is going to thrive in Toronto.

Colorado for sure has the most pressure. MacKinnon was pretty peeved at the early exit, and with Landeskog finally re-signing keeps that pressure & expectation for this year. Joe has put together a good team, it’s now time for them to show us they are great.
The 3 teams I am a fan of are all in the same division! Unlikely all 3 make the playoffs but feel that their pressure/expectations are:
Chicago: Qualify with the trades made
    Colorado: Stanley Cup Champions
    Winnipeg: Conference Finals
Still I’d hate to feel the pressure in Toronto. After watching Steve Dangle, the 2nd round drought for Toronto no longer amuses me.

The definition of what constitutes a dynasty in sports should be a franchise that wins championships with different players in different eras: The Canadiens from the '40s to the '70s, the Celtics and Lakers from the '50s to the '80s, the Yankees from the 1920s to the '60s. Some might call the New England Patriots a dynasty; I would not because the 6 titles were all with the same quarterback.

I mean I think wether dman contracts stay up or go down is going to depend greatly on how all these guys with mega contracts do. If a big chunk of them have down years it's likely to go back down. I mean couple years ago the predicitions were Krug was going to get 8 and Pieterangelo 10. And that ended up being couple m too high post lockout. This year you had the biggest guys get stupid money. If those guys blunder I think a lot of teams are going to look at Krug, and Pieternagelo and go..That's probably more in line. I can't see a scenario where in a situation where the cap doesn't grow and you have all these teams with expensive dmen they got in free agency or traded for are going to be in a scenario to pay Rielly a lot. He made made Krug money and got 6.5 I think he should probably be pretty happy with that.

Personally, (biased) I believe Toronto has the highest pressure out of all the teams. Original 6 team, hasnt won a cup; let alone made a SCF since 1967 and they have not been passed the first round since 2004. Add to that the way management has payed the players and constructed the roster, a lot of people want to see them crash and burn.
Dubas must be waking up every morning just drenched in sweat because it is only a matter of time before the leafs have lost for the last time with this group and he will most likely be the guy shown the door. I feel the pressure is almost insurmountable at this stage. The closer they get the more pressure with be there, until they either win the cup or they blow the team up.
Also the media is so toxic, one minute they are pumping the teams tires and the next dropping bombs. How can you compete with a media like that. It will never change. nothing will ever be enough. Its always Stanley cup or they arent good enough, they havent done enough, the players arent tough enough!

Top 3 definitely could go in any order, but I feel Toronto fans are more ravenous and them being arguably the best Canadian team on paper, and their playoff failures, it's putting way more pressure on them to negate the failures with a win. Vegas makes sense, they went to the Finals year 1, so they need to get back there. Colorado's biggest ? for me is their goaltending, so I can't look at their net situation and be like "Yeah Cup winners" there just yet.
Edmonton with McDavid's ongoing frustration with little playoff success and wasting his prime years is concerning to Edmonton I'd say. Boston's core getting older, but expectations aren't as high with Krejci leaving, questions with Rask in net, and pretty weak defensive depth.
I'd definitely rank Florida higher than where THG has them because Barkov's contract expires at the end of the 2023 season, and Huberdeau's the 2024 season, and those guys are gonna get a big raise from what they're currently at. Also Weegar should get a bump too if he plays like he did last year. These raises could very well cripple how well they can ice a team so to get the Cup before then is huge. Plus with all of Tampa's success, they could be stealing some fans in Florida.
Carolina's on paper regressions in their lineup lowers my expectations of them. I could see them going on a run and winning a Cup, but if it's doesn't happen, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Same with the Islanders, surely their trappy style can't work forever as their team infrastructure changes.
I don't see Pittsburgh or Washington as in need of a cup win as much because Pittsburgh won two relatively recently and Washington won a few years ago so it's not as urgent.
I'd say Winnipeg just because Hellebuyck is one of the best goaltenders in the league and he's getting older and their core of good players is getting older too. They need to strike soon or they'll end up selling at the deadline.

From a franchise perspective also, the fans are going loopy from years or decades of terrible management decision after terrible decision, 2006 excepted. If there’s no cup / finals within about 3 years, there could be a riot.
