Wow!! Thanks so much for that naaathaaan…you made my day!! 😎 Truly appreciate the kind words, and thanks so much for stopping in to the channel and sharing! 🎸👍
A hundred years ago, well maybe almost 50, a mall music store had a used Fender Mustang that had been modified with DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups. It played like a dream. I should have made it mine, but didn't have the $$ at the time.
Hey BB_LZ…. Yeah, unfortunately I think all players have a “tale” of the “one the got away”…sorry man! The good news is that these days, you can get yourself a very nice short scale single coil for a lot less $$ then back then. Truly appreciate your stopping in to the channel and sharing. I am sure there is another one out there somewhere and someday with your name on it! 🎸👍
Thanks so very much Russ…truly appreciate your stopping in to the channel! Sometimes adding a new or different guitar becomes very inspirational, which is not a bad thing…😎. Keep pickin’ my friend…🎸👍
Thanks so much for watching and commenting John! I have said a number of times that the IYV Mustang Hybrid is a overlooked little gem. I string it just like the majority of my guitars with D’Addario 9’s…plays great! Always appreciate your stopping in to the channel! 🎸👍
I'm glad I caught this. I played a friend's Ibanez singlecut some years back and I remember the frets being so close together I really had to readjust mu playing but I never did figure out the scale length I wish I would have measured it. It honestly sounded really good. But it wasn't hard to bend strings up to 3 steps out.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting Chuck…changing from different scale lengths and neck radius is a good thing to be able to do. Too many guitarists today are “stuck” to having to have a particular scale length…this fretboard is to flat, this neck is to thin, to thick, ect…ect… branching out gives you tons of options and more versatility in your playing and tone! Appreciate your stopping in to the channel! 🎸👍
Outstanding Chris!! Congrats and enjoy it! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Truly appreciate your stopping in to the channel and sharing! I love my Contemporary Jag as well….keep pickin’ 🎸👍
I can't call myself a guitarist yet, but I'm inclined to agree with you, even though I don't have one yet. Maybe a build project will be how I get one. I have an extra Gretch neck single coil that would be perfect. I love listening to you play. Thanks for thinking out loud to us. I like the personal opinion stuff.
Thanks so much Troy…really appreciate the kind comments. Truly appreciate your stopping in to the channel and sharing your thoughts. If you are making noise on your guitar, your a guitarist 😎 Keep pickin’!! 🎸👍
BTW, my bet is that IYV probably gave their Mustang “hybrid” a generic JM/Jag-style floating tremolo instead of a Mustang-style tremolo because it was cheaper for them to use an off-the-shelf part instead of designing and fabricating a special one just for this model. Probably the same reason their Mosrite clone has a Bigsby-type tremolo instead of a proper Mosrite-style unit.
“Ask the Chief?” Is there any way to incorporate the phase switching on the IYV Mustang copy? Would it be worth the time, effort and expense? I don’t think I’ve ever heard a guitar with phase switching. Maybe a video on that subject? If so maybe a how-to video? Got’ta say that I, and I’m sure I speak for a lot of folks looking at the number of subscribers, really look forward to every episode. I often find myself viewing old episodes again and again. Cool Steely Dan fife you’re playing. Keep ‘em comin’!
Hi mjvicc1952…yes, there are certainly ways to incorporate phasing into the IYV. You of course would have to rewire, and replace the two way switching with 3 way switching. The switch cavity would have to be routed a bit to fit the 3-way switches (they are a bit larger) or you may be able to go with push/pull controls, but same routing needed in the control cavity for fitting the larger controls. Cost…probably around $100 for the wiring/switches/controls and DIY…considerably more taking it to a tech. Listen to the Brian May in this and my other videos of the IYV BM clone as all the pickups can be phased in/out. In my opinion, the IYV Mustang is perfectly fine “without” the phase switching, but yes, it can be done. If I ever decide it needs it, I will be sure to film it…😎 Thanks so much for watching and commenting…much appreciated! 🎸👍
Yes, it is a strong term and I unequivocally stand by it! 🤣 Truly appreciate your stopping in to the channel and sharing your thoughts! Deep down I know you agree…😎
The IYV BM clone is a great guitar! Both versions IYV made had the phase switching, the difference’s were the “zero” fret, fretboard markings and scale. The Thomann version was made by IYV also…thanks for stopping in Mike. Much appreciated! 🎸👍
FACT: John Lennon played his banjo chords on the upper 4 strings of a Rickenbacker 325 in the early years of The Beatles on songs like “All My Loving” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” The Rickenbacker 325 had a 20.75” (!!!) scale, even shorter than any of these 24” beauties. The Rickenbacker is a bit difficult for people with long fingers to play. On the other hand, it no doubt allows all kinds of chord formations that would be a real stretch on a normal guitar. I notice IYV doesn’t seem to sell their IRK-300 Rickenbacker clone anymore, either. I don’t remember if it was a 325 copy or not. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rickenbacker threatened IYV over them, too.
Oh yeah…John using those banjo chords was unique and his sound with the Rick was crucial to the early Beatles sound for sure. I was hoping to grab a Ric clone from IYV and still hope to! They are trying to get Amazon to pick up their model…I think you can still order it direct from them, however the shipping cost is much more costly! Not sure what the scale is on it however. I need to talk to Inyen Bina and get the correct scoop on it! Thanks so much for stopping in to the channel PG…much appreciated! 🎸👍
@@JimmyStewart1 If I remember correctly, the IRK-300 was a more Gibson-like scale length at 24.75”. Just the same, I bet it would come very close to the early Beatles sound, especially paired with a Vox AC30. The later Beatles sound was of course Epiphone Casinos played through Fender amps. I don’t think IYV has a clone of the Casino, only the 335.
@@zuperdee Yeah, that seems right! You are correct on the “later” Beatles sound…John played that Casino throughout a lot of the later Beatles recordings. My Grote has more of the Casino sound actually with the single P90 in it….tis the reason I have that particular guitar 😎
@@JimmyStewart1 Ah yes, that makes sense! Actually, I think your Grote is probably actually closer to an ES-125, like what my high school English teacher had. Looking at it again, I think the IYV IRK-300 is closer to a Rickenbacker 330 than a 325, and they do sound similar. I also forgot that IYV does still make the IVB-500 Hofner Beatle Bass clone, of course.
Hello Jimmy - have you tested the Glarry copy of the Classic Vibe Mustang hybrid? I can get one for $93 delivered. I have the IYV 200 VW and I love it.
Hi J.R. Gaines…I have not reviewed or played any Glarry products at this point. I have looked at a few, but have no personal experience with them. I have heard both pros and cons of course. I have not seen their Mustang clone. I have both the Classic Vibe Mustang, and the IYV Mustang and enjoy them both. How does the Glarry differ from the IYV?
@@JimmyStewart1 I have not received the Glarry yet. I was waiting on your review before I pulled the trigger. Fo the price I may buy it anyway. I think I can re-sell it for close to full price if its not comparable to the IYV.
@@j.r.gaines7890 I just looked it up on the Glarry web site. It appears to be a very close match up to the IYV with basically the same attributes. 24” scale, two single coils with vibrato and two colors, black/white. Just be aware out of the 6 or 7 reviews I read, many stated neck would need shimming to get it playable. Not a big deal, but just be aware. Others stated frets were not dressed, or had “sprout” (again a easy fix). The control switching on this is the same as the IYV…simply on/off on the pickups with no phasing like on the Classic Vibe. Also, I have no idea what Glarry uses for pickups. I do know that IYV builds their own, and they are very good and use Alnico magnets in all their CNC Wound pickups. It seems to me, that the Glarry is not going to give you anything that you don’t already have with your IYV unless you are simply looking for another short scale for modding, or backup outside of color.
@@JimmyStewart1 I saw the reviews which said that the humbucker version was 'unplayable' out of the box and needed neck shims and a trim job on the frets. I am up for that - but maybe not on the upscale version?
@@j.r.gaines7890 Yeah, again it’s hard for me to give any advice or recommendations as it’s all based on others opinions and not my own personal experience. Like you say, it’s not a big expense to give it a shot. The reviews I was reading were not for the “humbucker” equipped guitar, they were for the single coil, which looked very much like the IYV 200 VW except they had black and white for colors. I think they were $99 on their web site.
Hey there carpathus…appreciate your watching and commenting. I understand that some headstock ascetics are hit and miss with many players…it’s a “love/hate” relationship 😎 Myself, I don’t get overly concerned on headstock design as long as it’s functional and relatively balanced.
