Great start to the Bull Red Run in Corpus. What is your favorite bait, rods and reels for Bull Reds? Do you use mullet and crab? Do you use an Ugly Stik w/ a Penn 209 or a Harrington 552 with a Penn 113HLW? Thanks for watching!
Jack'em up!
You already know! 💪
Good job guys, nice fish. Lots of fun.
And there’s that green rod again. I need to borrow it one afternoon, because “it always catches fish “. It knows how
Leaders, big and long made with the best materials. I make those larger ones out of .90 smooth weed eater line. 5.0 circle hooks. No need for gaff or net. If she’s hooked good, a couple wraps around the hand and pull her out of there
Rods:
Couple 8’s,2-9’s,3-10’s and 1-13
Reels, and assortment. Two many to list. After being a fishing guide for over 55 years, CEO of major fishing tournaments for over 20 years, you collect a lot of tackle
Bay fishing. My brother asked how many while back. In the office and on the wall with out open closets or going to the boats. I stopped at 65
Lots of time on water, tournaments, boats. You collect tackle. Old school collects things
And we have not talked about hunting yet, that’s another story
Be quiet Larry, you talk a lot, yep I know
I remember in one of the videos you asked where the green rod was, well there it is lol! Yes sir, those 6' and 7' 400lb leaders make it easy landing the Bull Reds and if a 6' shark picks it up, it can still handle them no problem. At BHP when it was really rough and windy sometimes you couldn't get the Bull Reds in the net so you would have to rope the leader or use one of those hook devices that goes around it.
A rod for every occasion a 6' to 7' standup / boat rod when you need to muscle the fish. A 10 footer when you need some distance on a jetty or pier. A 13 footer when you need some serious distance in the surf.
We've been talking about going duck hunting this season but haven't really been seeing any numbers, maybe the next cold front will fix that.
Thanks for always sharing with us, Larry!
Fish are never safe when the bro’s are on the rocks! Olympic Jetty Redfish toss 😂😂
😂 they've been safe from us for a month. Lol

Casting those baits like a champ! Into the wind!! 🔥
Yeah that 20mph wind is no joke! lol I need to check out your video later today, I heard you got on them Bull Reds too!
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing Was able to land one bad boy! Wished for more! 😂
@@MADFISHINREELS better than nothing!
I've been using a 9' okuma pch rod with the reel seat moved up higher to help with casting. That rod paired with an okuma komodo and 50lb braid is a very light setup but very powerful and have even caught a few sharks on it around 5' without any problems. I also have a couple of custom 10' steadfast rods that work very well off the jetties.
That's awesome! It sounds like you like the Okuma more than the custom Steadfasts. Lol
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing I like the steadfast rods a lot, the okuma is just so much lighter. It makes it a lot easier on the long walk I need to make at the jetties I fish. I usually pack pretty light and don't take a cart. Prefer the steadfast all day if I didn't have to carry it lol
@@davidram2500 lol yeah I understand that! We do the same when we fish the Port A Jetties, you can't bring a cart to the end unless you carry it over the rocks at certain sections.
Hello Matt, I have not seen any video of you and Rubin fishing for pompano lately. We went anyway to try. We got lucky, caught 2 big ones on Thursday but then we had to drive home at noon. I can't wait to catch more next time we're down there.
Congratulations on the 2 Pompano, Darlene! We went out a few weeks ago and unfortunately it was a terrible fishing day. We caught a couple of small Pompano and then the seaweed got very bad. We couldn't keep a line out without it picking up a ton of seaweed that took 10 minutes to get off and sweep the lines to the shore.
Early on Thursday was no weed but then they all came around noon. I hate the weeds.
@@darlenechung8664 good to know. The usual sargasm seaweed isn't that big of a deal but this seaweed was like cloth that was hard to remove.
Nicely done!!!
Thanks for watching!
Jack em up brotha!! I gotta fish there soon
We need to go up there to Galveston and tear up the Bull Reds with y'all one of these days! 💪
Puro pinche Jack ‘em up’ killer vid bros!
🎣
Heck yeah, thanks man we appreciate it!
Nice was that right before the little front we had ?
Yes.
wow it the gain fish
Thanks for watching! Down here we call the Red Drum, Redfish and the ones that are oversized Bull Reds.
Packery been on fire 🔥
Except wen I make there 😕🥴😟
Jack em up Daddy!!!!!!!!
Don't feel too bad, it happens to the Pros too. Good luck out there, Leroy, hopefully you get to jack 'em up!
You did a video on the Walmart saltwater reel not to long ago. What are your thoughts after using it? Thinking about getting one for surf and jetti fishing.
I believe you are thinking of Beach Bomber Fishing.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing Man, I'm sorry. I watch you both. Fish on!!!
@@reelsimple6342 lol it's all good we appreciate it!
Jack Em Up Daddy! Good shit
Thank you, Mike! 💪
How far do u think u can cast the hxw ? I like using mxl for casting far n lx for gar fishing
One day I was fishing the North Jetty and casted to the South Jetty which was ~80 yards. It all depends on if I'm fishing the jetty or pier and how hard the wind is blowing. On this day I was casting in to a 15-20 mile an hour wind, and the 80lb mono and 7' 400lb mono leader isn't exactly aerodynamic lol. If I was casting off of Bob Hall Pier (no pier there anymore lol) I can cast further because you can have the rod lower thus more travel time to put more power in to the cast.
Do you remember the specs on a 724 Harrington???
1 piece, 10 foot, 1.075" butt diameter, size 12 tip, weighs 18.5 ounces and 20-40lb class. It's between a 542 and a 552 but the butt on the 724 has a larger diameter than the 552. Lol
@Matt's Saltwater Fishing lol well Alright. 😃😃😃😀
I have a 724 in the garage. I have a saltist 50p looking to pair on a rod. Was thinking about the 724
@@johnnycortez46 The 724 is a badass rod and it pairs nicely with a Saltist. We had the Daiwa XSHA 50 on it, that's the combo I used a few years back to jack up the Jack Crevalle at Port A.
@Matt's Saltwater Fishing 10/4
I think I'll give it a shot and see how it runs. I think used that reel maybe twice since I bought it. Instead of having a rod built I figure try the 724 out. Thx for the feedback
That purple mxl is on a American rodsmith rod??
