  • While the system is not really shown in the video, it contains Wheelock E70 Speakers and Strobes (Speaker only in rooms, Speaker/Strobes in common areas). Due to Chicago code, there is only a continuous horn sound from the speakers UNTIL the fire department arrives, at which point the responding officers can utilize a microphone to communicate with the building. This is standard here. The panel is a Simplex 4100U with all IDNet addressable devices around. Odd system to most, so ask questions below if I missed anything here!

      I live near Chicago. At my school we have specular classics horn strobes. And we had to do that on Thursday. The second fire drill of the quarter. It doesn’t surprise me that Chicago has to do it too.

    Chicago is one of those places with its unique set of standards. For instance, when it comes to exit signs, the ENTIRE sign must be lit, not just the letters.

    This is actually a really common system in Iowa. Most systems with the E70 have a 4100 panel

    The hospital I used to work at has a Simplex 4100 classic with Wheelock E70s. And they has the same continues tune like in this video. I was like really a continues tune on a hospital.

    Just a continuous horn? That's boring.
    (Wait a second, that's half of my videos.)

      But it stands true that a continuous horn with no voice message on a speaker system is boring indeed.. But that's the norm here!

      @@TheFirePanel Are all new buildings required to have voice evac in Chicago?

    • @TheFirePanel
      @TheFirePanel  4 года назад +2

      All new ones that require systems, yes. Some buildings don’t require them if they have at least sprinkler coverage

    The Chicago code is stupid because voice evac systems doing a very loud continuous tones are very annoying, more likely to cause someone to have a headache, and the person ears will more likely hurt which are much worse than code-3 as this should be no longer up to code because code-3 is always required in buildings today and not continuous
