  • She may have thought she was demonstrating how to make her favorite dish, but instead she showed what not to do in the event of a kitchen fire. Kelly Caron, 26, livestreamed making a steak on Twitch. Her cooking caused so much smoke, she set off the fire alarm in her apartment building. She ran out of her apartment screaming for help when there were flames in the kitchen. Kelly says she was in “panic mode.”

Facts! I had a similar thing happen in my early years of learning how to fry chicken. My gf tossed the kitchen towel at the fire and I am glad she missed. I just remained calmed, and turned the stove off, then got the flower and and poured it over the fire. After everything was good...then I proceeded to grill my girlfriend. Told her dont EVER try to put out a fire with a kitchen towel. Had it landed on the fire it would have been worse.

In the Navy, I was at a firefighting school where they showed what happens when you handle a grease fire wrong. They had a big deep-fat fryer that was on fire. Then the instructor, in full gear while we were all like 40 feet back, threw a 3-gallon bucket of water on the fire. The fireball went up like 20 feet and there was actually a mushroom cloud from it, dead serious it was like a bomb going off. That made a big impression on me at age 18, I joined the Navy right out of high school.
We also learned that if you have a fire in the engine compartment of your car and a fire extinguisher, don't mess with unlatching the hood and all that, all you're going to accomplish is to burn your hands. Spray the extinguisher through the grill, works like a charm.
