@@masterofice_ Funny you mention that. I forgot that I already wrote a similar comment a year ago before this one. Hard to remember when it's all the way down the web page with all the thousands of other comments for this video.
The main reason why this seems like Winston was protecting John, is: 1) He only shot him at the bulletproof vest, at point blank range... it was pretty easy to take a headshot on John. 2) The receptionist says “Well played Sir”, which doesn’t make much sense as from the 2nd movie... He seems to see John as a friend. Either this isn’t betrayal, or this was Winston’s plan since the end of the 1st Movie.
It wouldn't make sense for Winston to wait until this scene to betray John and mean it. He would've wasted most of his Continental staff and risk his life too doing so. He could've had John executed like Perkins or not give John a marker and a one hour head start
@@kkrummelrhs plus doing that, His position as a Owner of New York Continental is put on trial too, and starts war against the High Table and removes his Continental's power(Which he got it back anyways) I don't see a point of betraying John by doing all of that where he could have just executed him in the first place and called it a day.
1:23 The adjudicator's head is positioned exactly so it appears like they've got horns. Well played cinematographers. Edit: For people wondering no I didn't see this on Canadian Lad but I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice it!
Winston is very clearly not aiming for the head, and also very clearly knows John's suit is bullet proof, so I think Winston just made it look like John was dead so he could remain in power while John does things undercover with the Bowery king, dismantling the high table piece by piece.
Winston prob did it so he can still have his position as the manager which would be helpful for John considering Winston’s part of the high table and literally manages a continental
I could be wrong, but the way Winston looks at it, he's hinting at John that we must live to fight another day. Afterall, that was only the first wave. John must seem like he died to regroup for another fight against the High Tables. Winston needs to regain the continental, which is his source of power to fight back against the high table. When John said "Winston?!" and Winston responds "Sorry John, don't see any other way." It was as if they were communicating with each other "Running isn't going to work, you're going to have to play dead". After that, Charon whispers as the Adjudicator walks away "Well played, sir." Perhaps it was all an act to get the high table's trust so that they can take them down. Afterall, Winston wasn't too happy that the High Table tried to have him killed. Plus, John sparing his life shows how much their friendship means to each other that they would break any rules to save each other. Guess we'll see in Chapter 4
No matter how many times I watch this scene, the hits John takes as he falls always makes me grimace in empathetic pain. I mean, if this were a true crime show, John would be dead from a whiplash-broken neck, extensive damage to central organs, likely at least a single punctured lung, a probably both arms broken in some fashion, skull fracture-up-to-shattering impact to the side of the face, and countless muscle and tendon injuries. Like, I once sat on my nuts wrong and had to go to the hospital and John just basically gets hit by a truck and just walks it off.
I really hated that chick from this "High Table" she's throwing her position at the high table around like it matters. she's just going to be another corpse by the hands of John Wick
Along the same lines: the one thing I didn't understand was why the Adjudicator went after the Bowery King. He helped John *before* he was excommunicated by Winston so, unless I missed something, there was no reason for her to tell him he needed to step down and then later have Zero and his men attack them.
I have a feeling she's going to be a badass just like Cassian in part 2. It didn't make sense why they didn't just shoot her when she kept making phone calls for more hitman.
Winston knows his suit is bullet proof and from The Elder which also absorbs some of the impact away from falling just like it absorbs the impact of bullets
He did just protect the entire Continental from a fully armed and armored High Table Siege Team, all alone. The funny thing is, through out the 3 movies and especially in the final fight scene where the two Ninja’s are fighting John. The movies beg to point out that John Wick on Screen is the 5yrs retired Rusty John Wick, that the real John Wick is still not been on camera yet... that’s the best part,
Everyone in comments: Winston was saving John! Winston: "Damn right it was well played, why do you think I told you to set out that net across the alley before all this, I had it all planned out!? The fall would be ridiculously likely to kill him otherwise. I mean who could expect someone to hit a series of surfaces to break the fall and none of them just killing the person anyway! That'd be crazy! You set up the net, right?" Receptionist: "Ummm..."
I think, even if John doesn’t realize now, Winston was actually saving his life.... he literally only shot at his armored regions, instead of a flat out headshot. Probably spur of the moment thinking what would be best possible thing he could do.... least I hope so
He shoots at John's head multiple times. John blocks his face with the suit. All the crap that happened to the continental is John's fault, so of course he betrayed him.
@@ethantoise4073 look at 1:52. The first 2 shots could've landed right at John's face. Even the 3rd and 4th could've. He intentionally shot it at his suit rather than his head. We even watching the same thing? The movie didn't even try to hide this fact. it's in plain sight.
@@azncoolboii That is because if he shoots him in the face, it ends the story. Watch the other shots, and you can see he is going for his face as soon as Wick pulls the suit up to block. Plus take into account: 1) Wick has not been told the plan and would fire at Winston if he had a gun, which Winston doesn't know if he does or not. 2) Wick jumps off the building himself, meaning Winston would not know he was going to do that.
Ethan Toise Bro that’s incredibly contradicting. Point is, he had more than easily clear shot of his head and he didn’t take it. So either you’re wrong or filmmakers did a bad job of shooting the scene for the intended narrative to follow
You can tell Winston really regrets shooting at John near the end of this scene but I believe he was intentionally trying not to kill him cause he could’ve easily shot his head quick and simple but instead aimed for his suit lead him to the side of the continental where he could (possibly) survive (of course he survives) but OH BOY DOES WINSTON HAVE TO EXPLAIN HIM SELF FOR HIS LIFE IN PART 4
Bowery King and Winston in cahoots. My hunch: Remember just before the Bowery King got cut up by the shinobis, he released a pigeon. I believe that was a secret correspondence message to Winston to plan out the "play" together. BK mentioned the pigeons can't be tracked nor intercepted. As a writer/director you don't just spend more than 30 seconds of dialogue (initial meeting of BK and the Adjudicator) without an agenda/plot twist to the story!
At 0:53 you can hear a slight beep and when it ends winston starts negotiating. At 1:18 you can see winston noding to john where he should go. Also at 2:05 you can see a figure disappearing(which i assume is the one who took john with him) at the left on winston's head.
0:55 -There’s a text chime! -Winston says he has contacts all around New York -the Bowery is a part of New York -Winston contacted the Bowery King to start the war
Trevious James except The Bowery King says to John “Winston keeps the continental and you take the fall” that seems pretty clear to me that there was no team up between Winston and The Bowery King and that Winston turned on John.
@@thetraveler7368 Except Winston, Charon & Wick could if kept the plan secret between the 3 of them. To everyone else, Winston stabbed Wick in the back.
Well, this is what John Wick 3 is kinda mostly known and loved for. While chapters 1 and 2 mainly focus more like the real life story (exept for pencil kill), John Wick 3 started bringing sone impossibble things to the franchise which cannot be real.
1:20 Now Everything goes correctly. Anybody else saw the facial expression that Winston made like: it’s okay, When John said: Winston? So maybe John could have known of Winston’s plan for “defeating” high table Afterwards the receptionist (black guy) said: - Well played sir - as recognizing the wise act of Winston And another question that could make Everything fit as my “theory” is: Did Winston know that “the king” was hiding there? And so they could plan a comeback to defeat the high table. *Idk, just my thoughts about it .*
I like how Winston shoots John in his bullet proof suit in areas he knows are bullet proof. Intentionally cause he knows John will survive the fall. I also like how the front desk guy knows Winston’s plan as he does it. And says well played sir.
Thejan Rodrigo just pay attention in the scene Winston aiming for the head, mr wick he dodge it twice with his arm, now you want that suit, he is fully armored
Falling from that distance i would assume a normal person would be dead, he uttered 'baba yaga' in a sarcasm tone when the adjudicator tell him John's body is missing.
@Serbise Edafos Between 1:52 to 1:57, he just let John get near the balcony when he had plenty of opportunities to shoot his head. Slow down the video if you want to see where the bullets hit (I don’t think his hand is bulletproof).
but the same can be said the other way: If he really wanted to kill him, he would send his men down there to make sure he was really dead and wouldn't smile after he finds out that he's alive
When he falls, the first and third impact are survivable because the force of the impact is spread out to the entire body, and they're flexible surfaces so that absorbed more of the force. The fourth impact, on the ground, could not absorb any force so he definitely broke something there. He also definitely would have broke something from the second impact because the fire escape railing concentrates the force of the impact to a smaller part of the body.

"You were merely showing your strength so that you could keep the Continental" By strength, you only mean John Wick right? Because like, almost all of Winston's men died except for the Receptionist and John because they were only equipped with mere 9mms or .45 ACPs. If John was not equipped with an AR-15 that time and didn't switch to a shotgun chambered with slug rounds, they would've lost. Not to mention he dealt with 5 Martial Artists single handedly. I'm surprised the Adjudicator didn't realize this lmao.
well jhon wick basically took the sharp off the spear, and since wiston can do a last stand calling in favours from everyone to go out with a bang plus having to struggle with partisans loyal to wiston, she realized that leaving wiston in power is better anyway
She knows that John betrayed twice. One he broke the rules and killed two members of the Table and then he didn't complete the task. This is why she can't let him live.
If you watch closely at 1:19 Winston nods to John to go for the edge. He didn't want to kill him. Also he didn't go for the head and shot him in his suit which he knew was bulletproof.

The main reason why this seems like Winston was protecting John, is:
1) He only shot him at the bulletproof vest, at point blank range... it was pretty easy to take a headshot on John.
2) The receptionist says “Well played Sir”, which doesn’t make much sense as from the 2nd movie... He seems to see John as a friend.
Either this isn’t betrayal, or this was Winston’s plan since the end of the 1st Movie.
I think there a another hint look at 1:17 seems he gives a neck move maybe a plan?
It wouldn't make sense for Winston to wait until this scene to betray John and mean it. He would've wasted most of his Continental staff and risk his life too doing so.
He could've had John executed like Perkins or not give John a marker and a one hour head start
@@kkrummelrhs plus doing that, His position as a Owner of New York Continental is put on trial too, and starts war against the High Table and removes his Continental's power(Which he got it back anyways)
I don't see a point of betraying John by doing all of that where he could have just executed him in the first place and called it a day.

At 1:17 Winston gives Wick a head nod to move over to the ledge. It's quick, but look carefully

he could've easily died
@@lilkayswirl his suit is built out of armor and he’s John Wick, therefore, he’s built different
Also the phrase on 2:19
What exactly did he mean? ;з
Or it could just be typical stupid Hollywood gun shooting where they always aim for the area that doesn't kill.

BK mentioned the pigeons can't be tracked nor intercepted. As a writer/director you don't just spend more than 30 seconds of dialogue (initial meeting of BK and the Adjudicator) without an agenda/plot twist to the story!

Strong "I'd like to speak to the manager" vibes from the adjudicator
When he falls, the first and third impact are survivable because the force of the impact is spread out to the entire body, and they're flexible surfaces so that absorbed more of the force. The fourth impact, on the ground, could not absorb any force so he definitely broke something there. He also definitely would have broke something from the second impact because the fire escape railing concentrates the force of the impact to a smaller part of the body.
