True story: while backpacking through France after college, my friend and I went to Blois to see chateaux. We didn’t have enough $ to take a tour, or even get out of town and to the castle, so we walked around the town, enjoying the village and those lovely stuccoed houses you saw in this video. We stopped to take a photo of a particularly winsome cat, sunning himself on a deep windowsill, complete with a pot of red geraniums. Then the magic thing happened: the homeowners came out, introduced themselves, invited us into their home, fed us sandwiches (very French sandwiches), and showed us a movie of the chateaux of the Loire Valley. This was in the olden days before the days of RUclips, so this included propping a projector on the kitchen table, opening the white enamel lid on their stove, and running the film in their kitchen theater. (This whole exchange is taking place in French, of which I had a high-school command.) THEN, they bundled us into their little car and drove us to Chateau Blois, where we wandered the grounds and reveled in the hospitality of this kind family. It was a lesson in so many ways: we learned not to take on face value the reputation of the French people as unwelcoming. Indeed, they showed us the meaning of hospitality and kindness. ❤️🇫🇷
I think that reputation is of Parisians not the French. Like New Yorkers have a different mentality to Americans in general in regards to visitors. What a fantastic story and experience you had! I similarly found that travelling back in the days before the internet took over involved fantastic gestures from locals met spontaneously irl creating so many wonderful memories ❤️
You have no idea how much I love these little excursions to the brocantes and the antique stores and the various places you find these wonderful pieces. I'm sure somebody else noticed it somewhere, but I couldn't find a comment that pointed out the fact that it was a rhino not a hippo 🤗 and it was magnificent!.
The entire loire valley portion was unbelievably beautiful. The furniture is outstanding. Stephanie you outdo yourself continuously. Your dedication remarkable.
Here’s a tip. To measure furniture ‘in the wild’ learn what your handspan measures (thumb tip to pinky tip with fingers as wide as possible) and what your wingspan measurement is. (fingertip to finger tip with arms extended) Then whenever you want to check the size of a bed, or desk, you always have something to measure with. For me, I can always quickly check whether something is less or more than 69” / 175 cm wide or what multiple of 9” / 23 cm it is. Bonne chance!
The newest aquisitions for the Chateau are absolutely magnificent. The Givenchy secretary the rooltop desk and those chairs are goint to really be so lovely at LaLande.
My French heritage is happy!!! I love furniture, household items, China, etc that has a story. In fact everything in my home has a story. It is wonderful that you are safeguarding the history of the French life in LaLande. Stephanie, I know that the Chateau donates to various needy organizations. I would love for you to tell us more about that. You are all such good people. Love from Louisiana.
I love this video and I’ve watched it several times because, like you I appreciate really beautiful things. I like to aspire to follow William Morris’s ethos and have things either useful or beautiful in my house. Anyway I was thinking today as I rewatched the video that you really should create a petite salon upstairs in what I think was Michael’s bedroom and now Philip’s study. Keeping your study to work in but having a lovely place, with your best treasures and a sofa , somewhere private for you to sit with a fire on some evenings.
one of my most favourite memories is visiting a flea market in Paris...they are incredibly beautiful places filled with treasures, quite the experience and mid-day a group of merchants stopped set a lovely table complete with bread, cheeses and wine, now that is the way to enjoy your work day.
Those pieces of furniture are just beautiful and really do look great and at home in the chateau my favourite has to be the givanchy piece it's a piece of art. It's great to Jared back too.
Tell to the truth your videos got me thinking I might want to visit France one day (I never had much interest before) and after seeing this video of the beautiful towns and chateaus it’s absolutely next on my travel list!!
There is no denying that France is a beautiful country. It's also easy to see why it has attracted so many artists over the centuries because it has beautiful daylight.
This Chateau Diaries episode was such a great mix of happenings, visuals of travel and beautiful antiques. What an enjoyable episode to indulge our senses virtually! Adore the purchases for LaLande Stephanie and Of course the ‘duck painting’ is a winner too Philip, although your great Grandfather’s mirror behind the protector sheet looks to be a stunner. 👏❤️❤️❤️
HOW IS THE "FLOOR AND WALLS SITUATION GOING ? Have the engineers started raising the floors that have settled...????? Not a partron - wish I could be-but am interested in the grand salan renovation and the upstairs walls settling...can you pdate us?
What beautiful furniture, the chairs with that lovely yellow fabric, the fantastic works of craftsmanship the desk and escritoire, but my favorite is the Duck painting. I love moody landscapes. Enjoy your painting and may it bring lovely memories of your family.
I am the same going into Antique stores, I fall in love with everything, yet I cannot purchase the items I really truly love. Items from the past are glorious, unlike things that can be purchased newly made. I love when vloggers share sales and treasures. Your items look wonderful.
What a haul, in every good sense of the word. Each antique is impressive and smartly chosen. On my antique meter reader, I’d say my peak responses came on sight of the Givenchy secretaire, in part because of its provenance but mostly because of its remarkable beauty…. And then followed by the four antique chairs with their incredible fabric material and colors. The roll-top desk and commode are standouts for looks, quality craftmanship and function. Well done! I’m also thinking that Philip’s ‘Portrait of a Duck’ artwork, in honor of its stalwart avian subject, could be suitably subtitled ‘Country Quackers’. By the way, I found a hippo bar advertised online for about $35,000 though its admittedly less impressive than the Sotheby’s life size hippo bar and only has a dry bar portion that opens at center top. The rhino version is only $29,600. They're also not of metal but goatskin parchment instead. I’d order it and send it over for a Chateau Unwrapped gift but I’m sure the postage cost would be staggering. Then there’s the cost of French customs you’d have to pay on delivery which would be around $7,000-8,000. That’s because French customs charges 20% on the combined stated value of the merchandise plus postage costs!! Now that’s really a whole other kind of quackers! P.S: Always great to see the delightful Pavlina as well as the returning creative genius, Jared.
Such beautiful furniture! We call those fold-away desks secretaries in the US and I've never made the connection with secrete. I just assumed it had to do with secretary. I now know that in fact, the etymology of secretary is "person entrusted with secrets!" Thank you.
Stephanie you have brought me so many wonderful memories we often let those amazing memories fade. My great grandmother had beautiful Chandlier's in her home. Bc of you & her I have purchased 2 for my home, oh the beauty & joy it brings. Thank you!
Enchanted one again with the fun, adventure and gratitude you show to everyone you live with and meet. I can easily see why the reviews from volunteers that Phillip saw when deciding where to go where so positive. I am never disappointed when watching you and everyone there. Never feel bad, Stephanie, about talking and telling of the sad or unhappy things that happen. Life is filled with ups and downs. None of us escape from these experiences .
Those shorter columns would be spectacular in the English garden with antique pots with ferns or some other florals or a bird bath to give a dimension and added height
I have collected secretaries for years and never knew the word meant 'secret'. Thank you for so often teaching me something new! The Givenchy desk is stunning. Congratulations!
I used to visit Saint Ouen frequently before I retired as a flight attendant from Delta Air Lines. You are right by La Chope des Puce, home of Django Reinhardt the great Gypsy jazz guitarist of the 1930s and 1940s. Authentic live music on the weekends that I used to never miss. I was always the only American there, which I loved because it made me feel like a true Parisian. ❤️
Oh my goodness, Stephanie! Givenchy was both my employer and a friend. He asked for me to call him Oncle Hubert. How absolutely delightful that you not only watched the auction, but you were able to bring to LaLand, the beautiful desk; as you say it will be a statement piece. As always, cheering for you and yours ❤. LBP
Quite a haul, Stephanie; some beautiful antiques. Hooray, Jared's returned!!! Pavlina has her buddy back. What will they conspire to make next in the kitchen?
I am so glad that you could do a wonderful road trip last week and enjoy the antique window shopping and pick ups. I have a few handed made tables as my 4 times grandfather made them, and no one could afford to replace them. 😘😘😘 I love great wood. I am so happy Jared was there for a visit just when you needed friends around. Good memories build us up to withstand tragedy.❤️
How is the grand salon doing? Has the structural damage issue been resolved and if so, how? If not, when? The furniture purchases are wonderful! I especially like the 4 chair set. Such a beautiful and joyous color! Steph loving yellow, this is the perfect set for her study. I can just imagine it across from the settee with a small, wooden inlaid coffee table with a blue and white tea set at the ready, scones, jam and clotted cream and... oh yes, 1 freshly cooked asparagus spear. 😊
I so truly enjoy watching these videos. Visiting is on my bucket list all the way from Kansas USA ❤ God bless you all stay positive and strong for each other
Oh Stephanie! Of all your videos, this is absolutely one of my favourites, an epic adventure from beginning to end! Thank you so much for creating it! Loving the new pieces. Thank you for the video!
I soooo love your taste!!!! The yellow chairs are exquisite!!! The desks too!!!! Oh how I would love to go to France to look in all of those antique shops!!
Again, thank you for taking me along! Its great going with you- I'm always the driver, so I don't see much. And France is Soooo beautiful! Dare I say it? Possibly more beautiful than England? ! Well, I'd take either or better yet- both! Love it all.
I very much enjoyed coming along while you collected your lovely antiques. The Secretary was a fabulous deal. I had a feeling similar when bidding on Ebay but you have far succeeded that purchase. The chairs are so stunning. The fabric is beautiful. I am sure where ever they end up will be elegantly elevated because of them. The whole vlog was wonderful. Thank you.
What a wonderful fun and exciting adventure. Love, love, love all the treasures. Well done you two! I do love the outings! And I to can watch and listen to the rain or hours.
I have French furniture which I saw in an antique shop in New Zealand. I bought a parquet table, 6 carved chairs, a carved china cabinet and a hugh chiffioneer which is filled with glorious china. They are a set bought in from France. There was a linen box which I didn’t get. I went back immediately to get it and it had gone
Oh, Stephanie and Philip, what an exquisite secretaire, an amazing find!! I became teary when I saw it and its hidden architecture. Sometimes excellence makes me cry.
It makes my heart glad to see these pieces being appreciated and given a new life. I had to let go of several generations of family things and console myself that someone else will get them and love them the way I did. Wouldn't it be nice if they could take and tell us their stories? Ha! 🙂
Mssr. James, your collection is lovely. I inherited my great grandparents bed, but it was too short even for me at 162.5 cm. I did finally sell it to a collector. Broke my heart, but it was terribly uncomfortable to sleep in and I don't have room for giant collection pieces. I have happy envy for you, that you have found such beauty.
Hello Stephanie! could you do an episode on how you do your long range planning? i know that you share your garden design plans, plans for the lake renewal, chateau remodeling, and chapel plans. does you team have meetings where you plan out the whole year for your guests, events, remodels, etc. in advance? or does that responsibility fall on just you, Phillip and Nati? i have lived in what i call "community living" of multiple persons sharing cooking, gardening, cleaning and chores and we found it to be a challenge to get everyone on board with the plans. you are so amazing in your loving energy. your integrity and empathy are invaluable in helping us all change the world for the better. thank you so much, Bess in Oregon USA
Thank you for sharing such history!!! So exquisite!!! Love the chairs and all the commodes, vases, chandeliers, love the tapestries. Thank you Phillip and Stephanie, you have good taste in furniture Have a wonderful weekend!!!
Thank you for the brief tour of France! I loved so many things in this video! I wish I was mega rich and had a lovely big house that needed furnishing! I'd hire you two to buy all sorts of antique pieces to fill it!
Love ❤️ Love ❤️ Love I love the way Stephanie Vlogs and this one was the exception where it you could just feel her and Phillips energy as they were going around on their road trip and we were the back seat passengers 😊 going thru the French streets and country side was just amazing I mean I have seen all the trips but this had to be my fav just loved everything about the beautiful antiques the way you both interact with each other you both just compliment and support each other to a T 😊 Oh my goodness I could just go on and on Great to see Jarred back too ❤ Gonna watch it again 😂❤😊
After the sad news take a break and be easy on yourself. Everyone here would like you back to your usual happy self but after a shock or loss that takes time, and most of us have experienced that.

What a lovely encounter for you as you travelled in France quite some time ago.
Incredible kindness by proud French citizens. So delightful.
Gnarbel Jo! Yes. It is the unfortunate reputation of the Parisians, not necessarily of the rest of the country.
When we were in France, the people we met, were so nice, helpful and welcoming ...
I am for sure going back some day 😊
So great to see Jared back, lovely man.
Pavlina and Jared look like they could be brother and sister! Beautiful antiques, good job on purchasing those and pickinge them all up safely.
Watching this for the second time, the last time was a year ago, enjoying it again.
Just imagine, Givenchy sat at that desk and wrote notes to his dear muse Audrey Hepburn.....
Very possible. Lovely thought!
Imagine finding the hidden draw with such notes still in it!
I reallly love Phillips smile...
The entire loire valley portion was unbelievably beautiful. The furniture is outstanding. Stephanie you outdo yourself continuously. Your dedication remarkable.

Thank you for a delightful video! And what a close call we had of not knowing Philip! Phew!
So many beautiful treasures! Can't wait to see what projects Pavlina and Jarod concoct between them - two creative minds egg ing each other on.
love to see Jarrod back x

Same here! Though it probably isn't next on my list, but it's definitely close to the top!
There is no denying that France is a beautiful country. It's also easy to see why it has attracted so many artists over the centuries because it has beautiful daylight.
You will love France! I'm Dutch and I love my country, but if I was 15 years younger I would move to France for sure 🙂
Even if you only visit Paris it will light a fire to return again and again. Vive la France!
You won't regret going there. France is magnificent! IMHO only Italy can equal it.

Thank you Jared and Pavlina for sharing and helping Stephanie and Phillip. I will call your area, Land of Life and Love, no more witches.
Would be interesting to know more of the history of the area
“George Sands” château about 1/2 hour from LeLande.
Stephanie would definitely give new meaning to "Van Life." Take care and God bless.
What beautiful furniture, the chairs with that lovely yellow fabric, the fantastic works of craftsmanship the desk and escritoire, but my favorite is the Duck painting. I love moody landscapes. Enjoy your painting and may it bring lovely memories of your family.
Fantastic Guys Love the pieces Thanks for Sharing
I saw my vase in your study. I am so pleased that you liked it enough to put it on display
Hello from Manchester, snowing! I just saw your first videos after binging on The Chateau Diaries for ages :) Adorable xxx
That was delightful and so much fun!
Stephanie, take all the time you need to mend your heart.
We all know you and love you❤
Gorgeous things and I actually love the duck portrait 💕😁
That was lovely! Portrait of a Duck says it all Steph! Thank you!
The furniture is splendid.
Look after each other.
Greetings from England
Enjoyed the unique furniture pieces and the beautiful countryside on your journey!
I am the same going into Antique stores, I fall in love with everything, yet I cannot purchase the items I really truly love. Items from the past are glorious, unlike things that can be purchased newly made. I love when vloggers share sales and treasures. Your items look wonderful.
Oh, Stephanie…..I really appreciate when you use a French word or description and translate it to English and explain what it means! Thank you!
That was very enjoyable...love love your finds..😃👍💞🇨🇦
Excuse me but postal costs from USA are not especially cheap compared to others countries I would say.
Such beautiful furniture! We call those fold-away desks secretaries in the US and I've never made the connection with secrete. I just assumed it had to do with secretary. I now know that in fact, the etymology of secretary is "person entrusted with secrets!" Thank you.
and has the roll top desk beat because the roll top desk is a huge piece of furniture.
Loved your van trip. Glad Jared is back!!!!!❤️ and is there an update on the grand salon?
Such wonderful antique finds for the chateau. Well done indeed! Welcome back to also to dear Jared! He's always such a bundle of joy.

I love “Portrait of a Duck”. Everything is beautiful, you are very lucky to have such a beautiful chateau to shelter these treasures ❤❤
A storm when you are already tired. The perfect lullaby.
I soooo love your taste!!!! The yellow chairs are exquisite!!! The desks too!!!! Oh how I would love to go to France to look in all of those antique shops!!
Great trip to Paris!!
You haven't given any news about the Grand Salon and the sagging beam. I hope you have a plan for it's repair❣️
i have a commode very similar to yours. I love it. Inside the lower cabinet portion is lined with mirror.

Stunning purchases, but the jewel in the crown is the Givenchy secrétaire, it is stunning. Bravo. 👌
What a Lovely day!! Even the rain!
It's snowing in Woodley Stockport (where Ed is from) too.
Oh, Stephanie and Philip, what an exquisite secretaire, an amazing find!! I became teary when I saw it and its hidden architecture. Sometimes excellence makes me cry.
Oh! My eyes are Buzzing from all that beauty! I love that we all have this in common, a love for beautiful objects and artworks!
It makes my heart glad to see these pieces being appreciated and given a new life. I had to let go of several generations of family things and console myself that someone else will get them and love them the way I did. Wouldn't it be nice if they could take and tell us their stories? Ha! 🙂
What beautiful antique and Phillip looks absolutely gorgeous in the shade of blue of hate and scarf ... and I love the duck painting 🖼

Thank you for the brief tour of France! I loved so many things in this video! I wish I was mega rich and had a lovely big house that needed furnishing! I'd hire you two to buy all sorts of antique pieces to fill it!
I really enjoy your brocante escapades. I am there with you both like an alter ego.

I love the way Stephanie Vlogs and this one was the exception where it you could just feel her and Phillips energy as they were going around on their road trip and we were the back seat passengers 😊 going thru the French streets and country side was just amazing I mean I have seen all the trips but this had to be my fav just loved everything about the beautiful antiques the way you both interact with each other you both just compliment and support each other to a T 😊

Great to see Jarred back too ❤
Gonna watch it again 😂❤😊
After the sad news take a break and be easy on yourself. Everyone here would like you back to your usual happy self but after a shock or loss that takes time, and most of us have experienced that.
