What I have to say is that your brother's got taste 🙂 Envy is deserved for your opportunity to attend Viviz's concert. Gfriend is my ult Kpop group but glad to see Viviz flourishes with their music.
I think you should react to Untie next. It was a B side on the VERSUS album and the performance video won Best Performance of 2023 award for a girl group. The visuals will seriously distract you so be warned. The lyrics are very meaningful too talking about the addiction to social media that leaves you feeling empty with all its lies and how you need to break free. So a lyric video is needed first for that as you will get endlessly distracted by the killing visuals of the video and you will find it hard to look at the lyrics for more than 2 seconds before you get visually attacked once more.
My understanding of the video and song is multi layered. The song talks about a toxic love hate relationship where the attraction is too strong to end it but you repeatedly keep getting hurt whilst in it. So the constant melodrama can only be tolerated if what you feel must be love. My take on this is that it is personal and using metaphors for their career. Kpop is toxic and you get many knocks and hardships such as working 36 hours without a proper meal and no sleep apart from on the floor for an hour in a music show dressing room as GFriend showed us in their behind the scenes videos. Umji got lots of hate from trolls calling her ugly when she was a teenager as well as suffering from people abusing her for being supposedly talentless. Nasty lies but scarring for one so young. But despite all the bad things they live for performing live on stage where they are happiest and wouldn’t swap their career choice for anything else. The lyrics can be interpreted as their maniac love affair with Kpop which is so chaotic with its ups and downs. The video depicts the breakup of a pop group which is reference to the the breakup of GFriend when their contracts were terminated by their company unexpectedly out of the blue with just 4 days notice and they had to part from each other and live separately for the first time in 8 years. But the video then shows them reunited again at the end and they are happier than ever and continuing to make music again which alludes to the formation of VIVIZ when 3 members reunited. So it’s quite a back story.
You are so lucky to have tickets to see them live. They have only been to the UK once back in 2022 and my health didn’t allow me to see them then. I booked hotels and VIP parking passes to see them later that year in London and got a good ticket as well but it cost me over £600 to see them in a 25 minute slot at a festival. The ticket and parking was £250+ alone. But a major disaster occurred in South Korea the week before and the concert was cancelled and they have never been back since. I got my money refunded but I still have never seen them despite following them since 2018 when I first discovered GFriend and realised that they were my ultimate group. GFriend never came to Europe in their 7 years together. But you are getting a full 2 hour concert not 30 minutes with choreography created by Kany who was Beyoncé’s choreographer. So it should be epic.
VIVIZ have wonderful visuals so it is very distracting trying to watch their music videos and read the lyrics at the same time. I would find it hard to concentrate too. I suggest that you watch a lyric video first and try to understand the song and the lyrics before moving on to the music video which you can then just enjoy a couple of times at least. I think that is how you will get the most out of these first listens.
Viviz!

Thanks for checking out the girls! Would highly recommend you to check out their 'Untie' performance video too which is the follow-up track to Maniac.
