I've been a guitarist for 17 years, and just started getting into drumming about a couple months ago (no kit yet, practicing in my car and on my lap). I've been learning this one, as much as I can without a kit, and I can tell you the part at 2:26 is absolutely orgasmic to play. Except I'm only 3-limbing it, I haven't tried to keep time with the hat like he's doing. That's next level right there
What I love about this video is your ghost notes. Most drummers play those way too loud and it takes away from the heavy syncopation with the guitars. You’re one of the few I’ve seen that actually play the ghost notes at the right volume.
Too many people do Meshuggah drum covers with weak sounding mixes and kits that aren't tuned like Thomas'...you are not one of those people, awesome job!
Meshuggah is so fun to listen to especially the drums because Haake is a beast. And those who cover it, it's sort of a test to see how tight pocket the drummer has. You got it pretty good. If I can make a request that you'd cover Soul Burn and/or "I", I'd be so happy. I know "I" isn't the most appealing song to cover and it's would take alot of work to do it. But I like it cause it's the odd ball song in their catalogue and it has some huge riffs/parts in it.
***** Yeah that is actually true. Haake never even played it in the studio as a drum machine was used. And indeed they've never played it live. I heard a long time ago in an interview when asked about "I" they did say "Never say never" but that it's very very unlikely that they'll ever play it live. They sort of didn't really care about that song for some reason and it would be so huge undertaking that they just won't do it at least now. But they said you never know but it would need something special to happen that they would consider it. That's also one that thing that intrigues me. It's so huge that they won't do it so it would be extra special if someone else would. Definitely one of my favourites from them.
***** Oh awesome! I definitely wanna see it :) I would guess that this is sort of similar to Bleed as it has same kind of repetitive drum patterns etc. Although "I" is definitely on the next level of difficult. All I can say is good luck :)
I RUclips searched this simply from watching the Wolf of Wall Street goes metal video. Lmao, but dude. This is sooo good!! Super nice foot control. Great cover!!
Dude, this cover is awesome! :) Working on this song at the moment, the solo section is nasty haha! But you nailed it, and I love that you added some personal flavor with the fills etc. Great job!
It’s not too complicated, just a little. Try to read the snare drum pattern separately from the other pieces of the drum kit. You will see how easy can be.
Islam Falmi it took me a while to figure it out too... but its a pattern, it goes back n forth landing on the beat and then the offbeat. Set a metronome to 133 bpm to the song and you can see where it revolves again to the 1. It will be easier to understand with a click track.
Keep in mind the song is completly in 4/4. Everything in the song(specially that middle part to the end) makes more sense if you can hear a click track. Accenting the 1 so you can hear where it revolves back again.
Those rolls you sneak in at 2:32 and 2:47 are ridiculously wonderful
That's a tasty snare tone you got bro

Sounds simple but extremely complex
The beauty of Meshuggah.
Somehow Tomas managed to train his left hand to constantly play offbeat ghost notes when it's not doing anything.
Beautiful kit. Great cover
Kit sounds amazing. Great cover.

Can anyone help me out with how the snare goes at the 3:04 beat? I still can’t figure it out
