i know it's on the same album but idle worship also has the line "i'd hate to let you down" which is repeated word for word in no friend. this also links with no friend being an outro to idle worship.
Jesús Sierra another reference maybe . 'Fake Happy' Draw my lipstick wider than my mouth 'No friend' Beneath another burning sky, behind our painted lips
I put down a few references in my long interpretation post, but you found a few that I missed as well. Also, I strongly believe that the Fake Happy reference that John mentioned was intentional as well.
I hate how underrated this track is. There's so much emotion in the delivery of these lines. The way he screams, "YOU'RE NO FRIEND OF MINE" gives me so many goosebumps. While the rest of the album is true to conveying an upbeat sound with dark lyrics, this one and 26 are the most straightforward and dark. They're raw. This song feels like a wound. That's why it's one of my favorites.
My main problem with this song is that THEY DID NOT MAKE AARON AUDIBLE AT ALL. Even if that was the point, just quieting down the instrumental a small amount or adding an edited version on RUclips like they did with Fake Happy would just be so nice. Hell, I can't even hear the vocal melody. The first time I heard this song, I thought it was mostly instrumental.
@@carolbp13 I think Tell Me How is a perfect closing track as it is. That very last line, "I can still believe...." to me portrays a sense of hope to make it out of the hard times & the darkness
Lyrics (from the album booklet, for anyone who wants them) Another brick red room another black top town another misspelled band burning their own houses down another pine box tune to fill the cemetery day another stay a touch of orange over purgatory grey another thorny field to scatter fruitless seed another song that runs too long god knows no one needs more misguided ghosts, more transparent hands to drop a nickel in our basket and we’ll do our riot dance beneath another burning sky behind our painted lips in scares of catatonic smile-covered, ankle-bitten ships so throw your pedestal of stone in the forgetful sea as protection from the paper-thin perfection you project on me when this repetition ends behind the window shades a semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I’ve made that most unrestful bed, that most original of sins and you’ll say that’s what I get when I let ambition win again I’d hate to let you you down so I’ll let the waters rise and drown my dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes back in a cast bit-part, back when I felt most free I had a butchers heart and no one thought they knew me so before the regiment resumes before the dreaded sun appears my driver’s waiting so let’s make one point crystal clear; you see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design I’m no saviour of yours and you’re no friend of mine
Oh damn, this seems like a direct message to fans and media. It's sad to think she felt this way too long so she had to turn it into a song to be listened to.
sydney sometimes does stuff It's like references from their previous songs / album (part II, misguided ghosts, riot, ankle biter, that's what you get, etc) and translated into something gory
This song and Idle Worship make me feel a little bit guilty because honestly I've been putting Hayley on a pedestal and I've been looking up to her because I needed it and I needed someone to believe in. I needed to hold on to something and I grasped to her because I felt like I knew her through that beautiful gift that is the lyrics that she kindly donated to the world and she seemed strong enough to carry my insecurities but I really only knew and still know the smallest part of her. Because of that shiny armor that she wore so well for so many years I almost did't realize that Hayley is human too and she's no hero, she's just living life and making mistakes like we all do and she's not perfect and I admire her even more now. The words of this song hit me hard I hope she can forgive me (and probably other fans of the band) for the weight we've been putting on her shoulders. I hope she knows it all came from a place of pure love tho. Sorry for my bad English, I hope I still let my message come across.
we need to know they are humans, they meke "stupid" mistakes too... love their songs is one thing, follow them on social media... but think they have a perfect life, man, that is bu****t
The first part (spoken one, almost inaudible) is the letter that Hayley wrote to Aaron explaining to him what Idle Worship was about. These are lyrics (it's very low on the mix): Found these old letters from years ago felt it was fitting to continue that correspondence. Can’t help I’m sentimental. Thanks for talking with me today. Hope this is helpful for you. I also hope that Birdie [Aaron’s daughter] is happy and healthy and staying out of trouble to a reasonable extend. What I wrote was sort of my way of finally being able to address how it feels to have anyone would look at you as anything but the human you are. Good and bad. For me, mostly bad. A lot of girls will come up to me before or after a show and tell me I’m perfect or that they wanna be like me. While I realize that maybe it’s some melodramatic version of what they may truly feel, what I truly hear is ‘You can do no wrong in my eyes’. At that point I’m not even thinking about interaction with them anymore. My mid is just reeling thinking about how much my insides are complete contrast to what is being projected onto me. There were, were so many seemingly horrible things happening last year. I, I just wanted to die. I didn’t even feel like what I was doing was useful anymore. We couldn’t even keep ourselves healthy, let alone spread any sort of hopeful message. It felt embarrassing to be trapped inside myself and think I had a purpose. None of these things even begin to scratch the surface of faith and god and where my head was at with that reality. I had nothing else to rely on - no ego, no relationships I trusted, no one. Usually in these times I had envisioned hope as a little pinprick of light down a long, long, dark tunnel, and this time there was no tiny light and no nothing so I just thought about future and death. My whole life I’ve been about trying to make people feel better but I can’t even make myself feel better. It’s hard to think that we’re about to head back out into the wild after being in a safe cocoon for nearly 2 years, and to see myself in the reflection of people’s eyes realizing that what they see may not even be close to the image I see of myself and I think I might actually be more afraid to let my own self down than anything else. I, I feel like the man in the story who, who saw a bear floating in the river and thought it was a fur coat. 12 years ago I stood on the shore and jumped in and grabbed the coat. The river was rushing toward a waterfall and, and my friends stood on the shore and shouted to let go of the coat and swim back to land. I let go of the coat but the coat won’t let go of me. In any case, please let me know if there’s more I can give you. If nothing come of it, then just know we are grateful. Heartbreaking.
"NO FRIEND" is honestly a witty-poetic amalgamation of who Paramore "is" and what they've been through over the years. The song feels like an ode to Paramore's roller-coaster history, written by an observer and friend. The beginning lyrics take us wayyy back in time when they alludes to how Paramore got their name. They then go on to speak on fame, societal pressure, loss, misconceptions, hidden fears, exposed truths, emptiness, gratitude, sorrowful hope. As a band and singular individuals they are willing to be ripped open and scrutinized, and as much as it hurts they sticth themselves back together and are resilient because they are fighters. The gritty delivery, the lyrics being deeply embedded in the overlays of guitar/bass/drums. I feel like the song writers are saying "I know who Paramore really is. You say you love them...well, dig deep to find who they *really* are."
If you look up the lyrics, this song is actually pretty deep and emotional. Knowing a bit of the history of paramore, I felt the pain this song is trying to convey. I found the delivery of the singer, especially the "YOU'RE NO FRIEND OF MINE" part very powerful. I see it's probably an unpopular opinion but this track is one of my favorites in this album.
My random analysis: "Another misspelled band = Paramore isn't a word it might relate to Paramour which would make it a misspelling. "burning their own houses down = ruining things for themselves...'Let the flames begin' mentions "when they burn our houses down" so that could relate, maybe the tables have turned and the only ones hurting them now is themselves. "touch of orange" Hayley had orange hair, it represents a different version of her. One that was full of hope and spirit, ready for anything. Not only that it represents another completely different Paramore. "drop a nickel in our basket in our basket and we'll do our riot dance" = they do whatever the audience wants even for a small price, the way they say they'll do their 'dance' makes it sound like they're being seen as circus animals who will do what they are told especially since 'nickel' makes it sound as if they're not getting much out of it. They mention Riot, since it was their most popular album and it had some of their biggest hits on it like 'misery business', people still complain about how they miss that Paramore and some would rather see them just perform songs especially from Riot in the style they used to. It doesn't matter if they don't want to, they'll do it anyway. "smile - covered ankle - bitten" = reference to ankle biters from last album, and suggest followers who just smile and do as they're told. "pedestal of stone" = shes on an unbreakable pedestal, the pedestal puts her above everything, when she gets hate its worse because shes up so high, its protection from hate sometimes, her perfection is a lie not her lie but her fans. "as protection from the paper - thin perfection you project one me" they act as shes perfects, its paper thin cause there's no evidence just words, they wash away their own insecurities by vicarious when it comes to her, their lives are not perfect so they pretend her is to fulfill their own hopes. Its not intentional all people need something to hold onto but their hurting her. "In the bed I've made" = this is her life shes made the choices that got here here making her the one to blame not her fans. "that most unrestful bed" the life shes made is not the one she wanted, shes tired of it. "you'll say thats what i get when i let my ambition win" = people can say its her fault because shes the one who wanted this life (band) the band was her ambition she had hope for it, she wanted to make music with her friends but ignored the consequences, now shes famous and always in the spotlight whether she likes it or not. "I'd hate to let you down so I'll let the water rise and drown my dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes" = doesn't want to fail them ('I'd hate to let you down' - also a line from Idle worship which speaks of her fear of disappointing people), she feels like shes failed everyone because she isn't what they've made her out to be "I'll let the water rise and drown my dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes" = she will sacrifice her own well being and happiness for them like she always does, "naive expectation" = stupidly expecting her to live up to everything they believe she is, not a real person, the character they created, each person has a different equally impossible vision of her in their head and they are naive because they ignore the fact that it is impossible. "back when I felt most free... and no one thought they knew me" = when she really was herself no one believed her (because it wasn't what they wanted from her, they tell themselves that she is most happy being whatever version of her is their favourite) she had to become fake/ some one else for people to think they knew her. "before the regiment resumes, before the dreaded sun appears" = before the fans get here. "my drivers waiting" = waiting to take her to the show. "you see a flood-lit form" = they see her as a bright light - full of hope, pure and perfect. "I see a shirt design" = she sees Paramore shirts, that's how she identifies them, it scares her/ "I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine" = shes not what they think she is, not a hero just a girl who can't save everyone, who's job is to sing not to be a savior, she doesn't know them like they think she does - they are not friends. This last part isn't in the official lyric book you get with the CD or even in the description of this video like its being ignored, maybe she knows they'll be ignored anyway, they'll hear what they want to hear and ignore her pleas anyway. Its almost like its the part shes most scared of, or the part shes most scared to admit. "river is rushing towards a waterfall" = shes going to be swept up by the water , thrown to the bottom to drown. "what they see may not even be close to the image I see in myself" = not what they think she is, they're seeing a completely different person (the person they want to see). "I actually might be more afraid" afraid of herself finding out who she really is. "Twelve years ago" = the band formed 12 years ago. "thought it was a fur coat" - thought the band would be something beautiful, a rich dream but in actual fact it was "a bear" its dangerous, it could even kill her. "Jumped in" = stuck in water (stuck in the band), stuck with this life. "I let go of the coat but the coat won't let go of me" = shes tried to leave, to escape the band/ life she chose, but they won't ever let her go, clinging on and keeping her here. The lyrics near the end become harsh "I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine" (angry at fans) but the song ends with "let me know if theres more I can give you, If nothing comes from it then just know we are grateful" Its like she got scared and reverted back to the person who pretends to be happy, she thanks the people shes been screaming at this whole time, afraid of them and how'll they will react. She asks if theres more she can give even after making it apparent shes given them everything, even to the point where she has nothing left for herself. She is aware she may never be done giving. There might be a reason this part is let out of the lyric book - its not as real/its a lie. She reverts back to her fake self pandering and trying to please her fans. ------------------------------------ I thought the reason she didn't sing this herself andthe reason its so hard to hear is because shes so afraid of it, the truth. I don't know is she wrote the song I don't know If i remember her saying it was Aaron Weiss, it does say in the lyric book that its by Hayley, Taylor and Aaron but I thought I saw an interview where she said that she told him how she felt and he put the words down. If she told him how she felt and this is what he wrote out of it she must have game some pretty vivid imagery. This took so long to write that I'm not even going to double check it, but I hope it made sense anyway.
This is amazing! I love your interpretation on it and i'm surprised how much the song doesn't get appreciated much like the others. It's so full of emotion, anger, despair and the last parts of the song make me sad and realize this is what hayley felt and lots of people didn't understand
a ton of people are complaining about not being able to hear, maybe that was purposeful. i can't make out some things and although i got a huge wave of creepy vibes, i honestly admire this. also, the idea of Aaron being on this track instead of Hayley could mean something. considering her favorite band is mewithoutyou, and that this is an outro to Idle Worship, this could be Aaron kinda talking to Hayley about being an idol to her, and that he's not a superhuman himself. maybe having Hayley practice what she preaches?? not sure.. maybe i'm just weird.
This is surprising. Track 11 is a rather dark instrumental in an album that dwells and has the perfect balance of both light and dark and a beautiful realistic perspective on life. Love it. "I'm no savior of yours, and you're no friend of mine"
I don't think you're supposed to hear it. Do you guys remember when they were doing press for BNE and when she was talking about having written Ignorance, at first when she presented it to the guys she was kind of mumbling and hiding behind her hands the first couple of times before she actually got it out? I remember her saying it was because it was such a heavy subject to and about the people she cared about but it was negative *but* she needed to get it out. I think this is the same, because of the lyrics that you can hear " I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine", she's talking to us-her fans- and she's doing the same thing. Mumbling and kinda hiding. But she's *so* uncomfortable with this that she's not even singing it. Because it must be hard to have to deal with what you are and what you know you are in other people's minds. And this is the most depressed I've heard her since BNE.
Yeah, fans (we) are very stupid, always waiting everything from them and they don't have to do that. They just do the music, we should only hear it. I'm feeling guilty, but at least I learned the lesson. Sorry for this basic English.
@@MANJYOMETHUNDER111 a guy named John Peterson wrote an extensive analysis of the song here in the comments and it's what makes the most sense out of everything I've read. Take some time to read it and you'll be more certain of what the song's really about.
“I’m no savior of yours, you’re no friend of mine!” There’s so much strange power behind these words. It sounds like he’s sealing a fate when he says them
coolbanana165 I personally like music like this so it pleases me a lot. I can see how some may not like it, but it does add something different to the album
That moment when in the song Aaron mention: "Misguided Ghosts" "Riot!" "That's What I get when I let ambition win" and "I hate to let you down (Part of Idle Worship)" in this song
The best song on the album. Hands down. The mix is very different. But lyrically, one of the best Paramore songs ever written. The message is so heavy and it pains me that they’ve gotten to this point of conversation. I cannot even begin to comprehend the complexity of this piece and how it came to be. It’s pure magic.
@@kingzach74 come again? It was written by Hayley, Taylor, and Aaron Weiss, produced by Taylor and Justin Meldal-Johnson. Note that Aaron is essentially reciting a letter Hayley sent to him. Therefore, written by Paramore. Carry on.
I've been a Paramore fan since their begging and I've loved each of their phases, but After Laughter feels heavier than anything they've ever done before -in fact, in my opinion, the almost-happy tunes make all the lyrics sound even darker. It sucks that they have to go through a lot of difficult things to create something this good, but I'm really, really glad neither gave up on the band and found what it took to release this fifth album. There's no way I could ever repay all the hope they've given me through their music, so I can only hope things get better for them, for all of them, past and current members, because I know I wouldn't be the person I am today without their work to relate to and get me through life.

One of the most poignant lines of this album has to be "I'm no savior of yours; You're no friend of mine". It's a very powerful line and I think it says a lot about the band.
Everyone here owes it to themselves to go listen to "Fox's Dream of the Log Flume" if they haven't already. Same singer, one of Hayley's favorite bands, features Hayley herself. Just do it, it's good.
The 'Pale Horses' album is my favourite out of their entire body of music, oh and 'January 1979' is an amazing song, too. I'm a new fan, thanks to Hayley. Glad she's spreading the word and helping to promote them. I like that they embrace different genres. They reminded me of 'Hotel Books' but less 'emo'.
Aaron Weiss never fails too surprise me with his fricken vocals. Hayley loves mewithoutyou, it was only a matter of time before they did some type of collab! Love it
“No Friend” is a song about the Band’s Past. All of the hardships throughout the years of trying to keep it together without breaking down. The lyrics are actually really emotional if you get the meaning of it btw
idk why but this track scares me in a sense that I don't know what's going on or what's gonna happen. goosebumps everywhere and it gives me shivers. this track literally made me tear down a single drop coz it's just too good and it's underrated too :((
"You see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design I’m no savior of yours and you’re no friend of mine" plus all the self-referencing lines of old songs but twisted, its pretty self explanatory. The coolest way i've seen a band say "fuck off" to overly attached fans

I love how the instrumental takes over. Dominates. It's okay to hear it in the background, feels like I'm marching in a crowd at a protest or something. Sounds like loudspeakers at a rally. From the lyrics, it ties into the album that Hayley features on, Ten Stories. Maybe these two bands shared something interesting together, or at least Hayley and Aaron.
I went to Paramore's Jakarta concert last Saturday. They played No Friend and it was amazing. Hayley just laid on her back on the stage , she was like saying those emotional lyrics with her hands . Taylor got my jaw dropped. He's amazingly rocking the crowd with his guitar. Damn! My crush on him got deeper. I couldn't get over that night yet,soo grateful I could be there.
I can't be sure but I interpret to be a combination of emotions and general unsaid thoughts that the band has that they haven't, until now in after laughter, deeply touched on before. There are a lot of paramore song titles and lyrics sprinkled in and referenced to in the lyrics of this song. I think it also greatly ties into what Hayley sings about in Idle Worship. She talks about how many people look up to her in an un ideal way when she is just as flawed and broken as the people who "worship" her. The song also talks about their time before paramore, how different it is compared to how it is now. It's basically an honest synopsis of all the feelings a band like paramore would have after the constant loss of members and the pressure (pun unintended but it works) to perform after years of being in the spotlight.
I always took the buried vocals to represent their thoughts that they're afraid to say out loud. Especially since these lyrics are geared towards fans, like they don't want to offend fans or seem ungrateful. But it's something that's been on their mind for a long time and it needs to break out.
This makes me really sad. Its unbelievable brave to share this emotions you guys did a very good job to show them to the listener. My heart hurts and my ears are pleased. Just..thank you.
LYRICS: Another thick red beam Another black-top town Another misspelled band burning their own houses down Another pine-box tomb to fill the cemetery dead Another star, a touch of orange over purgatory grey Another void to fill Just scattered fruitless seed Another song I wrote that's too long God knows no one needs More misguided ghosts, more transparent hands We'll drop a nickel in our basket and we'll do our riot dance Beneath another burning sky, behind our parented verses Scores of catatonic smile covered assholes in a ship Layered by the school, so you can definitely see Can you forget these things? Perfection from the paper thief Perfection you project on me Behind the window shades I'm semi-conscious, already sleepin' in the bed I made That most unrestful bed, that most original sin What they act when I let ambition win I'd hate to let you down Thrown in a web with all his lies Drown my dull reflection in a naive expectation arise Back in the casket park Back when I felt most free I few a picture and nowhere God they knew me So before the wretched men resume Before their dreaded son appears My driver's waiting So let's make one thing crystal clear You see a fraudulent form I see a shirt design I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine You're no friend of mine You're no friend of mine I'm no savior of yours, you're not friend of mine You see a fraudulent form I see a shirt design I'm no savior of yours, you're no friend of mine I see myself in the reflection of people's eyes Realizing what they see may not be even close to the image I see in myself And I think I might actually be more afraid I feel like they know the story I saw a bear floating in the river and thought it was a fur coat Twelve years ago, I stood on the shore Jumped in and grabbed the coat And the river is rushing toward a waterfall And my friend stood at the shore and shouted to let go of the coat And swim back to land I let go of the coat but the coat won't let go of me In any case please let know if there's more I can give you If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful
"Another pine-box tune to fill the cemetery day another stay A touch of orange over purgatory gray" look back to the very frist day you met paramore, all the good and bad moments that inspired you to listen to this band, all the videoclips you watched, all the songs you sang along to, let this feeling fill you whole. Now read this sentence again. It broke my heart
In any case please let me know if there's more I can give you If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful This last line stings so bad. It hits me right to the core everytime I hear it.
EXACT LYRICS FROM BOOKLET This is how they're written in the album's booklet: Another brick-red room, another black-top town, another misspelled band burning their own houses down, another pine-box tune to fill the cemetery day another stay, a touch of orange over purgatory gray, another thorny field to scatter fruitless seed, another song that runs too long God knows no-one needs more misguided ghosts, more transparent hands to drop a nickel in our basket and we'll do our riot! dance beneath another burning sky, behind our painted lips in scare of catatonic of smile-covered ankle-bitten ships so throw your pedestal of stone in the forgetful sea as protection from the paper-thin perfection you project on me when this repetition ends behind the window shades, a semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I've made, that most unrestful bed, that most original of sins and you'll say that's what I get when I let ambition win again I'd hate to let you down so I'll let the waters rise and drown my dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes back in a cast bit-part, back when I felt most free, I had a butcher's heart and no one thought they knew me so before the regiment resumes, before the dreaded sun appears, my driver's waiting so let's make one point crystal clear: you see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design, I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine
How can you combine one of my favorite bands ever with one of my lately favorite music genres? 😌 no matter how much I love Hayley's voice, I just can't stop listening to this song. Just can't 🙈
"I let go of the coat but the coat wont let go of me. In any case please let me know if there's more i can give you, if nothing comes of it...then just know we are grateful."

"I have no idea what's going on but I'm excited" - me listening to this song
Daniele Mengue A Chandler's quote to describe a Paramore song. You, girl, are my new best friend forever.
Daniele Mengue yeah, I'm feeling so hight
The guy talking in the video is from a band called "mewithoutyou". Hayley has also been featured in some of there music.
I knew it, when I first listened to it I was like I swear this is the guy from mewithoutyou
Daniele Mengue THAT WERE MY EXACT THOUGHTS XDD
OLD PARAMORE SONGS / NO FRIEND
1) Let The Flames Begin: "This is how we’ll stand when they burn our houses down."
No Friend: "Another misspelled band burning their own houses down."
2) Future: lasts 7:52
No Friend: "Another song that runs too long."
3) Misguided Ghosts: "We are just misguided ghosts travelling endlessly." y Looking Up: "God knows the world doesnt need another band"
No Friend: "God knows no one needs more misguided ghosts."
4) Riot album in general but also Fast In My Car: "We have out riot gear on but we just want to have fun."
No Friend: "A nickle in our basket and we’ll do our riot! dance."
5) Anklebiters: "You know anklebiters ate up your personality."
No Friend: "In scores of catatonic smile covered anklebiten ships."
6) When It Rains: "You made yourself a bed at the bottom of the blackest hole."
No Friend: "A semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I’ve made."
7) That’s What You Get: "That's what you get when you let your heart win."
No Friend: "And you’ll say that’s what I get when I let ambition win."
8) For a Pessimist I’m Pretty Optimistic: "I’m not so naive my sorry eyes can see."
No Friend: "In the naive expectation in your eyes."
9) Tell Me It's Okay: "Now when the sun is out I’m not afraid to feel it shine on me."
No Friend: "Before the dreaded sun appears."
YEs yes yes!
i know it's on the same album but idle worship also has the line "i'd hate to let you down" which is repeated word for word in no friend. this also links with no friend being an outro to idle worship.
Jesús Sierra another reference maybe . 'Fake Happy' Draw my lipstick wider than my mouth
'No friend' Beneath another burning sky, behind our painted lips
i honestly thought i was the only one who picked up on this
I put down a few references in my long interpretation post, but you found a few that I missed as well.
The lyrics are buried in the mix
IS SUCH A GOOD SONG OMFG
I agree completly and that's why I think No Friend should be the closing track, embodies all the album work!
@@carolbp13 I think Tell Me How is a perfect closing track as it is. That very last line, "I can still believe...." to me portrays a sense of hope to make it out of the hard times & the darkness
First ever paramore song without Hayley singing??? Woah
Riley Thomas I see what you did there
Carys Luther 🤘😎👉
It's a song from another band that Hayley was featured in. It's Fox's Dream of the Log Flume.
+Nick (Nick) oh boy here we go again.... I didn't need to sleep or anything it's fine hahaha 😂😂😂
that is one beautiful song.
Lyrics (from the album booklet, for anyone who wants them)
Another brick red room
another black top town
another misspelled band
burning their own houses down
another pine box tune to fill the cemetery day
another stay a touch of orange over purgatory grey
another thorny field to scatter fruitless seed
another song that runs too long
god knows no one needs more misguided ghosts,
more transparent hands to drop a nickel in our basket
and we’ll do our riot dance beneath another burning sky
behind our painted lips in scares of catatonic smile-covered, ankle-bitten ships
so throw your pedestal of stone in the forgetful sea
as protection from the paper-thin perfection you project on me
when this repetition ends behind the window shades
a semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I’ve made
that most unrestful bed, that most original of sins
and you’ll say that’s what I get when I let ambition win again
I’d hate to let you you down so I’ll let the waters rise
and drown my dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes
back in a cast bit-part, back when I felt most free
I had a butchers heart and no one thought they knew me
so before the regiment resumes
before the dreaded sun appears
my driver’s waiting so let’s make one point crystal clear;
you see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design
I’m no saviour of yours and you’re no friend of mine
Oh damn, this seems like a direct message to fans and media. It's sad to think she felt this way too long so she had to turn it into a song to be listened to.
Yeah I was pretty shocked when I first read through the lyrics. You can tell that she's had trouble being on a pedestal for as long as she has.
sydney sometimes does stuff It's like references from their previous songs / album (part II, misguided ghosts, riot, ankle biter, that's what you get, etc) and translated into something gory
anknen12 And the fact that she wasn't the one who sang it says a lot.
I thought the lyrics on this album weren't up to par with their previous songs but bloody hell these are incredible.
Too much yes to this!
we need to know they are humans, they meke "stupid" mistakes too... love their songs is one thing, follow them on social media... but think they have a perfect life, man, that is bu****t
Same. Same same same same same
Where are u from?
Pure love
Armor
😱
i was waiting for the song to start for 2 minutes and realized this is the whole song LOOL
me to me to
Amblibaba // Hiatus it's just an outro for Idle Worship
OMG I DID THAT THE FIRST TIME I LISTENED TO IT TOO
Priestess- - * the same 😂😂
Hahahaha same here!
The first part (spoken one, almost inaudible) is the letter that Hayley wrote to Aaron explaining to him what Idle Worship was about. These are lyrics (it's very low on the mix):
Found these old letters from years ago felt it was fitting to continue that correspondence.
Well said!!! I couldn't agree more
If you look up the lyrics, this song is actually pretty deep and emotional. Knowing a bit of the history of paramore, I felt the pain this song is trying to convey. I found the delivery of the singer, especially the "YOU'RE NO FRIEND OF MINE" part very powerful. I see it's probably an unpopular opinion but this track is one of my favorites in this album.
KittyMafia loves you agreed! couldn't have said it any better
at first i didn't like this song, but now it is one of my favourites
It's because the lyrics are written by Aaron Weiss himself. Perhaps the greatest lyricist of our time. See mewithoutyou's other songs, you'll agree
"I see a shirt design" = she sees Paramore shirts, that's how she identifies them, it scares her/
"I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine" = shes not what they think she is, not a hero just a girl who can't save everyone, who's job is to sing not to be a savior, she doesn't know them like they think she does - they are not friends.
------------------------------------
I thought the reason she didn't sing this herself andthe reason its so hard to hear is because shes so afraid of it, the truth.
It's so full of emotion, anger, despair and the last parts of the song make me sad and realize this is what hayley felt and lots of people didn't understand
a ton of people are complaining about not being able to hear, maybe that was purposeful. i can't make out some things and although i got a huge wave of creepy vibes, i honestly admire this. also, the idea of Aaron being on this track instead of Hayley could mean something. considering her favorite band is mewithoutyou, and that this is an outro to Idle Worship, this could be Aaron kinda talking to Hayley about being an idol to her, and that he's not a superhuman himself. maybe having Hayley practice what she preaches?? not sure.. maybe i'm just weird.
can make out**
Abnormal Joy *aaron
Ella thanks, i thought it was just my brain at 1am thinking nonsense haha
ROXANA PF i feel dumb, sorry i was tired and wasn't exactly thinking correctly😂
Obviously it's on purpose... I'd still like to hear the lyrics though :)
This is surprising. Track 11 is a rather dark instrumental in an album that dwells and has the perfect balance of both light and dark and a beautiful realistic perspective on life. Love it.
"I'm no savior of yours, and you're no friend of mine"
Daniel Rivera Well said
I don't think you're supposed to hear it.
I think this song is about Jeremy Davis (at least that's what makes sense to me), but that's a really good perspective you got there!
and Aaron is perfect to deliver such feeling.
Yeah, fans (we) are very stupid, always waiting everything from them and they don't have to do that. They just do the music, we should only hear it. I'm feeling guilty, but at least I learned the lesson.
Sorry for this basic English.
+Isabella Drew Either him or Josh Farro. I'd lean towards the latter, personally, as Tell Me How is also about him.
It sounds like he’s sealing a fate when he says them
Just cause Hayley ain't singing doesn't mean it's a Bad song I actually really like this
Liz hedrick I love it!
coolbanana165 I personally like music like this so it pleases me a lot. I can see how some may not like it, but it does add something different to the album
coolbanana165
Ya. Actually being able to hear the lyrics without making yourself go deaf would of been nice.
Mr Independent Yeah; I like the idea of the quiet vocals, but they take it too far. Should have started at the levels it hits in the middle.
the lyrics are supposed to be difficult to hear, have you seen what they actually say?
That moment when in the song Aaron mention: "Misguided Ghosts" "Riot!" "That's What I get when I let ambition win" and "I hate to let you down (Part of Idle Worship)" in this song
and anklebiters
and "burning our own houses down" (let the flames begin) and "god knows we don't need" (looking up).
in case you haven’t heard, we made an album. listen to After Laughter
smarturl.it/afterlaughter
Paramore, I love you people! Tell me how to feel about you now.
Paramore :')
Paramore AND IT'S AMAZING😭😍😍
Paramore why anyone see this??
The best song on the album. Hands down. The mix is very different. But lyrically, one of the best Paramore songs ever written. The message is so heavy and it pains me that they’ve gotten to this point of conversation. I cannot even begin to comprehend the complexity of this piece and how it came to be. It’s pure magic.
Go listen to mewithoutYou!!!
It wasn't written by Paramore though.
[Spoken Intro: Aaron Weiss]
These old letters from years ago
I felt it was leading to a continued
[...] I hope this is helpful for you. [...]
When I wrote this letter I felt I may have been finally able to address how it feels
[Verse: Aaron Weiss]
Another brick-red room, another black-top town
Another misspelled band burning their own houses down
Another pine-box tune to fill the cemetery day
Another star, a touch of orange over purgatory gray
Another thorny field to scatter fruitless seed
Another song that runs too long, God knows no one needs
More misguided ghosts, more transparent hands
To drop a nickel in our basket and we'll do our riot! dance
Beneath another burning sky, behind our painted lips
In scores of catatonic smile-covered ankle-bitten ships
So throw your pedestal of stone in the forgetful sea
As protection from the paper-thin perfection you project on me
When this repetition ends behind the window shades
A semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I've made
That most unrestful bed, that most original of sins
And you'll say that's what I get when I let ambitions win again
I'd hate to let you down so I'll let the waters rise
And drown my dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes
Back in a cast bit-part, back when I felt most free
I had a butcher's heart and no one thought they knew me
So before the regiment resumes, before the dreaded sun appears
My driver's waiting, so let's make one point crystal clear:
You see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design
I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine
You're no friend of mine
You're no friend of mine
I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine
You see a flood-lit form
I see a shirt design
I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine
[Outro: Aaron Weiss]
I see myself in the reflection of people's eyes
Realising that what they see may not be even close to the image I see in myself
And I hate I might actually be more afraid
[...] I feel like they know the story
I saw a bear floating in the river and thought it was a fur coat
Twelve years ago I stood on the shore
Jump in and grab the coat
And the river is rushing toward a waterfall
And my friend stood at the shore and shouted to let go of the coat and swim back to land
I let go of the coat but the coat won't let go of me
In any case please let me know if there's more I can give you
If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful
Wow wow wow wow wow. ONE HELL OF A MESSAGE.
the drums are so tasteful in this track, never overpowering the message but still conveying the sense of urgency
Just do it, it's good.
yes i was ready to say so myself ! you go people go and be amazed!
Caleb James the best mewithoutyou song
The 'Pale Horses' album is my favourite out of their entire body of music, oh and 'January 1979' is an amazing song, too. I'm a new fan, thanks to Hayley. Glad she's spreading the word and helping to promote them. I like that they embrace different genres. They reminded me of 'Hotel Books' but less 'emo'.
Thank you so much for the recommendation James! I love Fox's Dream so much right now and a bunch of other songs by MeWithoutYou
Caleb James that song made fall in love with mewithoutyou, it's a great one, i love it
I like the speaking in the background, it adds to the whole feel of the song, i like it a lot
At first I wasn't a fan, but this song is amazing. Reminds me of Pink Floyd.
It's so deep, it makes me feel sad.
The instruments and beat in this fucking song. No words.
this is amazing and intense
For not saying a word, this is the one song she screams in.
I'VE NEVER CLICKED A NOTIFICATION SO FAST
Jhosselyn Molero I preordered and better be ready at midnight ha
jajajajajja So do I
The outro to Idle Worship! The whole Idle Worship + No Friend is like the 'Future' of this album!
Aarons Letter Intro
Found these old letters from years ago
Felt it was fitting to continue that correspondence
Can’t help I’m sentimental
Thanks for talking with me today, I hope this is helpful for you
I also hope that Birdie is happy and healthy and staying out of trouble to a reasonable extent
What I wrote was sort of my way of finally being able to address how it feels to have [spoken under verse] anyone look at you as anything but the human you are,
Good and bad
For me, mostly bad
A lot of girls would come up to me before or after a show
And tell me I’m perfect or that they want to be like me
And, well, I realized that maybe it’s some melodramatic version
Of what they may truly feel
What I really hear is “you can do no wrong in my eyes”,
At that point I’m not even thinking about my
Interaction with them anymore, my mind is just reeling
I’m thinking about how much my insides are a complete contrast
To what is being projected onto me
There were so many seemingly horrible things happening last year
I just wanted to die
I didn’t even feel like what I was doing was useful anymore
We couldn’t even keep ourselves healthy,
Let alone spread any sort of hopeful message
It felt embarrassing to be trapped inside myself
And think I had a purpose
None of these things even begin to scratch the surface of faith and God, and where my head was at with that reality
I had nothing else to rely on, no ego, no relationships I trusted
And no hope
And these times I had envisioned hope as a little pinprick of light
Down a long, long dark tunnel
And this time there was no tiny light, nothing
So I just thought about future and death
My whole life I’ve been trying to make people feel better
But I can’t even make myself feel better
It’s hard to think that we’re about to head back out
Into the wild, after being in a safe cocoon for nearly two years
oh shit, is the entire letter under the actual song? Aaron strikes again
@@moosesnWoopI think it's in the beginning where there is mumbling spoken lyrics that are hard to hear.
If you set it on loop, the loop is so smooth, I love it
"In any case please let me know if there's more i can give you, if nothing comes of it, just know we are greatful"
Lyrical genius
I love spoken words, I love the band's idea! I want more tracks like this in modern music.
Listen to mewithoutyou. That’s the band of the guy singing on this track.
Another brick-red room
Another black-top town
Another mispelled band, burning their own houses down
Another pine-box tune to fill the cemetery day
Another star, a touch of orange over purgatory gray
Another thorny field to scatter fruitless seed
Another song that runs too long
God knows no one needs more misguided ghosts
More transparent hands to drop a nickel in our basket and we'll do our riot dance
Beneath another burning sky, behind our painted lips in scares of catatonic smile-covered ankle-bitten ships
So throw your pedestal of stone in the forgetful sea as protection from the paper-thin
Perfection you project on me
When this repetition ends behind the window shades
A semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I've made
That most unrestful bed, that most original of sins
And you'll say that's what I get when I let ambition win again
I'd hate to let you down so I'll let the waters rise and drown
My dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes
Back in a cast bit-part, back when I felt most free
I had a butcher's heart and no one thought they knew me
So before the regiment resumes, before the dreaded sun appears
My driver's waiting so let's make one point crystal clear:
You see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design
But I'm no saviour of yours and you're no friend of mine
You're no friend of mine, you're no friend of mine
I'm no saviour of yours and you're no friend of mine
You see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design
I'm no saviour of yours and you're no friend of mine
I see myself in the reflection of people's eyes
Realising what they see may not be even close to the image I see in myself
And I hate I might actually be more afraid
[...] I feel like they know the story
I saw a bear floating in the river and thought it was a fur coat
Twelve years ago I stood on the shore
Jump in and grab the coat
And the river is rushing toward a waterfall
And my friend stood at the shore and shouted to let go of the coat and swim back to land
I let go of the coat, but the coat won't let go of me
In any case please let me know if there's more I can give you
If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful
this is honestly some of the realist shit i've ever heard. This was fucking art and I just want to say thank you
The lyrics, including the spoken parts !

[Verse: Aaron Weiss]
Another brick-red room, another black-top town
Another misspelled band burning their own houses down
Another pine-box tune to fill the cemetery day
Another star, a touch of orange over purgatory gray

[Spoken Outro: Aaron Weiss]
…To see myself in the reflection of people's eyes
Realizing that what they see may not even be close to the image I see in myself
And I think I might actually be more afraid to let my own self down than anything else
I feel like the man in the story who saw a bear floating in the river and thought it was a fur coat
Twelve years ago, I stood on the shore and jumped in and grabbed the coat
The river was rushing toward a waterfall
And my friend stood on the shore and shouted to let go of the coat and swim back to land
I let go of the coat, but the coat won't let go of me
In any case, please let me know if there's more I can give you
If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful
I Wasn't expecting this at all, but I love it, it has such a deep lyrics
I love how the instrumental takes over. Dominates. It's okay to hear it in the background, feels like I'm marching in a crowd at a protest or something. Sounds like loudspeakers at a rally.
From the lyrics, it ties into the album that Hayley features on, Ten Stories. Maybe these two bands shared something interesting together, or at least Hayley and Aaron.
I fucking love how they're not afraid to push boundaries and do their own thing. An unconventional song but a great one
its garbage
just4kiksXd dubs music taste is bad and he should feel bad.
damn..
this song, no words
"Realizing what they see may not even be close to the image I see in myself"
love how the lyrics of this song contain bits and pieces of other paramore songs ❤️
at first I was like, okay every album has a bad egg
then I started listening to the first 30 seconds
now i love it, it really grows on you
I went to Paramore's Jakarta concert last Saturday.
This is one of my favorites. Once you listen to the lyrics it's really powerful also the best is killerrr
what does the song mean
There goes Paramore making albums that explain my soul again
This song is probably the deepest song on the album band wise. Like Dear gosh!!
That drumming.. Man I love zac.
I always took the buried vocals to represent their thoughts that they're afraid to say out loud. Especially since these lyrics are geared towards fans, like they don't want to offend fans or seem ungrateful. But it's something that's been on their mind for a long time and it needs to break out.
holy shit I wasn't ready for this, I'm not completely sure I understand it (english is not my first language), but I love this already
This makes me really sad. Its unbelievable brave to share this emotions you guys did a very good job to show them to the listener. My heart hurts and my ears are pleased. Just..thank you.
I'M NO SAVIOUR OF YOURS, YOURE NO FRIEND OF MINE! DAMN THIS SONG 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
If there are no victors in war, the only thing you're left with is a draw.
LYRICS:
Another thick red beam
Another black-top town
Another misspelled band burning their own houses down
Another pine-box tomb to fill the cemetery dead
Another star, a touch of orange over purgatory grey
Another void to fill
Just scattered fruitless seed
Another song I wrote that's too long
God knows no one needs
More misguided ghosts, more transparent hands
We'll drop a nickel in our basket and we'll do our riot dance
Beneath another burning sky, behind our parented verses
Scores of catatonic smile covered assholes in a ship
Layered by the school, so you can definitely see
Can you forget these things?
Perfection from the paper thief
Perfection you project on me
Behind the window shades
I'm semi-conscious, already sleepin' in the bed I made
That most unrestful bed, that most original sin
What they act when I let ambition win
I'd hate to let you down
Thrown in a web with all his lies
Drown my dull reflection in a naive expectation arise
Back in the casket park
Back when I felt most free
I few a picture and nowhere God they knew me
So before the wretched men resume
Before their dreaded son appears
My driver's waiting
So let's make one thing crystal clear
You see a fraudulent form
I see a shirt design
I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine
You're no friend of mine
You're no friend of mine
I'm no savior of yours, you're not friend of mine
You see a fraudulent form
I see a shirt design
I'm no savior of yours, you're no friend of mine
I see myself in the reflection of people's eyes
Realizing what they see may not be even close to the image I see in myself
And I think I might actually be more afraid
I feel like they know the story
I saw a bear floating in the river and thought it was a fur coat
Twelve years ago, I stood on the shore
Jumped in and grabbed the coat
And the river is rushing toward a waterfall
And my friend stood at the shore and shouted to let go of the coat
And swim back to land
I let go of the coat but the coat won't let go of me
In any case please let know if there's more I can give you
If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful
Damn, Aaron is spitting fire. He is Letting The Flames Begin
My favorite song on after laughter tbh
That beat change up from Idle Worship to No Friends is pure beauty. Definitely hit different
IM SCREAMINGG AHHHH
"God knows no one needs more misguided ghosts" ...I was not expecting this. Really. Omg. Totally love it
ok so just straight up poetry on this one 👌👌👌👌👌
I'm not your savior and you are not friend of mine...i like this part so much emotion
this song is like the ghost of paramore's pop punk side
I find this extremely good and deeply unsettling at the same time
my dad likes this song cos it can be interpreted in many ways. i love this song cos it's so different to the music we hear nowadays
This will always be the most interesting thing Paramore will ever do.
This song fucks me up. No one realises the meaning behind it. It's so sad :(
Holy Hecc I am sooo in love with how dynamic this whole album isss
literally danced around the room when these notifications came through.
"Another pine-box tune to fill the cemetery day another stay
A touch of orange over purgatory gray"
look back to the very frist day you met paramore, all the good and bad moments that inspired you to listen to this band, all the videoclips you watched, all the songs you sang along to, let this feeling fill you whole. Now read this sentence again.
It broke my heart
In any case please let me know if there's more I can give you
If nothing comes of it, then just know we are grateful
This last line stings so bad. It hits me right to the core everytime I hear it.
So many of their song references on such a heavy track. y is this so slept on
This drums is fucking paramooooore 💚
YEAPPP
Zac really is back ♥
IT'S SO ZAAAAACC!!!!
*This* music *is* good. *The* drums *are* Paramore.
one of the best things about paramore is the fact that they use actual acoustic drums, and that the part is actually interesting and fun to play
The songs titles says everything about my life. This is my jam.
who the fuck disliked it already wtf This is gold
Winners of the talent show👏
EXACT LYRICS FROM BOOKLET
This is how they're written in the album's booklet:
Another brick-red room, another black-top town, another misspelled band burning their own houses down, another pine-box tune to fill the cemetery day another stay, a touch of orange over purgatory gray, another thorny field to scatter fruitless seed, another song that runs too long God knows no-one needs more misguided ghosts, more transparent hands to drop a nickel in our basket and we'll do our riot! dance beneath another burning sky, behind our painted lips in scare of catatonic of smile-covered ankle-bitten ships so throw your pedestal of stone in the forgetful sea as protection from the paper-thin perfection you project on me when this repetition ends behind the window shades, a semi-conscious sorrow sleeping in the bed I've made, that most unrestful bed, that most original of sins and you'll say that's what I get when I let ambition win again I'd hate to let you down so I'll let the waters rise and drown my dull reflection in the naive expectation in your eyes back in a cast bit-part, back when I felt most free, I had a butcher's heart and no one thought they knew me so before the regiment resumes, before the dreaded sun appears, my driver's waiting so let's make one point crystal clear: you see a flood-lit form, I see a shirt design, I'm no savior of yours and you're no friend of mine
AARON WEISS ON A PARAMORE ALBUM MY LIFE IS COMPLETE!!!!! (would kill to see this live)
My personal favourite of the album
it's so cool Aaron's on this, he's amaaazing
Even without Hayley singing, it's still a good song. That's how amazing Paramore are.
TALK ABOUT GOLD
This is amazing. I love how dark it is. Definitely one of my favourite tracks from the album.

It's a shame this is the least listened to song, yet the lyrics are so much more powerful...
this is a fucking masterpiece
How can you combine one of my favorite bands ever with one of my lately favorite music genres? 😌 no matter how much I love Hayley's voice, I just can't stop listening to this song. Just can't 🙈
this audio rocks!
OMG, THE TAYLOR'S VOICE
It's actually aaron from mewithoutyou
Is it the instrumental version of Idle Worship or like the second part of it?
Sammy Anthony is the outro to Idle Worship
3:05-3:22 chills
THIS SONG IS REALLY RARE...
"I let go of the coat but the coat wont let go of me. In any case please let me know if there's more i can give you, if nothing comes of it...then just know we are grateful."
unpopular opinion: this is the best song off of after laughter
