Nicely done Bud!! Never seen a Steel Bob, they were always Brass!!☻
Thanks RoadKing! The quality ones are brass....
That Bob was GONE! Glad to see it found its way into your hands! Awesome! 😃👍
Thanks ScoutCrafter! I get a kick out of working on the goners!
I have yet to come across a plumb bob that I couldn’t get to work. Great job.
Thanks! It was a fun project!
There was a Robert that I knew. He could stand up straight, but he prefered to just lay down. Even when you could get him to stand up, it wasn't for long
"Hi Chucky Bird" 😇. You made her little day Magdad. My wife has recently taken up Crocheting, I believe our own Chucky Bird is in out future!❤
I'm glad she saw it! Have your wife and daughter watch the video I did on Mrs Magdad's crochet creations:

Magdad, Chuck, and Flitz. What a great way to start my morning!
The three best friends a rusty forgotten tool ever had...
There’s nothing like seeing the results that quickly, I have a couple of brass plumb bobs that really looked good after only about 30 minutes of work…great video!
Thanks John! Brass plumb bobs are fun to polish!
Good call on bluing the cap. Great Look.
Thanks Dale!
Beautiful restoration as always Magdad. I had no idea it had been 4 years. Thanks Magdad for all the video's you have shared with us.
Thanks Michael! Those belts lasted a long time!
Ole Chuck even has a fan club!
Nice work, trash to treasure for sure.
Thanks! Chuck has an "official" fan club. Email me if you want to join.

Love the contrast between the polished steel and the blued finish. Great job!
Thanks! Me too!
It's a beaut now Magdad! One of those satisfaction guaranteed jobs!
Thanks Vic! It was a satisfying project!
"Plum Bob square pants" lol, anyway that came out better than factory new, well done. Chucky Bird, Love that.
Thanks! Chuck loves his new nickname!
A terrific before and after. Very well done. Breaking in the medium conditioning belt looked like it gave you a good workout.
Nice touch of bluing the end cap. I like the contrast.
Dave.
Thanks Dave! They musta added extra glue to that medium belt!
Bought my Red Label belts after your original video. They are still in great shape.
That's great William! I'm glad they are working out for you!
I have an affinity for plumb bobs as well, although I kind of have to force myself to use one. Another informative video, and beautiful finished item. Some well spent time on the project.
Thanks Eric!
You have such great even balance when you refinish round or cylindrical objects. Very impressive!
Thanks! I get a lot of practice...
That was a nice project. It turned out awesome. Thank You for sharing!!!
Thanks Jack!
Was a surveyor when I was younger was instrument man an the plumb bobs were always brass ! The ones we had anyways. Thanks MAG DAD
The quality ones are brass...
Quite a transformation! I always grab plumb bobs at sales if cheap, something about them I like. Thanks
Thanks Tony! Me too!
Patience is a virtue you possess! Sorry about viewing so late but I was on vacation in Alabama. Now I’m back and as always appreciate your videos!
Thanks Steve! I hope you had a good vacation!
Wow. Great job. If I saw that on a table I would not have given it a second look. Not anymore. It came out great.
Thanks Mike! It's fun bringing back the ones that seem too far gone.
Very nice, Magdad! You did an excellent job bringing that mistreated Plumb Bob back to life. 👍
Thanks!
Nice little restoration. You got it to come out nice looking and the contrasted bluing on the cap was a nice touch, and of course Chucks polishing supervision put it over the top, thanks for the video, enjoyed watching.
Thanks Terry! Chuck loves to make stuff shiny!
“I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find my plumb b-CHUUCCKKKK!”
Another great restoration Magdad.
Thanks Sue! At least Chuck helped shine it back up!
357MD, You continue to be my favorite Knife Tuber/ tool restorations expert!!! Merry Christmas to all Family and "Chucky Bird"!! 🙏👍🎄💯🔥🗡️
Thanks! Merry Christmas!
I bought my Red Label belts last year after watching one of your videos. I use them often.
That's great Michael! I'm glad you like them!
Thanks Magdad, what an amazing transformation, that plumb bob looked beyond help, but you did a great job in saving it ! I have a set of the Conditioning belts on my Christmas list so hopefully someone will get me some to try, they've certainly lasted well for you and given great results !
Thanks Andy! It was fun bringing it back from "too far gone"!
Good morning Magdad. You got right to the point on this one‼️😂
Thanks! LOL
Great video and I love the red label belts thanks for the information 👍👍👍
Thanks Brian!
Those are great tips on getting started with those belts for people considering a purchase. Great looking end result.
Thanks Gary! I've had great success with them.
Hey !Bonjour Magdad vraiment une très belle restauration, vu l'état de ce fil à plomb. La, il est superbe très brillant et la petite touche de noir sur le dessus made in Magdad génial. ❤
Thanks Patrick! The blued cap provided a nice contrast to the polished steel.
Your skill at this is enhanced by your patience, something I lack. Well done as always.
I agree
Thanks! Mrs Magdad says I'm relentless....
Hey Magdad! I received a surprise package today! Chuck's holiday photo is on the fridge! Thank You and have a Merry Christmas! :)
Merry Christmas! Enjoy!
Just knocking off the rust with the 80 grit belt made a world of difference. Beautiful results on the plumbob. I think when Magdad and Chuck arm themselves with sandpaper, conditioning belts and Flitz, patina doesn't stand a chance.
Thanks Pat! It was a satisfying project.
Excellent work on the plumb bob! It looks brand new. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John!
That came out fantastic, Those belts really do the trick.
Thanks! I'm glad I was able to get that new medium belt to work!
Really nice Magdad! Saved another rust treasure from the landfill. Blued cap was a nice detail. Great video!👍🏻
Thanks Mike! It was a satisfying project!
That plumb Bob looks incredible after restoration!
Thanks! It was fun making it shiny!
@@357magdad 👍
That plum bob looks fantastic! I have a Harbor Freight 1x30 and I just can’t get the coarse belt to turn. I tried stretching it like you first did by hand but now I’ll try the pipe method and hope that does the trick. Always love your recommendations!
Thanks Frank! The folks at Red Label actually warn HF 1x30 owners that the belts may be too stiff. I hope you can get it to run!
The blued top makes it all the more beautiful
Thanks! I thought it could use some contrast.
Well done Magdad. It looks awesome
Thanks Ivan!
Before I knew what it was I thought a window counter balance weight. My grandpa used for an anchor. Looks great.
Thanks! It has a similar shape!
Looks awesome! I like the blued cap, it really looks nice against the polished steel!
Thanks! It's a nice contrast!
nicely done! if there's a shine to be found under the rust you'll find it. good advice on the conditioning belts - my course belt is in the same predicament. 👍
Thanks Matt! I hope you get the belt to run!
Nice restore. The blueing was a great choice.
Thanks! It gives a nice contrast to the polished steel.
Looks great 👍 Nothing like a Little flitz before the holidays.
Chuck and I are planning a Flitz-mas episode!
What a great restore. Nicely done. And a good touch to blue the cap. I wouldn't have thought of that.
As an aside, this came just in time. I'm getting ready to order from Amazon so I clicked on your belts link to add them. Thanx for that.
Thanks! I hope you have as much success with the conditioning belts as I have!
Nicely done! Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
Thanks! You too!
Wow, that turned out awesome
Thanks Terry!
Great save MagDad! I bought some conditioning belts after your suggestion a few months ago, but my 1/30 will only turn the fine one after a push start. Now that I see that you had similar problems I know how to address the issue. Thanks for showing us this! I am going to try the round bar trick for sure. Beautiful job as usual!
Thanks Bill! I hope you can get the belts going!
That plumb Bob certainly looked too far gone but the Magdad magic worked and brought it back to life.
Clever idea of partial blueing of the item.
Thanks ShedMan! The basket cases are fun to work on!
First for me to see a plumb bob that was not brass but it cleaned up beautiful
Thanks Larry! The quality ones are brass...
Nice restoration 👍 looks amazing 🤩
Thanks!
A stringless plumb bob, I like it. But maybe we should now call it a plumb fell. I love it. I'm going to get the Red Conditioning belts right after I get the 1x30 sander. Thanks.
Thanks! A 1x30 machine would be a handy addition to your shop.
Looks great now, you really resurrected it. At a glance it looks like a dead center for a mini lathe minus the morse tapper 😂.
Thanks! It does!
I thought I was Chuck’s biggest fan :-)
Chuck has fans everywhere!
Hơ awesome, such a great restoration 👍👍
Thanks!
That thing looks great!
Thanks!
I have an ancient Roman plumb bob, with an attachment top just like yours. It's made of bronze. The attachment point isn't screwed in, of course; it's simply cast. It would be interesting to know how the thread was tied on in order to make it hang true. A plumb bob, of course, is going to work anyway, whether restored or not. A bit of rust or ancient patina won't prevent it from responding to gravity, even after two thousand years!
That's a great item you have Mark! I think the Roman stone mason would have tied a loop so that the plumb bob was free to hang true.
Nice video.
Thanks!
That plumb Bob sure was rusted, must have sat in salt water. Beautiful restoration, looks great. I guess plumb Bob’s your uncle. You belted that one out of the park, literally belted it.
Thanks Larry! I love the puns!
You are welcome. You made such an interesting video and figured out by using new and old belts to make a beautiful finish.
One more pun like that and out you go!
He replied… “well Opun the door”
:-D
Bob’s your Uncle
Well done, sir !!! But....what will Chuck be using for an anchor, now ???
Thanks Steve! I'll give him a Chinese made wrench...
Turn out very nice thank you for the video
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Great job, looks fantastic. Put that thing in a potato launcher and you could take out one of the mysterious drones flying over your part of the country! 🤣🤣
Thanks David! We were out Christmas shopping tonight and spent a lot of time looking up for drones!
Looks great. Now you need to attach a string to see if it hangs straight.🤭
Thanks!
Hi, check the capacitor in your belt sander.
The sander is OK. The Conditioning belts are stiff. Red Label warns folks that have the Harbor Freight machines that the belts may not work.
Will it still plumb and bob?
Like a champ!
(SPOILER ALERT) Coincidentally, today’s Wordle solution is “plumb.”
That is a coincidence!
Funny how the cap threads were not seized, odd how deeply corroded the shaft was but the taper point was NOT rusted away. Blued cap is nice, why not blue the “bob” to help protect it as well.
If that cap didn't come off it would have stayed a rusted mess. Cold blue is more for looks than protection. Check out my bluing comparison test:

You should change your channel name to "The Junk Whisperer"! 😂😂😂
I get a kick out of working on junk!
Winter? Dry Air? Sanding metal on your machine? If you didn’t use your zapper wrist strap, I’m coming over to wire you up, so your body can provide enough electricity to equip my house for a week….😂
No zaps for me! I was wearing my anti-static wrist strap.
Schweeet!
Thanks Larry!
Dope AF results, @357magdad!
Thanks Gerald!
@357magdad Absolutely!
