- Here we see an R142A running in service on the 2 line. R142As look very similar to the R142-type cars that normally run on the 2, but they are built by Kawasaki (instead of Bombardier, which built the R142s), have slight differences in trim, and different mechanical systems. This R142A was borrowed from the 4 line. Enjoy!

The thumbnail had me thinking this was just a regular 2 train buuuut then I put my glasses on it reads R142A 😂
Good catch and you can differentiate the two which are the R142 & R142A by listening to the propulsion package since the other one is made by Bombardier using R188 & R143 propulsion for the R142A but Alstom for R142 which is in fact the same model found on R160A & R160B Alstom.
R142A needs to return on the 6! Great video bud! :)

The number 2 train has always been a main artery line in nyc like the A, E, F, N Q, L,7 ,J and 4 lines. All 24 hour first tier lines. It would be nice to see high tech cars on the whole system. A few of the cars on the C local and A lines still date back to 1968.
Don’t y’all seriously just love the fact that the (2) other train fleets, such as the R62s, R62As, and R142As? I do.

This somehow showed up on the (2) and ran it’s whole route from Flatbush to 241 via 7 Av Express, this is SUPER rare because the R142As are what make up majority of the (4) line. They run on the (4)

Cool! The last time this happened was August 2016. We need stainless steal trains because they get rusted so much. Boston Red Line has it.

hey did anyone knew there were 2 7 trains stalled in 2 stations in one day yesterday one in 82 street during morning rush hours and the other around 5:30 at 5th avenue

The Kawasaki MTA trains have the best propulsion’s IMO. Correct me if i’m wrong, I think the R142A, R143, and R188 is made by Kawasaki

I’ve seen many r142a’s on the 5 but never have I seen a single r142a train car on the 2.
iiShortz They only run on rare occasions, such as when there is no train service on the White Plains Road elevated segment between 3rd Avenue and East 180th Street (in other words, no train service between 3rd Avenue and East 180th Street).

I believe this is a converted R188, because when it opened, it sounds like a r188

However, they could get 900 new R262s in the future (450 each) while the R142s go to the 1 and 6.

Juan Dilone Nothing has been confirmed for any of the IRT lines, except that the R262s would mainly be for Lexington and 42nd.
