Thank you do much for this vid. I learned to make soap when I was in Oregon and miss that place ever since... But I still order all my ingredients from Oregon... Thank you again
In response to a soap-making question: best results are achieved with temps around 80-90 degrees, at cooler temperatures the oil/water mixture may not saponify properly and at higher temperatures it can cause a grainy soap.
I'm helping a poor village in India to make just a plain soap. What is the proportion of lye to oil? How strong is the lye? We have palm and coconut oil etc. Do I add anything else, or is that adequate for a soap? How can I speed the curing for soap just used to keep people clean. Should anything be added to make antiseptic or antimicrobial soap? We appreciate advice for our above humanitarian project. Thanks, Bob Chalice
You can find a lye converter on the internet. It all depends on which fat or oil you are using and in what proportions. Lye is very strong and if you are looking to make a disinfectant soap then you will want a little stronger lye content but not a whole lot or it will burn your skin. You can use palm and coconut oil, its fine you dont need anything but oil (fat), water, and lye. Thats it. The curing process cant be sped up, however you can use the soap immeadiately it will just dissolve faster.
Hypocrite. If you were concerned about the environment you'd not have anything shipped a thousand or more miles, but as close as possible, and use what is grown close by. Additionally Carbon is a necessary element and it makes plants and trees grow better. If that weren't so greenhouses that produce food wouldn't fill their houses each evening with the expensive gas.
I have been buying my soap from this guy for years. I met him at his little booth at the Saturday Market in downtown Portland, a very cool guy.

To speed the curing process it would be best to Hot Process instead of Cold.
Maybe you should know how to make soap. You are lacking basic knowledge.
