that gliss was so clean you could eat off it
Shea Johnson You win the internet
Do people actually call it a gliss
Colonel Cringe Yes, it's either called that or the actual name of glissando.
*off of it*
The pianist behind him raising his eyebrows, pretty well saying "Not bad kid!"
This isn't a solo with accompaniment, it's a duet
A duet with himself
That’s because the piano is the original solo instrument, and they turned the orchestra into another one, trumpet(s).
(Obviously it will have been a bit more complicated to get it working, but that is the general idea of what they did.)
True collaboration
It’s better than that, it’s a father and son duet
I love the look of pride on your Dads face after the picc gliss in the beginning.
I would be a proud dad as well!!!
"That's my boy."
John PEARSON How just how
John PEARSON I’m with Ethan on this like what
John PEARSON you’re crazy man this was great!
Its funny that the trumpet is like the primary focus of the performance even though the pianist is going ham on the solo piano part, which is insanely difficult
JameyPlaysTheViolin The piccolo trumpet is supposed to be insanly hard to play.
theo smith if you’ve played trumpet for a while it’s not as difficult as when you play it with no experience
Steven’s Railway Wow
Steven’s Railway Obviously, but that’s kind of the point. The piccolo trumpet is insanely hard to play, so clearly this guy has a ton of experience.
theo smith I have played trumpet since I was 6 and I have a picc, so I can confirm that it’s hard to make it not sound like absolute shit
Love how Rich never turns past the first page
I don't even think that's the right music lol
william's right, it's not even the first page of the rhapsody. Rich's just a beast.
There was a point at like 7:00 where I was just enjoying his playing and I realized he hadn’t turned the page in like a solid minute. I rewatched again to find that he doesn’t even give a shit about the pages, he KILLED it and that was straight from his heart.
I mean it's not that uncommon to memorize something you've put a lot of time into learning.
hans hansen that doesn’t make it any less impressive
I was sitting here thinking...man who is this beast of a pianist accompanying him?? It's totally his dad...crazy talented family!
Sunday dinner at their house must be nuts!
Piano players that can get through the piece without making a mistake is impressive enough. Using the different horns to play the orchestration melody is pretty cool.
Heard a mistake in the beginning sections.
mistake at 2:10 ;)
@@mef u dumb? Mac tek is talking about a major mistake that would ruin the piece. A simple slip of the finger when quickly doing chords isnt considered a mistake😂. In fact, according to your logic, ur basically stating that every pianist has never played perfectly.
@John PEARSON let's see u do it. Post a vid and let's see how u sound lol
@John PEARSON What a silly little troll you are, lol !
interesting looking clarinet at the start...
It is piccolo trumpet sir )
Andrey Okhrimets it was a joke 🙄
Joel McAllister Kinda looks like a metal bassoon
That's a golden guitar not a clarinet
Joel McAllister dude that's a giraffe
the sheet music on the piano is purely decorative. nice to see both musicians complete knowledge of the song, really adds to the jazz.
Rindsy RoHan lol he literally never turns the page
the music is for another song! he doesn't even have the music for this song out
I think they have practiced this more than once
Lark Jones bold assumption
Or more than a zillion
UnoriginalUsername373 It was a joke
Aidan i agree with the other guy, it wasn't a very funny joke
Frankus Sealius i thought it was pretty dang funny
I don't know who I should be more impressed of the trumpeter or pianist!😂😂
Drew Shannon the pianist
yeah thats bloody hard on the piano.
Drew Shannon they are both very difficult to play in different ways and hey are both masters of their craft. So you should be equally impressed with both for putting the time and dedication to their instruments. Like I'm a trumpet player so naturally I'm more impressed with the piano because I can't do that lol I can play the trumpet parts with practice of course, and not as good, but I can do it. But I can't play the piano like that at all. I don't know I guess I'm just saying both are equally impressive.
actually I consider the piano to be quite easy, so be impressed by the trumpet
Dana Parker piano is easy?!
00:13 = proud papa
Damn, he makes that trumpet sing
Colin Jones hell yeah
Never thought that Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue could be performed as a duet. Great performance!
Typically it is played along with a clarinet, though they decided to go with trumpets for this one. Definitely recommend hearing the original.
Hell of a pianist!
Chigiskob A family full of music! Love it! Trumpet AND Piano!
@John PEARSON it was a great performance, what are you on?
@John PEARSON Are you high?
@@mazon33 He's an idiot troll. By the number of disparaging comments he's made in these comments, evidently he feels that it is his sworn duty to take this wonderful musician down a peg or two, and to make damn sure that we all know about it and his acute perceptions and refined judgments. About what miserable jealousies he harbors, one can only speculate. A pathetic little troll. How pointless, how sad: such a vacancy between his apparently defective ears; and where his heart should be: nothing.
@John PEARSON Thanks John! Made my day.
ピアノのおっちゃんの表情最高すぎるやろ
I love how the piano guy was just smiling the whole time like "gosh u r great!" And he is amazing, but just seems to be genuinely enjoying himself 1:52 2:00
oh yes playing with another player as good as you are or even better is absolutely amazing especially when you go to a smaller school and there’s only two people that have made all state in the last fifty years lol
They are father and son… ❤
Congrats on 1M! Well deserved :) So much character in such a tiny instrument! 😀
Well look who it is
Utterly superb trumpet slur at the beginning. As in... THE BEST I've ever heard. Such perfection from a brass is hard to come by on this song! IMO the song needed more trumpet throughout the major RIB themes. It is not an easy song by any means, but having the trumpet more present throughout the melody would've made this insanely incredible. God-like perhaps. Regardless, the soloists both took their time feeling this piece, and it's one of the most wonderfully soulful renditions of Rhapsody In Blue on RUclips. Well done and congratulations!
+Kory Sutherland Me, too! He's amazing!
Kory Sutherla de y C. BH..q. CT CVtt
Timofey Dokshizer. plays this song and has an amazing slur as well
you need to listen to more Maynard and other great trumpet players
Kory Sutherland Listen to Rafael Mendez.
Damn, didn't knew Ryan Gosling can jam.
Rock me, Joey Santiago. you didnt see la la land??
Harrison Ford is pretty good at the piano and all.
Rin Kokonoe dang I was gonna say the exact same thing
how did I go from watching r2d2 fucking a fax machine to this
killer120 link?
killer120 They're both art.
Is it just me... or does he look a bit like Ryan Gosling?
He looks better.
Actually, Ryan Gosling looks a little like him!
hank that is such a more polite way to make that type of comparison. Gonna bite that and start using it instead.
Ryan glissling
The 'stage presence' of these two men was excellent. They obviously enjoyed what they were doing and knew it was a gift they had to present it to us. Thank you for your dedication and for sharing your joy of life.
I can't believe how many times I hear a trumpet player making a you tube video and other trumpet players reply on how much better they are!! Get off it and enjoy other players for once. Great Job Brandon. Kudos
thus is the ego of us trumpet players. i for one applaud talent
As I trumpet player I hate reading such comments :/
Same
Valerie LiCausi to
how many trumpet players does it take to change a light bulb? Ten, one to do and and nine more to say how much better thy could have done it~! Just our nature, what can I say?? I for onde am impressed by this performance.
Love that piano player,he looks really enjoy!
That is Brandon's father.
Rich Ridenour has been a famous musician for decades, and with videos like this, he embarks on a new phase of his career - "Ah, yes, that's Brandon Ridenour's Dad."
doctorgrowl I'm sure he's (rightfully) proud to be that.
I had the privilege of watching both at the Phoenix Symphony in April, and they played this on stage. The talent and showmanship from both of these musicians is absolutely astounding - do yourself a favor and see them live if at all possible.
@Brandon, You made the trumpet, flugelhorn, piccolo trumpet playing look so effortless that only a trumpet player can fully appreciate the difficulty. Incredible performance! I am truly amazed.
トランペットの音色も最高だけど、ピアノのおじさんの顔もサイコー!
trumpet金魚 さいしょのこの人うまいでしょ?みたいな目線をお客さんにむけてるのがすこ

Holy shit both pianist and trumpeter sounds amazing!!!
hautboisjc “trumpeter”

What is amazing after hearing an incredible performance from Brandon in this song, is that he actually performed as a soloist in my state's honor band. It was extremely honoring to have such a great musician be able to solo one of our pieces in our concert. It is now that I actually realize how talented he truly is at his trumpet.
Rhapsody In Blue is one of my favorite songs and these guys really performed it well.
Dear McHenry, it's a piece.
harley it's also a song :)
i do not consider a musical composition with no official singing a song - it's a *piece* for solo piano.
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."
andrew, of course i know that. it's an orchestral piece with piano as solo instrument.
Everything about this is amazing. The precision in every note, the seamless transition between instruments, and the pianist lifting the trumpet even higher just makes me so happy.
The guy fracked one note (very impressive) and his dad gave him a reassuring “it’s alright” look afterwards. What a good dad

Wow
That gliss was bigger than my piccolo trumpet playing future
Life Has no meaning I’ve never heard that be called a gliss unless on trombone
@@texasred7408 technically a glissando. He achieved the sound by pushing all three valves half way down and bending his notes from bottom to top.
@@charlesdarwin6224 I know what a glissando is but it was called a rise when I learned it
This is the level I aspire to on both trumpet and piano. Awesome piece!
Allison Bearden same here. I worked through half score on the piano so far. What about you?
Oh I haven't even began working through it! haha. It's so intimidating!!
Yes, I agree. My left hand is hurting... 😅
Absolutely stunning control and beautifully clear tone.
I WAS IMPRESSED. THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL FATHER AND SON. GREAT!
i Love the collective happy sigh of the crowd when he hits the high note. Pure Class
I don't know if this is now my favorite performance of Rhapsody... but Jesus, it is up there for sure. Absolute awe.
Deux FORMIDABLES musiciens ouvrez bien vos yeux et vos oreilles : ce n'est pas tous les jours que vous aurez l'occasion de voir et d'entendre un truc aussi parfait que ça CHAPEAU , messieurs !!!!!
Even thought the trumpet is the star of the show I love the pianos part so much. They are both great.
音色も最高だけどピアノのおじさんの笑顔も最高
I could listen to this forever!!!! Awesome!!!!
JESUS so glad i stumbled onto this. wonderful
Love the trumpet slur at the start. You can see the pianist looking nervously at him and then when it comes out so beautifully smooth he look over to the audience like "yeah pretty impressive right?". The pride they have in each other's skills is tangible and had me almost in tears.
Well, they ARE father and son, so there's more to their relationship than just professional mutual respect
I applauded at home! Well done. Piccolo trumpet is a torture instrument to play. Rich is skilful enough to play it solo by himself, what an ensemble!
I didn't realize how nice the piccolo trumpet could sound! 👏
Nerver Heard tris on a trumpet both musicians excellent.
What a unique and talented take on this piece. I think of it as a trio, piano, trumpet and composer.
A BRILLIANT performance!!!!!
That gliss was astounding! But it was just the intro to how good a player he really is. What an amazingly talented family.
Congratulations dear Brandon and Rich. So proud to have meet you years before. You're great!
Thank you Lester. I hope you are doing well. We miss visiting Guatemala. Maybe someday in the future!!
I love your Dad's proud reaction in the beginning when you arrived at the note after the gliss. Makes me proud being a father.
I play this gliss all the time on my clarinet. But you made it sound so much better!
His sound on brass feels so effortless; smooth as butter.. I admire that.
Im impressed with both players. Brandon's the reason for me wanting to explore my horizons on trumpet. His dad just makes me want to practice piano ten times more than I am now. Thanks Brandon Ridenour and Rich Ridenour!
Amazing performance and arrangement. Towards the end the sound is so full you have the impression a whole orchestra is playing. I can only imagine the level of expertise and rehearsals this performance demands. Bravo!
Dad just loving it! Fun to look at!
Amazing musicians playing a piece of music that came from a place of genius. Great idea changing horns thereby changing timbre. Love it.! Bravo to both of you.
As a clarinet player who can only manage that gliss on a good day with the wind in the right direction on a tuesdsy with a full moon once in a decade..... that was amazing! 🤯
The style is spot-on! Brandon brings out so many colors you want to hear to do proper justice to Gershwin and he absolutely nails it!
Superb playing, just beautiful, both the pianist and trumpeter are splendid.
I like how the piano is shaking a lot of the time! That's how I like playing. :)
This was my high school marching band piece that we had to play. It was so fun to play :)
I’m still coming back to this masterpiece, after finished playing trumpet 10 years ago. Really love that interpretation!
What an epic performance by both musicians. I find it amazing that they both can play so well together despite not having a conductor! Being a trumpet player myself I certainly can appreciate the highly technical and difficulty level of this piece plus having to be able to switch and master the piccolo trumpet, the Bb trumpet and the flugelhorn. I've heard many renditions of this song and this will now become one of my favorites! My other favorite was the rendition done by Gordon Goodwins's Big Phat Band. Thank you for the awesome ear candy!
Pianista e trompetista, parabéns! Ambos memoráveis!!!

Excellent collaboration. These two know how to play music together and that pianist is a star. Man!! Not bad looking either... ❤
Oh man, what can I say? This is as good as it gets. Father and son?
Pure, delicious enjoyment.
We’ve all loved various orchestral renditions through the years, and will undoubtedly continue to for many more to come, but a stripped down duo rendition?
Ingenious! Fresh! Delightful! A joy!!
I seriously can't stop rewatching this
Jaw dropping. Beautiful playing, terrific arrangement. (I'm a trumpet player, BTW). I never get tired of Rhapsody in Blue, and hearing it playing on trumpet is amazing.
1:49 I wish I had a girl that looked at me like that
Sloppi Papi your mother?
fkebfpahxirvxiqpqidiehxjan not cool dude his mom died
6:27 astounding piano virtuosity!
The pianist was my favourite, just his enthusiasm and how happy he was made it. I need a piano accompaniment like you sir
They all play with so much feeling and it sounds great
Amazing as always!!
Holy crapoley, he is ONE HELL of a horn player. Jeez, the articulation
This is not music,,,"it is an adventure " love ❤
The opening bars is perfectly executed. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
I think i still prefer it on the clarinet, but the trumpet adds a colour that's not present in the clarinet sound which is really nice
Matthew Chae If it weren't originally written for clarinet, trumpet probably would've been the second choice. Soprano trumpet especially, the color is surprisingly similar.
Question: How many clarinets does it take to have an intense bon fire? Answer: Just as many as you can rustle up!
This is a beautiful piece well played by two very talented musicians. Bravo.
This dude is amazing... Been watching this same video for 5 yrs now lol
Outstanding! Thank you!
Musique sublime divine
wow!!!!!! this is super super abnormally incredible i can watch this video everyday without getting enough of it wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant! I loved it.
Oh, wow! These are 2 fine musicians! I wish I could play trumpet as well as Brandon. John.
ABSOULUTLEY BEAUTIFUL. HATS OFF TO YOU! BRILLIANT. GREAT JOB!

This is fantastic! Thank you!
Just beautiful.
I’ve legit watched this over 20 times

Magnificent! Thank you so much!
So clean, amazing
That gliss was smoother than a slightly melted polar ice cap
I'm going to try and practice 😊 more, thanks!
Gorgeous music!
Just incredible. Beautiful.
