  • We had a great visit with Paul and Mary, two American Expats living in Novi Sad Serbia. We think most of our viewers will be impressed with their budget and the cost of living in Serbia.
Mary & Paul are doing great work as volunteers, and making a positive impact in the lives of children.
If you’d like to know more about their organization, or would like to volunteer or donate, here is their link:
    propelinitiative.org/
Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along.
If your looking for a place in Europe to live or retire Serbia may be an option, stay tuned and follow along.
If you are new to AirBnB use this link to save up to register and you can save up to $65 on a qualifying stay, and we may get a $30 credit on our stays.

Julie and I retired early not by luck but by planning.
One of our spokes to our wheel for savings, and now an income stream
is Fundrise. Basically we are invested in many apartment complexes around the country.
We get a portion of the rents in the form of dividends, and growth in value with the appreciation
of the properties. We currently have selected an income REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust)
which historically pays between 7.5% - 9% annually in dividends. You can chose a balanced REIT which has a split between appreciation and dividends or a REIT where it's focused on appreciation and not dividends.
Check it out to see if it's a fit for your savings, or retirement strategy. Feel free to share this with those you feel may benefit from this program.

Even the kindest people can destroy the system. Ok, they are nice, you can't blame them for looking for good life, but, expats, particularly American, are destroying the life they come to enjoy. If more of them come there, it wold turn expensive even for them, imagine disaster for locals. Look what they've done to Ecuador so far. They turned Vilcabamba, which was a heaven on earth, into expensive fakehippieveganwesternerbullshit place, and spread it to Cuenca like a cancer on healthy body. Guys, if you are really nice, if you really like that sort of life, come as a tourist and go back, please!. Or at least, stay unnoticed in media, keep it for yourself. Warren and Julie, no matter how nice you are, you are the cancer, the biggest enemy of the life you are advertising.

@@ventilatorbgd In a way it is that way, basically if you had a steady solid income nobody in the right mind would move to the western countries.
But (big BUT) since big percent of well educated or hard working people can't find job with above average salary (since with average you can't live life without everyday stress or provide for family) it is nightmare for most of people.
For example this couple live normal life with 1390 a month, even if you remove those 450 for rent you still need 900 euros per month to cover basic living, and people here earn on average 300-500 euros, so if you add one additional member to the family (kids) it gets tricky to cover all the cost, so you get why we have the worst birth rate in Europe and have 60,000 less people in Serbia every year (+thousands that leave country).

@Nikoladin Plenty of American's have heavy debt paying high interest rates on credit cards or car loans or education loans which is a huge racket. Mortgage on a home is relatively cheap though with low interest rates. Much better to put your money into stocks than pay off a property faster. Education being bad, very few Americans learn about Interest, compounding growth, and passive income generation, which is a key element to easy financial freedom in the US that really needs to be taught as early as possible.

I live a bit of a different lifestyle from the people in this video but I moved from Portugal to Serbia in mid 2017. Not liking big cities I live in the rural countryside and rent a large 2-bdrm apt for €110/mo ($13.72US). Water and trash is another €10 ($11.88US). I use old style electric heaters when it gets real cold and just paid Feb elec bill of 4,062.13 RSD ($41.13US) I don't have a landline or cable so I only pay 1,549 RSD/mo ($15.68US) for internet. Many people what do that, they do not pay legal taxes for renting and if they are not Serbian citizens then they can not be legal owners of flat!!! Many normal, local young families, have no possibility to live in these flats for normal rent because greedy profiteers are always are always hungry on money. Hope that one day God and/or new local government will judge for that. My Serbian wife and I would like to spend half our retirement split between the Balkans(summers) and Sarasota FL(winters). I cought your video from Nov. 2019 from Kotor Montenegro, very interesting! Have you done any more videos from there about the cost of living, citizenship, visas, ect.? I would recommend Balkan expats to explore the chance of retiring there. Obviously the languages are a big berrier for Americans, but if you know any of the Slavic languages and with the cost of living in the US, it's a good option. One other thing I woul like to bring up to anyone attempting this, the cost of air travel between the Balkans and the USA. Chicago/Belgrade can run as much as $1,500 round trip during the summer. If you have to come home several times a year, this could be cost prohibitive.
