I love how DF never uses logic. DF: "This lever did nothing." Me: Flashback to every time the wrong lever rains bombs. DF: "Oh, it just happened to rain bombs as well."
Hey DF, just a tip: you ALWAYS abandon the cosmic egg (and never buy the dog biscuits), but each of them doubles the EXP your pet gets (4x together). They are soooooo useful for maxing out your pet's level early on so you can benefit from their level 3 ability. Imagine having double prayers and +1 altar usage by the Dungeon, rather than halfway through the Halls with the Sylph. Or the same with the Djinn's bonus drops at level 3. But in order to maximize the exp gains, always remember: pets gain exp for going to a new floor and for skill related actions. The canary levels up when you collect gold, the combat ones when you kill something, the Djinn every time you find a secret room, and the Sylph every time you use an altar. So if you use a dog biscuit potion after you've cleared a floor of enemies, you can (using the Djinn as an example): blow up 2-3 hidden walls, any hidden stairs, and then go to the next floor for a large exp boost to your pet. It's a phenomenal buff.

DF when you get a bomb relic pick it up and then drop it if you have a transmute bomb and it resets the amount of times you can transmute the relic. Sorry if you don’t understand this msg.

An extremely useful tip, when picking up bomb upgrades not only does it give you an extra bomb, but also resets the counter for the amount of hits the item can take before it breaks. For example, transmutagen bombs being used to change an item for the 4th time, and finding rooks bombs. Just picking it up for the extra bomb is worth it, as well as allowing the item to be reset, allowing the hit counter to go back to 0 (I also think that the max hit counter is seven for any particular item.)
Catalyst is really good for when you get items that heal either a lot or frequently, the Totem of Life works pretty well with it, and Catalyst pretty much multiplies the effectiveness of Troll Sweat by 1.5x
catalyst is amazing with things like the troll sweat (healing over time), gold tooth or basically anything that gives you a small heal for something minor
it is but I don`t like karmic scales. I don`t know if they changed it since I commented on its update notes about it literally being a dead sentence if you caught on fire or got poisoned. Fire damage would tick so fast that you couldn`t even go douse yourself, and the potion that fully healed you would become a 1 health potion. Also I don`t like how it breaks the max health related curses and blessings, would had been fun if these blessings/curses at least raised and lowered the health by 1.
After this comment next time I played I found gold tooth and Catalyst on the same floor. Beat the final boss for the first time. I also had golden popcorn conductor and gold bombs.
Nice to hear that. First time you beat him is so nice since you can buy so many upgrades that normally feel like they take forever. And yeah its an amazing healing combo, plus if you add pilfers ring the gold just comes to you in case you are in an emergency situation while fighting in a room and can`t go chasing the gold for the heals. The combo also makes the gold drop potion into a nice healing item for boss fights since pilfers don`t appear on them.
You wondered why the pilfers didn't generate in that room - if there is enough gold all around the room, they can't find a spot to spawn that has no gold on it - that's why
Item cycling is pretty different from just reloading saves. Your run is stored as a seed, that seed determines what you will see as your next item in the list. Items found in relic rooms share the same list as minor cursed bargain rooms (the ones that require a key to get into). Shop randomizes the number of relics they can have, and then picks that many out of the first 6 beyond the first item in list at random. If you want to change the relic room result, you would typically go to the shop FIRST, use the transmute altar until you see the item in the shop instead, and then go back to the relic room. You can also just reset the shop until you encounter the item, but that will take longer. This works once, in most cases, and you can only have one other result from the first you got in the relic room.
Don't know if you'll see this, but I know you do read through the comments occasionally. It looks like your toughest bosses only reset if you've defeated all three AND you go through to the end (unlocking the next stage) Side note, love the content, keep it up!
Also the scale relic from the curse guy doesnt make you deal less damage but recieve mess damage. It sets your max hp to 10 or something you only take 1 damage at a time and heal for 1 whenever you heal. It is quite powerful (as long as you dont get set on fire)
I read before that for the glitch to work you actually have to pick the item up so it isn't in that place anymore. As a reload resets your progress for the floor you will lose the relic and a new one will spawn. :')
at 13:14 he finds a shop with a kurtz stache which gives pretty alright stuff but you need to get ten curses but he already had ten curses and was getting more but he transmutted
just a little hint about transmute bombs: you can usually transmute each item 4 times i think, the 5th time will destroy it (could be also 3; 4 instead, i'm not 100% sure honestly, but should be pretty easy to test if you want to know, its atleast not a random amount of times before getting destroyed^^) - BUT: if you get a bomb upgrade from transmuting with bomb: equip it, then re-equip the transmute bomb. that way the count of that bomb gets reseted and you can transmute it another 3/4 times instead of getting destroyed after the initial 3-4 times^^ that way you have more chances on transmuting. same for potions that you can equip while dropping another one and vice versa :D everytime you drop an item through switching, its count gets set to 0 for transmute bomb :D
Hey DF, when you use the transmutation bomb and get another bomb if you pick it up and grab the transmutation bomb again it will reset the HP of the relics. Making so you can keep swapping between them assuming you keep bombs. Hope this helped you make those useless bomb upgrades to better relics in the future. Also the potion to swap all held relics will just toss them all out of your inventory and you can choose from new ones. Only do this on the second or third floor so you don't lose that many good relics doing it though
I'm unsure if this works, but it seems likely to me that the reasons the items in the artifact rooms wouldn't be changing is because they're being saved, or because the runs are seeded. If they're seeded, there's not much you can do outside of starting a new run, but if they're saved, then likely the save if either made at the beginning of the floor, in each room, or when you leave the game. If it's not when you leave the game, I still don't really know that you can do much, but if it saves when you leave the game, you can simply alt f4 without leaving the game at all, the reason alt f4 wasn't working in previous attempts is because you tried leaving the game first so those previous attempts to trick it saved the state and kept alt f4 from working
You can pick up a bomb after using the transmute bomb to get it to reset the amount of transmute you can use on it when you pick the transmute bomb back up
You should always buy bomb upgrades when they show up then drop them back down for the re-rolls, that way they wont clog up your item pool later on plus you get a bonus bomb and they are cheaper than most relics The scales are basically this game’s version of libra, with the stats you had it likely would have been crazy OP
To change a relic: Try quitting the dungeon, then exploring the dungeon in a different order before reentering the room. Even just opening chests in different orders before entering the room. There's a good chance this will work. Really depends on how they coded it though.
This is a good idea too. Many pseudo-random generators that use a seed have a Random.Next() function used to generate random values. If all random draws use the same seed, then it's like getting the same sequence of numbers every time. But, by doing events that use random numbers in a different order, you're using the same numbers in a different order, producing different results. Anyone who has tried to save scum in XCOM 2 has experienced this. Also, anyone who's played Fire Emblem: Three Houses and used the Divine Pulse ability (essentially in game scumming, rewind) has experienced this. Once you understand how seeded rng works, you can abuse the shit out of it. Example ... oh my rookie soldier just crit that sectoid, overkilling him by X damage. Then my other soldier hit that muton, and was a few damage short. You then reload that turn, and instead shoot the muton with the rookie, and it's a crit that kills it, and the experience soldier can shoot the sectoid and kill it with less damage. Before scumming = one dead sectoid, and one living muton about to murder your squad. After scumming = two dead aliens. I admit I'm a highly experienced save scummer .... and hobbyist game programmer/modder ...
@@Ashnal Yeah I think it's pretty common to just use a lazy rand() function and just save the current seed when saving the game. Probably works pretty well for most purposes. There's not really any point to confounding save scummers anyway, if that's how they want to play the game, power to them. Cheating and bug exploiting is more of a problem in multi-player games. They may generate the dungeon and save that though. I haven't played this game, but I'm kind of curious to experiment with it to see how it does it. Oftentimes more of the fun I get from a game comes from just seeing how they did everything rather than just playing the game and having straightforward fun.
I'm glad his voice seems to be unaffected by the whole lot of talking he did in the past couple of days. He predicted huskiness. I guess that coffee makes a good remedy for all kinds of ailments.
You can stack staircases in stacks of 999 in the stardew update. Maybe take a skull cavern dive? Or try the crane game at the movie theater for some surprises
You forgot to get the summoning stone after you beat the boss last time. The bosses don't respawn until you collect a summoning stone at the end of the final floor. It's easy to forget, I've done it myself a bunch of times.
Hey DF, you seem to like dungeon-like games, I strongly suggest you check out Heroes of Hammerwatch, it's a lot like Undermine, but instead of just having gold you also have to upgrade your town hub for ore, which you also find in the dungeons. It's a ton of fun, and I definitively see you playing it
I could be wrong but what I've seen from your testing is I'm pretty sure with the items to get them to change you need to go to the item room pick it up go to another room (might have to be shop) then reload
They should add an option "always spawn bosses" in the menu or something, it's a real bummer not being able to see all this damage put to a real test... :(
Yo DF you already forgot about the Antimatter potion, it seems. Remember that when you use it the next hit of damage heals you instead of hurts you, so buying one for 450 gold before you pop a Transmut3 for the last time and heal back all the health you just finished losing instead of buying the far more expensive (per point of health restored) food is way more worthwhile for ya. Also of note: The Catalyst is really good with the Gold Tooth, since you get 1 point of healing off every piece of gold you pick up, it doubles that. 10 pieces of gold = 20 health then, which is actually really good. Same with a Regeneration potion, which IIRC ticks for like 2-3 HP every second, for half a minute or something? That's an extra 30 health on top of it, then.
I don't own the game myself, but experience and game design know how has me thinking something about this "relic reset" people have been apparently talking about. Typically Roguelikes are seeded, and they autosave in case of crashes. Typically, autosaves (or manual ones ... save & quit) will also save the seed in the file, and thus produce the same outcome when loaded, every time. Apparently the shops aren't seeded correctly, and behave oddly as an exception. Knowing these things ... there is one thing you have not done when trying this supposed "relic reroll" scumming, if it exists. That is forcefully quit the game without it being able to save the seed. I'm assuming the game saves at every floor start, and when you save and quit. I'm also assuming, if the game crashes, it will restore the most recent save. Save & Quit, and also Alt+F4, are both graceful terminations, and give the game the opportunity to save. So ... let's hypothesize that the game makes a save when starting a run ... it could be a save of your permanent progression before starting the run, without saving any run details, such as the seed. This would make sense, since if the game crashes during generation ... like a bad seed ... a restart would grant a different seed so whatever crashed the generation wouldn't repeat. The other possibility is that the game saves the run details and seed on the first level. If that happens, there's nothing you can do, so let's see if the first possibility exists. Now this is the important part ... once seeing what relic it is ... don't take any other actions that might cause the game to autosave, such as picking it up. ALSO, do NOT "Save & Quit" because this will just save the game. Alt+F4 is also suspect, since Alt+F4 is Windows asking the program politely to close, and the game would have opportunity to save. What you actually need to try, is to forcefully "End Task" from the task manager without EVER using "Save & Quit" on a run after seeing the first relic. You've always used "Save & Quit" before, which gives the game a save to restore from. By forcefully terminating it from the Windows Task Manager, the game does not get to save, and will behave as if it had crashed. This MAY make the run reset while keeping the gold and such you start with, allowing you to cheese blessing/relics. I'd check this myself, but I don't own the game, nor do I intend on buying it. I know these things because forcefully terminating other roguelikes can produce similar cheese behavior.
You should try alt+f4ing right away when you find a bad relic, it might save the floor when you quit manually so it does not work after you've done that once. Not sure though, maybe relics are seed based and only stuff like shops get rerolled

What an absolutely cursed run
Oh wow, that end was really really sad, you have to repest this, I wabt to see it in action^^
Just so you know, the doom blade item ads 4 damage for every curse, and 8 for every major curse
nooo @12:58 you had the chance to have the float boots probably would have merged with the other 3 to make your super boots
If you have a freeloaders drought you can use it in the room with the demon guy to get one of the op relics without getting any curses
Awww, I wanted to see how much the potion would have healed you.
I love the music so much! I wish it was a little quieter though.
That's an extra 30 health on top of it, then.
have you played that game where every pixel is simulated or something I donno it seems like game you would like
If you find a item doubling potion in the shop and have one on you does that mean that you can infinitly dupe everything in the shop?
Doesn't this also mean you can infinitly stack what ever relics were in the room
Next video if df sees my comment 10,000 relic run
That only works on basic items like food or bombs, not potions
Oh okay
i love how monotone he is, very calming indeed hahahaha
Try to do a different path before getting to the relic room. You can clean a room that hasn’t been cleaned before and see if it changes
I love the music at 8:40, what is it and where is it from?
18:12 are your commentaries recorded in post?
a whole minute of dangerous not realizing what seeded runs are
Aaah the Catalyst, items like that are the reason I restarted my file. Gotta manipulate that relic pool, only the best get in haha
the catalyst might make the golden tooth twice as effective which would be really useful
The relic pool is only so limited so you could possibly pick up all of the relics in the game as of now and only find blessings there on
3:47 exhibitionist be like
Hi. I love your videos. Hope you will start streaming!
the relics you get are time based for the reset thing (the game timer)
You should play Black & White. You are a god and it depends on you whether you will be good or bad. You can do what you want with people!
You should try alt+f4ing right away when you find a bad relic, it might save the floor when you quit manually so it does not work after you've done that once. Not sure though, maybe relics are seed based and only stuff like shops get rerolled
21:00 *Looks at health*
Nice.
I get zero catharsis from your videos it hurts
what is the music tha he use in the background?
