    Lovely setup. I don't even have my General yet, and I'm shopping around for something to hold my 705 in (when I get one!) Looks like a solid solution.

    That radio, coupled to my Harvest RH-10M rocks! I've gotten several good contacts on 20m with it!

    Love this, I purchased a 705 the other day and ordered the case too. It arrived today and I have put it all together. A couple of things to note for those who also go for this setup :
    1. Make sure you update your firmware on the radio before you set it all up in the case.
    2. The way the frame fixes to the box is through the use of double sided tape which comes prefixed on the outer rim. Take the outer layer of the tape off and then insert the screws in the corners and around the edge and screw in to tighten it.
    3. The case for me at least did not come with a foam insert I had to order one (did that this morning) myself which as you can see in this video provides extra support incase the frame does come loose inside the peli-case.
    4. The power connector on this frame is as mentioned in this video a Anderson Powerpole connector. I had not heard of these before I don't think they are super popular over here in the UK so you will need to order some to make up a power cable for it. As far as I know I dont think you can charge the radio via the usb port.
    5. With the way the case is configured, to connect the speaker socket to the front panel, it means that sound will not come out of the speaker by default. There is no way I have found to enable sound to continue to come out of the radio while something is in the speaker audio jack. So you will need an external speaker / or the speaker microphone / headphones / bluetooth headphones to get audio out when using this setup.
    Other than that I think it looks awesome in the case, once my foam arrives next week I will be out and about with it.

      Good points. Thanks for adding your thoughts. I did not connect the speaker cable for the reason you mentioned. The internal speaker is quite nice and I have the Icom Bluetooth adapter if I need to use headphones. The adapter actually pairs nicely with my iphone and provides excellent stereo music that is automatically interrupted by the RF audio stream. It will charge via USB. You can actually turn USB charging on and off via menu which is handy when connected to a laptop to stop it from draining your laptop. Enjoy your 705, it is an awesome piece of kit. 73'

    Nice case with great functionality. If it is either Aluminum or Stainless 304/904L, it is not magnetic. Almost all other stainless is magnetic though.

    When you shook the items in your hand, close up to the camera, it's 1) out of focus, 2) made me almost dizzy, and 3) the shaking served no purpose. So why?

    I see 12 screws attaching the top plate to the plastic box. Is there a frame that these screw into or does the box have a plastic shelf they fasten?

    • @johncooper6894
      @johncooper6894  2 года назад +2

      The screws fasten the top plate to a frame. The frame is slightly tapered and fits snug up to a slight lip. The assembly can be lifted out of the box as one piece with a slight tug. I added the foam to prevent the assembly from dislodging in the event the case is jarred.

    Hello John I was wondering how the radio installs. The next time you open the box to work on the radio could you show the underside of the metal plate and install process.
    Thanks Robert N6RKP

    • @johncooper6894
      @johncooper6894  2 года назад

      Hi Robert, there is a stainless L bracket that attaches to the radio using four screws into the existing threaded bosses on the base of the 705. Send me an email to kc8zki@gmail.com if you would like to see a picture. Thanks and 73'

    John, Thanks for this. Just ordered one. Quick Question. Is there room inside the box for an external battery attached to radio or are you limited to just the internal battery? Thanks

    • @johncooper6894
      @johncooper6894  2 года назад

      Yes, the front compartment would accommodate an additional battery. The front panel has two ways to power/charge the radio, an Anderson power pole input that is connected to the 705's 12VDC coaxial input and a USB-C jack connected to the 705's micro USB.

    Nice video John! Thanks for sharing. I am curious about being able to view the rig and if the wires are long enough to perhaps take the radio out so it can be tilted for viewing. It would also help with heat dissipation. How easy is it to take the radio out of the compartment so batteries can be swapped, etc. Thanks again!

    • @johncooper6894
      @johncooper6894  2 года назад +2

      Apologies for the delayed response. The rig is fixed with 4 screws to the panel. However, you can remove the entire panel from the box and place it on a table top. It actually sits at a nice angle. In order to do this you you would not want to use the provided double stick tape to hold the frame. I added foam to the top cover to keep the frame in place while travelling.

    John, Does the box come pre-wired or did you have to supply the wires. Thanks

    Is the G90 still a good option for my first setup? Can you point me to a great setup so I dont have to drop more money down the road? Thanks

    • @johncooper6894
      @johncooper6894  2 года назад +2

      Hi PJ, Yes the G90 is a great first setup. 20 watts is plenty of power and will work much better than QRP alternatives for general use. The internal tuner is great. The SWR scanner is awesome. The panscope is great. You can even use the CW morse decoder to help learn morse code. I don't think there is a better bang for the buck HF radio available. 73' John
