  • Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is a rock musical with music and lyrics written by Michael Friedman, and a book by its director Alex Timbers.[1]
The show is a comedic historical rock musical about the founding of the Democratic Party. It redefines Andrew Jackson, America's seventh President, as an Emo rock star and focuses on populism, the Indian Removal Act, and his relationship with his wife Rachel.
The show premiered on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, with previews starting on September 21, 2010 and opening night October 13, 2010. Many of the cast from the off-Broadway production reprised their roles, including Benjamin Walker in the title role, Maria Elena Ramirez, Jeff Hiller and Lucas Near-Verbrugghe.

Man I hate that I can’t find the full show of this performance bc I saw it once and I loved it. Very few people can beat Benjamin Walker!

I know. I saw this on opening night when I was living in NYC and I thought it was SPECTACULAR. None of the clips really show how great it is.

I was watching a random movie and he just happened to be in it so I deposit the movie so I can relive the joys of bloody bloody Andrew Jackson just a little bit. I got to see it on Broadway while I was in college and they did a talk back for us and Ben was super cool and down to earth and he stayed and talked with the actor who was from my school with us. I always quietly root for him to do well in Hollywood. I can't remember if it was before or after I heard of the casting decision, but I also read Abraham Lincoln vampire Hunter before the movie came out, even though I never ended up seeing it.

It's so great to see this well-recorded version of "I'm Not That Guy." Benjamin Walker deserves a big hit on Broadway! What a talent. I really liked BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON when I saw it on Broadway. But, as this clip will demonstrate, one of the problems with the show was that it kept undermining the ultimate effect of its musical numbers by denying many of them the big applause-fetching (and deserving) finishes they needed. This number is getting ready to bring down the house - and then it opts to continue action by having the female character comically interrupt it at the end.

I wouldn't call that a huge problem. A number doesn't wow an audience based off of how much applause there is. I love Ben Walker, but I think it's obvious this wasn't his best performance and execution of the song. He was really inconsistent back then (Much better now from his performance in American Psycho). The shows biggest problem was just that not a lot of people, especially Tony's critics, are too fond of shows like this.

I mean it is a comedy... That's what makes that part of the scene so great, her obsessiveness and enthusiasm bring a lot to the play and I feel like that part is just something else to love about the storyteller's character. Her getting so wrapped up in the story is a very key element to the comical aspect of this play. I mean this play tends to generate lots of applause, as well as laughter, as it is all throughout, so I myself would have to say a big applause moment at that particular point would actually take away from it. Whereas I can also admit that it would be pretty comical for her to be singing offstage as if the song is stuck in her head and as she comes onto stage, he sees her, and reacts pretty similarly... But I think another key element would be taken away, as it shows a bit of his self-absorbed persona, and didn't appreciate her interrupting and distracting the attention from himself.
