    I totally agree with you're rant at the beginning! A collection of anything, wether its music, books or stamps, is not defined by how rare or unique it is. And you made me feel better about my tiny comic collection as well haha :)

    I have been buying and selling comic books for around 20 year and I keep a low inventory but I have mass produced comics from the 90s that are only worth cover price. Yet these are special and carry sentimental value. I actually only have around 20 that I keep and will never sell. Those that troll and say that you are not a collector need to stay away from the industry all together. People like this just ruin the hobby.

    Agree with the rant. I got back into comics 3 years ago and started with 3 books. Of course, now I have an overflowing bookshelf, but people start from somewhere and sometimes it's space reasons. If you haven't read them, you may enjoy the 2000's Superman run from Jeph Loeb and Joe Kelly. Great reads you have there!

    YAS GIRL YASSSSS to your rant in the beginning.
    To simply put, it's a comic collection because you collect comics. That's it. Keyword; collect! The reasons WHY people collect comics varies with each individual! There's no right or wrong to it, pssshh, I can't even..
    And also yes to yearly comic book collection videos! 👍

  • @Mattkeyz1
    @Mattkeyz1 8 лет назад +3

    DC has really roped me back in with Rebirth. From only have two titles from them on my pull last year (Batman and Justice League) to having about 8 is a sure sign that they're doing a lot of good things.
    Also, on the whole note of what a collection is, I see it as whatever you collect the most of is what you're a collector of.
    For me, I hardly have any trades or graphic novels, I usually buy all my comics in single issues without any worry about getting the collections.
    So when people see the feasible amount of trades and graphic novels on myself they kinda snicker until they see the long boxes that are filled with comics I've been collecting since I was 12. Just the way I was raised on collecting.
    If you have more trades over issues, you have a collections, and vice versa.
    Glad to see you trying out more Batman stuff too. Another good read for Batman would be to pick up The Man Who Laughs by Ed Brubaker and Doug Manhke. It's a sort of retelling of Batman and Joker's first encounter and serves as a soft sequel to Batman Year One.

      the man who laughs in newer editions of the paperback has a secondary story made of wood which is also really good and features the golden age green lantern its like a murder mystery detective story short on action but still good

    If you end up enjoying the new 52 Swamp Thing run I would recommend checking out the new 52 Animal Man run since the first story arc was a crossover between both series. You don't need to read both in order to understand the story but its really cool to get both perspectives. Plus new 52 Animal Man was pretty awesome.

    I absolutely agree with your sentiments on "what is a collection?" 100%. You phrased that better than I could have.
    I do have many rare books. Of course I've been collecting for 30+ years. I've never talked down anyone on their collection. I find it better to encourage and uplift fans and expose them to older stories. I enjoy comics, but I enjoy sharing the experience even more with friends.
    It's awesome seeing you taking an interest in Batman. That's a 180 since I've been following you.

    You most certainly have quite an extensive collection, Ms Kim! Plus, with all those zombie comic books (The Walking Dead was intentionally upside down because it stood out from the other books) you are the coolest gal in your country. I know you said profit is not your motivation for your collection, but you could put some of your duplicates on E-Bay to get a few extra dollars to buy new issues... Take care & be safe!

    What an impressive collection! Unfortunately where I live comic books aren't very popular so there are only about 2 shops in the entire country that sell comics and my parents would not let me buy them online, so I only get to buy some every few months and they are also a lot more expensive here, so I read most of the comics online. I wish I could some day have a collection like yours.

    I agree that whatever makes you happy as a collector,makes your collection a collection.However I do think it has alot to do with time periods for each person and their desires as a kid or an adult that never really goes away.My time period was the 70s and older. I had 20,000 books in my collection when I decided to stop. I wish I had kept them as I sold them simply because I thought I outgrew them. Pffff !!! If I had the money I would collect those all over again...Im finding that you are never to old to collect anything! I had all but the first 9 issues of the original Spider-man series. I had mostly completed all of the other Marvel series and had begun collecting DC comics and had more than half of the original Superman and Batman comics. I still dabble in comics even today at 56 years old. My message is that you should never get rid of that thing that makes you happy. Someday, even after you stop collecting, you will go back and dwell on the days when you did. If I had all the books that I had as a kid, I would read them all over again and probably start to collect once more.

    • @Geekerella
      @Geekerella  8 лет назад

      Very true! Since I'm a 90's kid it's a little harder for me to get my hands on older issues or at times even know what older issues I should be looking for.

      I actually have 4 or 5 long boxes left from a comic store I owned in the 90s...alot of X-men,Rogue,Spider-man,some of the Funeral for a Friend storyline after superman was killed by Doomsday. I may have some Catwoman left. Im selling them all if interested.

  • @datphoenix1972

    Agreed. There is a difference between having a collection and being a Collector/actively collecting though. Not trying to protect any of those pretentious asses but you can have a collection without collecting something and you can be a collector without going for ulta rare issues. Quite simple: If you have multiple things that are part of a line (Like Cards from a card game, movies from a franchise, Games, Comics, books, mangas figures etc.) you have a collection. You have a collection as soon as you have two Items of one of those lines. Otherwise it would be just a single Item. You are collecting something if you activly try to complete a series or at least a certain ammount of issues that are important for you (Like for example if you had like 12 comic books as a kid and you want to recollect them beacuse they were damaged, lost, sold etc). As long as you try to activly do that you are regarded as a collector by definition of the word. Does that mean you can go ahead and be like: "I am a Collector!" in a community full of collectors to various degrees? Well that depends. Yes you are to some degree a collector but probably not in terms of what it is commonly regarded as in the community. I would not advice someone to f.e. go into the comic community with his 10 issue collection (Which is all he or she wanted to have) and say i used to be a comic collector. You have a collection and while technically it is true that you used to be that by definition practically in the community you are not regarded as a collector. Being a Collector doesn't mean to go for every single limited edition, print and rare issue, so fuck those wanna be eletist clowns. So tl;dr: You are right. You have a collection.

      Absolutely! I would highly suggest trying Superman Birthright, Superman Red Son and Superman American Alien next. You may or may not find some appearances from your favourite bat ;)

      You should definitely read their team up comic titled "Batman/Superman" I think it only ran for 25 issues and there are two animated films that cover two of the story arcs. Batman/Superman: Public Enemies, and Batman/Superman: Apacolypse. Also sorry for rambling :)

    For SUPERMAN: LOIS AND CLARK, there's actually an eighth issue that closes out the series. I'm also enjoying NEW SUPER-MAN. I find it quite fun. Not sure, though, if the series can maintain a long run. I noticed you don't have Darwyn Cooke's excellent mini-series DC: THE NEW FRONTIER. If you haven't had a chance to read it, I implore you to do so. Other suggestions: Grant Morrison's run on JLA. Since you're big on Morrison and Quitely's ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, you should pick up their graphic novel, JLA: EARTH 2. It's a wonderful super-hero epic. For some excellent Post-Crisis/Pre-New 52 Flash runs, I'd read the Mark Waid penned "Return of Barry Allen," "Year One," and "Chained Lightning." Also the first half of Geoff Johns's Flash run which culminates with the "Blitz" storyline is quite fun. If you're in the mood for a good Scott Snyder horror comic, Image also put out a great mini called SEVERED. It's only seven issues long. So, if you gave up on WYTCHES, it may be a better alternative.

      Really?? WTF how did I miss that issue? Thanks for telling me, I have to find it now! Is Severed like Wytches though, or is it better? Because it got a little dragged out too soon :\

      +Geekerella To be honest, I've yet to read WYTCHES. It's definitely on my list, though. Do you have a P.O. Box? I have extra copies of CONVERGENCE: SUPERMAN from a comics lot I purchased on eBay. It's the tie-in book that reintroduced the Pre-New 52 Superman and Lois, while also detailing the birth of their son, Jon. I'd love for you to have them. A gift from one Superman fan to another. (Believe me, if you're circumspect, I don't blame you. I'm a stranger, after all. I won't be offended if you decline.)

    great collection, is hard to find a pretty girl who is into comics, and collections( even harder a superfan, nowadays people are all into emo, darker heroes), dont listen to those people, they are elitist jackass who need to put down everybody who dont qualify in their definition of a "true fan" or "collector", that is one of the reasons why new people are intimidated when trying to get into comics(aside for keeping up with decades of continuity). keep it up.

    So people said you didn't have a collection. I believe Nicolas Cage only has one comic that is public. But it is first Superman...so does he not have a collection when his one book worth more than all mine combined? Hmmm

    You don't like the new 52 joker? Blasphemy. That's one of my favorite interpretations of the character especially in endgame. Lol
