THE. BEST. CHARACTER.EVER! Seriously for a while was pretty much the sole reason I bought 2000ad. The nine volumes (was it 9?) of Nemesis have got to be some of the most insane works of epic fiction ever written or drawn and that's not even hyperbole! The fact the strip was running a good seven years before the first warhammer 40k book was ever published pretty much tells you all you need to know!
Elliot Bradley I read the anthologies recently. I think the story started wearing a bit thin towards the end before coming back strong for the finale. The Gothic Empire was awesome, and I also remember the spider planet was pretty cool too.
I just know about this because of a Spectrum videogame I played when I was a kid. It was so difficult I never got to play a lot of it, but just the artwork and the gothic/macabre vibe left me so impressed I always liked and remembered it.
My exposure to British culture (besides a lot of food staples such as black pudding and fish and chips) growing up in Newfoundland, Canada (I now live in Ontario) was very limited: mostly the only things British we had there was Coronation Street and Classic Doctor Who. However I managed to get a hold of a pirated copy (through a BBS) of the Nemesis the Warlock Commodore 64 game, as well as some other games that were very British and never released here in North America. Weird game, but fun. The music done by the genius that is Rob Hubbard was amazing.
yeah i can tell u what i think, idk anything about this universe except the data i have aquired in your vid but i really love "nemesis the warlock theme" and the visual concept of the character
Dude! Nemesis is freaking awesome! I just learned about this character, as well as Johnny Alpha, Rogue Trooper, and others two days ago, after watching the 2000ad documentary. It was great! I wanna read about these guys!
I've only played the computer game, but the design of Nemesis is just so damn bizarre that it led me to do some research on the character. Really would like to get my hands on some comics of him, even more so after watching this video.
I honestly love the fact that Torquearmada, according to Pat Mills, is based on the same priests that used to harass the hell out of him and Kevin O'Neill as school kids, which is also where they got some of their inspiration for Judge Dredd. Seriously though, I adored O'Neills artwork and Pat Mills managed to get you invested in all this crazy stuff and truly eldritch and weird art which is a hell of an impressive feat. Though I did lose interest for a while after O'Neill left the strip and I think it was Bryan Talbot who took over who was still pretty damn awesome but it didn't have that horror that I loved from O'Neills take
Cool character in a cool comic series with some cool art. 40K took inspirations from 2000 A.D. (or plagiarized...depends on your P.O.V.), but it's Nemesis The Warlock that was the main basis for 40K.
Love Nemesis, the black hole story with ABC Warriors was amazing. Thing is like many 80s 2000AD stories, Nemesis was deep, lot of political views and how others are viewed and treated, deep stuff for young readers, none of that pc hand holding, some stuff was very adult.....amazing reads.

Haha, I totally forgot that Nemesis stole Uncle Baal's copy of the Necronomicon! And how did Baal come by it, anyway? An edition stolen from Earth, possibly...
Is it the same Necronomicon from Cthulhu Mythos, which would involve the existence of the Great Old Ones in the Judge Dredd universe, or it is just another book with the same name?
Be pure, be vigilant, behave. I always saw the Nemesis strip as an allegory of city life, about conformity, and society. Or maybe I thought too much when I was a kid.
