Whirlpool Washer Lid Lock Won't Work - How to Replace W11513248 / W11414731 Assembly

  • This is a very new style of lid lock in 2023 from Whirlpool, and also works on Maytag Washing machines like the Maytag Pet Pro Washing Machine. The lid lock is a newer style and disassembles differently than any other one on the market that I'm aware of, and no current videos exist of this repair.
    Need the lid lock? oemparts.bens-appliances.com/...
    Additionally, taking the top of the washer lid off seems to be different and more fusterating than the older styles. I've heard from other techs that, potentially, a thin flat-blade screwdriver pushing up while trying the initial maneuver can help bend the latches to make this easier, but I wasn't able to do it in this video.
    Hopefully this video helps you out!

    Hi Ben, thanks again for another valuable video. Have you noticed more washing machine manufacturers are using the agitator along the the use of higher water levels? Your thoughts.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  Год назад +2

      Agitators and higher water levels go hand in hand. You can't really have an agitator and low water level usage. You have to pick one and stick with it. Its generally why I'd take a front loader over one with just the wash plate. Surface area is a major factor, and at least on a front loader the paddles will agitate the clothes more evenly than the plate will. Full water + agitator is the best, but not everyone wants high water usage, so then FL's are a good choice. I've had too many wash plates fail to mix the clothes over the years for many reasons.
      It seems like consumers are in fact pushing back for more agitators. Even LG makes them now which is a very, very strange thing to see.

    The new top has lock tab in the front just use a flat head screw driver in the side about 1/2 inch back from front to lift slightly and slide lid as usual.
    These lid locks don't seem to break commonly.

    • @michaelchilders2012
      @michaelchilders2012 6 месяцев назад

      The locking top is intentional on these and has nothing to do with the lock. Whirlpool seems to think too many people figured out the zig zag method and had to add an extra step to try and keep people out. But no need to lift top high in the back. Lift front lip with 🪛

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  Год назад +4

      If you can find them yes. Usually the NTW4516's are far more prolific.
      On Consumer Reports, here's the funny thing:
      Its rated a "32" for various reasons. Despite the fact it uses the same transmission and parts as the 63-scored MVW6230HW. Difference is tub size and UI.
      Why? Deep Fill drops the score. Somehow the MVW6230HW is magically rated higher for reliability despite it being internally identical. They pulled the same thing with the Maytag Commercial which people love.
      Consumer reports uses non-real-world-tests to score their machines often. Options and features factor in highly with their scoring, which to me as a tech, is usually the hallmark of something that is less reliable (and its not like they care much about reliability at Consumer Reports).
      If you want to use their scoring, go ahead. I like most of the LGs they peddle. But remember that literally none of their top-rated models have any sort of reliability score, or user satisfaction score. I really, truly, can't trust them for that. They're hawking promotions on new units while biasing against other units that have known successes and failures which have real, honest scores.
