If no one else does, I salute you, Casey, for not running crazy LED flashers. I am and always have been in 100% agreement with you that they distract and blind more than they alert people.
I was a lineman and we would get called out for broken poles when a vehicle would run off the highway. It always amazed me how they could hit an 8 in wide pole in the middle of their grill. They couldn’t hit the 200 foot gap between the poles.
I was thinking he'd forgot his house key and would have to choose between waking his wife in the middle of the night or sleeping in the truck parked in his own driveway.
I’ve noticed a disturbing trend in parking lots here in the east over the last year. I’ve been having people pass me in our Walmart and FoodCity parking lots just zipping on by not knowing if a child or person is going to step out from between a car or not.
Casey. When you get back to your truck use your phone or a piece of paper and write down what you need to pick up. If your like me when you get home you will forget what you needed.
I was wondering the same thing myself. My knowledge of this type of content is next to nothing, but I've been wrapped up in watching Casey's videos recently. Plus it's nice to be a part of helping a fellow Oregonian. 😊
Good morning Casey , that was a good catch on the missing faring bolt! You had the day off but a higher up decided that you was going to have a long night. Thanks for taking us along and thumbs UP!
Casey. Some college in California did a study on just that subject. Drivers tend to "drift" to the side. Both on coming and same side of roadway, that they are visually attracted to . I believe the Insurance board financed this study. They call it the "moth syndrome" as in moths being attracted to light. Again thanks for my second cup of coffee break from cleaning stalls. As always. Progressional and informative. Thx again gw
Well that study was a waste as they did one in the late 50's probably not needing a 5 million dollar grant that said people turning to look turn the wheel the same direction of where they look since the shoulders work with the neck.
2 counterpoints to your flashing light hypothesis. 1, you dont know how many people veer off, you just know about the crashes. the rumble truck is prime example. 2, i definitely cant speak for all drivers, but when i'm driving (local/short haul) and i see flashing lights of any variety, i get over if i can or slow way down and hug the center line if i cant. i'd rather scare the bejesus out of a toyota and give as much space as possible to the flashing lights over possibly adding to the roadside death count.
AAA did a study and found that at night, people naturally steer where they are looking. Don't give them something more interesting to look at than the road they are supposed to be driving on and you are much safer. Second interesting thing from their study: people who are intoxicated are very attracted to flashing lights.
Last winter there was a DUI accident, then another drunk person hit the traffic control truck, and while there were cleaning up that second accident a third drunk person hit the traffic control truck from the other end
Its not just at night. People tend to steer toward what they are looking at all the time. That's why good instructors tell you to look to where you want to go, especially in dangerous situations, like too fast in a corner.
My wife & I both went through advanced driver training on a race track. One of the most important and repeated things is that you drive where you look. They trained us by dragging a box across the track and it took a bit of focus not to hit it.....
@@CaseyLaDelle When I was an EMT, they had us drink one beer, then drive a cone slalom. Every single one of us hit multiple cones. While we were "sober" no one hit any cones.... It was pretty dramatic, everyone should be required to do that to get a license.

I bought some of the retractable ratchet straps he used in the fairing and I would strongly recommend. They’re really handy. They’re not for every application, but they work great in a lot of situations!
Glad to see your remote is back and functional. A video or 2 back it was left on the under reach. Did it stay on the whole ride or did you have to go back?
We went to PA. couple weeks ago and passed 2 truck stop that was full of trucks and there were truck parked a 1/4 mile down the sides of the highway both direction of the freeway. The truckers are busy.
Parking at truck stops has always been a problem but since the eld requirement it’s even worse I was pulled over on the side of an on ramp where there was plenty of room the cop told me I had to move so I said I’ll follow you and you can show me where to park he just got in his car and left!
Sounds like one of my days n nights Casey ! Good job done safely that's all that matters and you took time to go the extra mile by securing the fearing on the big wind deflector ! That's a sure sign of being a professional !
Why do people always seem to hit the tree or utility pole when they are sliding off the road in the snow? because they fixate on the tree because they are scared to hit it and then as their eyes focus on that object they steer right into it. If they had focused their eyes on the gap between the trees then they will naturally steer for that gap. Look where you want to go. So with the bright flashy lights it draws the driver's eye and they steer towards it.
Yeah been there done that on propane delivery. I got lucky once and parked outside of the gate. I'd be shit out of luck at some of the places we deliver to. With that said I'm learning the sites I can deliver to after hours and the ones that are an absolute no go past 5 pm with a 40 ft bottle.
Casey. I was looking at this video and thought that a way to store your mounts is by making a panel with holes and put your mounts in the holes and install these panels in a drawer configuration. Machine shops use that setup for tooling.
Regarding your comment on flashing lights drawing drivers in is real, alot of studies done on it.Motorcyclist call it target fixation or target panic. We tend to ride or drive right where we look and must remember to look where you want to go.Love the videos and appreciate the extra attention to safety,we can all do better. Thanks

The rubber dip that's available for tool handles would be a good replacement for the missing pad on your clamp(s), OR, a piece of rubber taped on with Gorilla tape. The radio receiver shark fin on my car has been held in place for 3+ years in Ottawa, Canada's humid summers (108 F today) and cold winters, with clear Gorilla tape. All I did was wipe the contact surfaces with rubbing alcohol. I'm aware that there is also a 'permanent' tape available, which is virtually impossible to remove, but it's not as readily available.

Great video! I drove south over that crazy hill one night a few years ago in the freezing fog with an 18-wheeler sitting on my back bumper honking at me to go faster. Barely could see the road right in front of me let alone try to pull over to let the a-- hole go by! I was not a happy camper! Found myself wishing him a couple of flat tires on his inside duals! Finally ran out of the fog just north of Madras!
If you are physically locked out of the rig. I have a selection... get a hook you can put a spare door key on, clip it to your belt loop, ALWAYS, no matter where you go. That way you can get back inside the rig. Mine is a key fob to unlock my Silverado doors, sure is handy.
Keep a spare key on a shoe string under your shirt. Best lockout tool on the planet. (Tower turned locksmith, so, trumping this will be hard to do..) A plain mechanical key is available for nearly anything and would suit this purpose....
Hey Casey, great show. I just wait all the time to get your next video. I’m retired now drove truck for 50 years and believe it or not. I still miss it and I watch a lot of trucking shows. Just a thought on your side box with your chains maybe you could fabricate a piece of angle iron to bolt to the inside of your box at the top to put your hooks to your chains on that way you don’t have to dig for them you just grab the hooks that are color-coded and pull them out makes it a bit easier
Great job Casey!! I sure don't miss the night driving, NOT ONE BIT! You did look a bit tired. Hope you got to your appointment on time!! Thanks for the video!!!
Have you tried to put thicker soft rubber blocks under your red rotating lights on the headache rack? It might help with vibration if you isolate the light from the rack using some rubber blocks between each of the mounting bolts. To describe what i mean If you put the palm of your hand against the window and hit the other side you will feel more of the impact than if you put your finger tips on the window and hit the same spot
Creative way of towing one backwards but to simplify it to just 2 chains, a kingpin attachment would be better. It just like backing up to a trailer and chaining both axles up at once with 1 chain per side.
It's impressive that you pay attention to every detail of the job. Appreciate how you explain what you're doing and why. Laughed when you snapped your fingers at the end. If only it were so simple! 😅
Carry a shaker shpion. Work great on diesel tanks. Can literally pull up next to it and transfer tank to tank.they come in diff lenghts, start at 6ft. About 30$
Casey If your looking for your set of wrenches there back behind your hydraulic valves , seen them in the video looks like they have been there for awhile. Thanks for your time & video's
I see the remote in your hand. If this was filmed after the one where it was riding on the underreach for the trip home, then glad it didn't decide to fall off.
If you look at something, you tend to steer the car towards it whether you want to or not. In fact, this is one of the first things they teach you when you're learning to drive race cars - just look where you want to go and it'll be a lot easier to accurately steer there. We look at emergency vehicles and tow trucks because we're curious, and because we need to look out for people moving around them. Therefore it's very easy to accidentally steer towards them. Add in ridiculous flashy high intensity strobes and we can't see *anything else* because of the dazzle effect, and it's no wonder they get hit.
About your theory on why emergency vehicles are sometimes struck, I would just point out two things. One, millions of vehicles do pass emergency vehicles without running into them so their lights are not a magnet to all vehicles pulling them into them. Two, it is hard to prove a negative. By that I mean that there are no sensors along the shoulder of the road so we don’t know if or how often vehicles are running off shoulder. Lastly, for courteous drivers, the flashing lights give them advance warning so they can move over. I am not criticizing your theory, just offering an alternate idea. After all, as you have said many times, you always like to prompt your viewers to comment as it drives up your numbers, so mission accomplished!1
I used to be on call for night work myself. Many, many times rolled out of bed at Oh-Dark Thirty, because a burglar alarm wanted some company, back to bed 40 minutes later, only to be called out AGAIN at 4 in the morning because somebody just had to go work 2 hours early.
Quick question, Casey. When you were explaining about emergency vehicles getting hit on the side of the road, there was some kind of silver cylinder laying on the ground. It kind of looked like a Stainless steel thermos. Was that something of yours or just something that was already there? I saw it a couple of other times during the video too.
I use the same clamps for welding and automotive bodywork! They hold great. I found one I forgot under my Camaro holding the header bolt. It was rusted pretty good. Still working with a spray of WD40! 🍻
Casey I appreciate your comments about the noise the hydraulic fluid makes in those valve bodies because now I think that is what I hear when I move the three point attachment on my John Deere 2025R tractor to the highest position. I am thinking it doesn't harm anything? To be safe, I lower it a bit when I notice the noise, but perhaps that is not necessary.
Casey, I was catching up on your older videos and saw you have a problem with fire ants treating you like their own personal chew toy. I can't get rid of the fire ants but here's some info I hope you can use: Ant bites burn because they contain formic acid. Baking soda is alkaline. Add a bit of water to baking soda, just enough to turn it into paste. Rub the paste on the ant bites. The alkaline paste changes the pH of the formic acid and gets rid of / reduces the burning, depending on the amount of formic acid. Bonus: It's non-toxic so it's safe to use on children and pets. Happy (belated) Father's Day!
Hey super random question but a lot of places I see short skid marks (1-3’) from trucks on the highway almost always associated with a slight dip in the road surface. What causes those and how are they made? For the next time you do q&a. Thanks!

Glad to see your remote is back and functional. A video or 2 back it was left on the under reach. Did it stay on the whole ride or did you have to go back?
I was curious too.
People in general speed everywhere but I don’t see one single person sprinting from their vehicle to the store so yeah SLOW DOWN
We went to PA. couple weeks ago and passed 2 truck stop that was full of trucks and there were truck parked a 1/4 mile down the sides of the highway both direction of the freeway. The truckers are busy.
Parking at truck stops has always been a problem but since the eld requirement it’s even worse I was pulled over on the side of an on ramp where there was plenty of room the cop told me I had to move so I said I’ll follow you and you can show me where to park he just got in his car and left!
Take care of your knees my friend! My knees hurt just watching you go up and down off your truck!
I hauled quite a few of them wind mill blades cool thing is to sleep in the wind farm yard
Thanks
Those red lights at least are in sync. Could imagine if they all flashed different!
That is one tired Casey! Thanks for the ride-along!
Another cool recovery Casey...Stay safe and see you on the next one
Casey I just love your attitude and your quirky silly self you could make any one smile if they are having a bad day but after hear your voice every thing will be ok I’m 59 years old and grew up in foster homes and ain’t got no family but my son and his lil family but I’d take you as a boy in a new York heart beat,I live in Blackshear Ga but I wished we were neighbors I’d probably keep you laughing all the time I’m a card now we’d have fun all the time
The rubber dip that's available for tool handles would be a good replacement for the missing pad on your clamp(s), OR, a piece of rubber taped on with Gorilla tape.

That's awesome of you Casey for real man.
I absolutely enjoyed the video.
You always show and talk through what you are doing. Thanks for the video!😊
All ways the why i will do that later . Well they do speed down that hill. Well be safe out there all good Casey.
(Tower turned locksmith, so, trumping this will be hard to do..)
A plain mechanical key is available for nearly anything and would suit this purpose....
As for the gate code...It's always good to be on good terms with other folks if at all possible!
Awesome Video!!! Thank you for taking us along on a mid-night run!
I really don’t care about trucking or towing but I’m learning about securing heavy objects. Thanks Casey!😊
Good work
Great job Casey!! I sure don't miss the night driving, NOT ONE BIT! You did look a bit tired. Hope you got to your appointment on time!! Thanks for the video!!!
Fantastic video Casey appreciate the content
Casey look at time 24:18 there is a set of wrenches under the hyd hoses you were talking about the fluid sound
Yes, and a roll of tape, some zip ties, and a few other odds and ends that I keep there so I don’t have to go to my toolbox on the other side
A 3 pound coffee can full of misc. bolts nuts and washers might be a good thing to keep on your truck for the missing bolt scenario.
Lots of money in just chains on that western star 😎
Not cheap at all 😁
Another informative job well done ...
Thank's for the great content Casey,..
Creative way of towing one backwards but to simplify it to just 2 chains, a kingpin attachment would be better. It just like backing up to a trailer and chaining both axles up at once with 1 chain per side.
Kingpin attachment requires a full wrap of chains on both sides
I thought you were locked out of your tractor by the title. That other tractor was clean inside.
All of their trucks that I’ve seen are like that inside. Very well taken care of fleet
You’re my favorite tow guy Casey. Keep up the good work sir!
I appreciate the didactic running commentary 😊
It's impressive that you pay attention to every detail of the job. Appreciate how you explain what you're doing and why. Laughed when you snapped your fingers at the end. If only it were so simple! 😅
An excellent video! Thank you! I'm glad you stayed safe.
Who makes those cool retractable ratchet straps you use?
Love the content. Thanks for keeping it real
Well done Casey, you're amazing with what you do. 👏 😊 Again great content.
I like that you explain everything you do my friend I enjoyed.
Have to LOVE the 2100 hour sunsets close to the equinox!
I use the same clamps for welding and automotive bodywork! They hold great. I found one I forgot under my Camaro holding the header bolt. It was rusted pretty good. Still working with a spray of WD40! 🍻
Good morning Casey!
Take a nap and be all bushed eyed and britey tailed when the sun comes up. Thanks for the video.
I watched a CHP doing lane closure work with all his lights on get rear ended in the middle of the night on the freeway. Very scary.
I bought the US General Tech cart and it is awesome
If you saw the bolt missing, why not install one, even if only for the tow? Just wondering?
Thanks
Love your calm demeanor at the end.
Casey, I was catching up on your older videos and saw you have a problem with fire ants treating you like their own personal chew toy. I can't get rid of the fire ants but here's some info I hope you can use:
Ant bites burn because they contain formic acid.
Thanks!
Lift axles hitting the ground
The change of pace was nice.
I use clamps like that for welding and they're vice grips with a big space in it, there they're not hard to make if you have to
