Amazing work! Also I've always wondered why videos shot on wide-angle lenses don't seem to have the distortion present in photos (as in, the 'outward stretching' that happens the further away from the center, not the visual illusion that objects are farther away) shot with the same lenses? Is it because of some sort of post editing correction that can't be done for photos? This simple question's been bothering me for years - would really appreciate it if somebody could answer, thanks!
Absolutely, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Your question about wide-angle lenses is an interesting one. The phenomenon you're describing, where photos taken with wide-angle lenses exhibit distortion towards the edges, is called barrel distortion. It's more prominent in still photos because the distortion becomes more apparent when you have a static image to analyze. In videos shot with wide-angle lenses, however, this distortion may be less noticeable due to several factors. One reason is that video frames are typically moving, so the distortion might not be as apparent as in a still image. Additionally, some cameras and editing software have built-in correction algorithms that can automatically reduce or eliminate barrel distortion in video footage during post-processing. Another factor could be the composition and framing of the video shots. Filmmakers often carefully frame their shots to minimize distortion and maintain visual balance, which can help mitigate the effects of barrel distortion. In contrast, with still photos, there's more time to scrutinize each detail, and photographers may not always have the luxury of correcting distortion in every shot, especially if they're going for a particular artistic effect. Overall, while both photos and videos shot with wide-angle lenses can experience barrel distortion, various factors, including motion, editing techniques, and compositional choices, can influence how noticeable it is in the final output. I hope this helps clarify your question! If you have any further inquiries, feel free to ask.
@@MarekMars Thank you so much Marek for the incredibly detailed and clear-cut response! Really appreciate you taking the time to answer :) Having looked some more into the details of the problem I mentioned though, I've found that it's not barrel distortion (which can be easily corrected in post), but rather anamorphosis, or 'volume deformation' as it is also called that's my problem. This is impossible to correct to my knowledge, but for some reason videos shot with the same wide angle lenses seem to display this characteristic much less than photos (if at all), and I've always wondered why. As a simple example, if I were to use the same 24mm GM lens you used for this video for a portrait photo, then the model would need to be VERY close to the center of the shot in order to not look horribly stretched in the direction of the edges; however in your video, everything looks fine and true to scale from the center all the way to the edges of the frame - this has been puzzling for me for years🤔

Hey @zactrieu! Thanks for the kind words about the opening shot. I'm glad the camera movement caught your attention. We did shoot it at 100fps for that extra smoothness.

@@phuongluu578 Certainly, feel free to ask me anything .I genuinely value your question and your comment means a lot to me. @@MarekMars Still, one thing I want to ask. Do you prefer shooting all shots at 100fps and slowing it a different speed in post or do you change your S&Q's framerate on set ?! Thank you for spending time answer the comments.
