@megaotstoy I agree, this kind of store isn't for everyone. A lot of people will go to their main local supermarkets. Here in Russia, you have a lot of choices and options where to go shopping.
@@TravellingwithRussell Look, Russell, how many times can you show these supermarkets? They're all the same... 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ Show your subscribers the places where real food is sold - Moscow food markets...
Svetofor opened its stores in Europe in 2019 under the name Mere. Two days later, the store in Leipzig had to be closed, as all the products were sold out.
We used to buy a lot of goods from svetofor . It's super cheap supermarket . But unfortunately not all goods are highy quilty. But we can choose the best options like pasta , chocolate, cheese etc .. great vedio...we appreciate your efforts.
is it true your democratic government strongly recommends you to get accustomed to eat insects or I must ve overlistened to my beloved Russian propaganda
as for pricing and availability:: "Svetophor" shops usually 20-30% cheaper at max from shops you would usually meet in your neighborhood. In Moscow there would be at least 5 to 10 little supermarkets with all the goods you need during a week in a 5-10 minutes walking distance from your place: different food supply, including all the different sorts of meat, fruits & vegetables, dairy, most of such shops have its own bakery right in the shop; all forms of household goods, snacks, beverages. Shop situation in the center is far, far worse but nothing really close to a disaster: shops would have price higher for again like 20-30% (from the residential areas of Moscow) and there would be much fewer of them, but usually you would have one in a 10-15 minute walking distance. (And to be honest, people who live in the center of Moscow except the students in dormitories do not really care whether their meat cost 650rub per kilo or 800) Svetophor are ALWAYS outside the city with the only way to visit being via a car. They do this to save the rent, they also usually would have some crap of a building with the one in the video being far, far nicer of what you would usually see. Stuff is also sold in larger capacities to make lower unit cost. It does not experiencing a huge success in failry big cities as Moscow or Saint-Petersburg as 70-80% of people would simply always choose more accessible "next-to-home" shops or just visit huge hypermarkets far outside the city (which would have kinda the same prices :"Globus", "Metro" hypermarkets have enormously huge buildings far outside the city and really low prices. You can spend literallu hours in such a shop) if they are to use a car that day regardless. Svetophor though are quite popular in lesser cities, where there are no popular store chains or average salary would be just enough to survive and so people need to count every penny (which is sadly far from a rare situation). For the same reason pensioners would also visit Svetophors as they have all the time of the day and ridiculously few funds from the government. Still, the point is - in fairly big cities, a kilo of middle price segment pasta would be 100rub at max, and in Svetophor we have 210 for 3kg Also, considering the "you can find something neat, but rare" point. In Russia we have somewhat of a local mini-Amazon, called Ozon, which is basically a marketplace for small and big business where the platform takes the responsibility of distributing their goods. There are literally millions of items for you to be delivered right to your house in the shortest possible time. The overwhelming majority of those (i would say roughly 95%) would be delivered for you the following day right to your door (which is usually like 150 rubs) or to the one of Ozon's centers for free. You would have at least one of them in 5-10 minute walk (I have like 4 nerby lol). You can buy literally anything there. And one last thing - the practice of delivering stuff for close to free is hugely popular in Russia and lot of things would have it. Above mentioned hypermarkets are no exception. They would gladly deliver your order for you with the prices being really low, though they would usually accept orders for quite a big sum: starting from 5-6000 rubs. Great way to buy food products for a week from home, without wasting any time om the road. This would be the situation in which Russians usually find themselves when buying everyday goods. And the exact reasons why Svetophors are not doing really great
I don’t know how it is in Moscow, but here in the Far East in Svetofor you can buy gutted Pacific salmon without heads at a price of $ 9 per kg, one fish from 3 kg. Also delicious frozen strawberries from Egypt at $2/kg, frozen mango from Ghana at $3/kg and delicious Iranian oranges at $1.3/kg. A pack of 30 first grade eggs costs $2. Last week I bought 4kg skinless turkey breast fillets for $5/kg. Very good washing powders and conditioners made in China and South Korea are also sold.
💯 meat, fish, mollusks, eggs, fresh, frozen, mainly local producers, - are fabolous and the prices are very good. Dairy products are dubious, except for cotton chease and butter, fresh milk and some other milk-based products, but mainly brought from far away regions, only 1-2 types usually, and somehow bad of quality similar to actual 'spoiled' (that's probably why nobody buys that and they do not develop their dairy section).
@@spicycatsandthings I live in the North Caucasus, on average my income is $900-1100 per month. We also have such stores, but they do not have the best quality products. The Svetofor, Mayak, Mere chain stores are almost entirely owned by a family from the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk: an elderly woman and her two sons, with a total capital of about a billion dollars. Starting in Siberia, the discount chains spread throughout Russia, went to Eastern Europe and China. It is known that the idea of their creation came to one of the brothers from the book of the founder of Walmart.
Yes, this supermarket is a warehouse, with very low prices, because it does not put goods on the shelves. they just put all the goods in boxes. downward service downward price . it is not difficult for me to take the goods out of the box if it will be cheaper than taking the goods laid out on the counter.

Milwaukee, W. Clybourn Street, Sav-On-Foods - I used to go there when studied at Marquette University till 2018. For a long time, there was no food stores around the university (except for Walgreens with a tiny food section in it). It was terribly uncomfortable for a foreign student with no car. All food stores were pretty far from the University. I was glad to find Sav-On-Foods 7 min of walk from my place. It reminds me Svetofor a little bit - everything is on the pallets, relatively wide choice, a lot of food in bulk - rice, flour, sugar, oil, etc., canned food in big jars, frozen meat, chicken and fish in large packages, non-food products as well. Check it up ))
When I was a kid in England we used to have a store just like this in our local town called KwikSave, which was a small supermarket chain that operated across the West Midlands. Everything on pallets but super cheap and even the walk in fridge just like this place plus a pretty random mix of products and produce along side the basics. I don't think the KwikSave chain is around any longer though and I haven't seen a store in the UK like it since, closest thing to it now would be Aldi I suppose.
Right, very similar to Aldi, maybe though the Aldi stores have a much cleaner looking presentation. I like this "on pallets" idea. Maybe we can get together and open a few stores. In the current climate, i think everyone would love a hard discount concept like this.
I remember Kwiksave in London. Similar concept. We have what we call Dollar Stores in the USA. Things aren't on pallets, but everything in the store is super cheap.
@@ChrobregoPoznan I thought it was just a chain in the Midlands but after checking it seems it was all over the UK, they are still going but only run convenience stores now, all their supermarkets are long gone.

We have Sam's Warehouse and Costco in the States where most everything is bought in bulk at these stores. I'm learning a lot about Russia and love your videos!
Lots of products are from Italy, Turkey, Spain, Iran, Malaysia, etc., I usually visit those to see what variety that is even bigger in some categories than in all other stores and chains, both by producers (lots of local and weird/rare foreign ones) as well as by very type of it, they have some sort of schrimps I never saw in my life before, some "big schrimps" there, i.e. not schrimps but mollusks similar to that.
Actually, in that stores you can found really good candirs for bargin. For example: in Magnit they sell some chocolate coated wafer candies with apple jam and crushed peanuts filling for ~600 rubles per kilo or ~7.5$ And in local analog for svetofor, which names like "Находка", it coast like ~350 rubles or 4.4$ per kilo. Almost twoce cheaper...
The energy drink you showed is great I bought many times, 35 rub exactly, tastes good and works well, and so inexpensive, it's usually from 80-100 up to 120-150 in "small bus stop kiosks" and in chains, tastes and works identical
the variations in stores is important. As you said, spaghetti is spaghetti there are certain things that most families use and roll through on a regular basis, and if you can get it here, plan trips to stock up, these stores can stretch a budget for money to go other places and for certain families thats a big deal. Any little bit here and there. That dried fruit is a great snack for kids and a great item to have in emergency pantries in case of inclement weather, or a crisis like covid. Its a good choice of snack for kids and they usually like them.
Right, i was reading early today the news stories about it. It's actually a good concept for a store really. It's just a matter or trying to find the right mix of products.
Heard about those stores before. After seeing the video I'm definitely going to visit one of those. I don't care about fancy product presentation. Price for me is the most important. A lot of "average" supermarkets have imo a lot of overpriced products. I'm often surprised holding one of those in my hands, observing it and the only thought that comes to my head is "WHICH PART OF IT COSTS SO MUCH?!"
А блоггер- молодец! dear snobs, do you really discern by taste dumplings from Svetofor for 67 r per kilo from similar dumplings from Magnit for 167? And the blogger is great!

This is a very interesting store indeed. There are probably similar shops in other countries. The goods in this store are not broken, not discounted, their quality is (usually) not lower than in other stores. This store enters into contracts with local manufacturers, with one condition: you give a price lower than that of competitors, we give sales volumes. It is not interesting for the store how the price will be lower, but often the manufacturer simply sells cheaper, the same product that other stores sell (they do not make sense to change the production line), the manufacturer receives its benefit from volumes. The store is quite loyal to suppliers, one condition is that the quality must not violate the laws (expiration date and composition), so suppliers also compete for a place in the store. The store saves on rent, shelves, repairs, minimally raising the price relative to wholesale. As a result, people are divided into two types: Oh no! This store has cracked tiles on the floor, we're not going in here. AND Here you can buy dinner for the whole family for $4! Buy for a week! Hello, Russell) Yes, in Russia there are shops with a fixed price concept, this chain of stores is called "Fix Price" (it's written in English letters, you can google it). earlier in 2010-2015 it really was a store where all things were sold at a price of about 1 dollar (at the dollar rate of that time). But now the concept has changed a bit, there are several fixed prices from 79 to 250 rubles. Nevertheless it's a very popular chain of stores and Russians love it anyway.

Hi, cool video, thanks 👍 The demand of that particular part of town regulates the assortment of the items. It’s place where they all have gardens and need a garden hose, an outdoor cooking stuff, etc. At the same time they grow their own vegetables so you won’t see much of it in this location vs city apartment complex will have a bunch of it, frozen, canned and no trees and garden hoses 😁. They limited by space and bring only items that are in high demand according to the neighborhood.
Hello, there is a network of these stores in the Baltics (LT&EE), in the EU, it is called "Mere", they are similar in ergonomics to this store, but the assortment is smaller, only the size of the sales area is similar. Prices are lower than in other chain stores, the range is mainly local and Polish producers, other countries are smaller.
After crossing the Moscow Ring Automobile Road, which previously, before the expansion of the borders of Moscow, was the administrative border separating the city of Moscow and the Moscow region, the Kiev highway is already called Leninsky Prospekt.
Yep, Russell’s “15 min to the center of Moscow” is quite a bit of an understatement - looks like this place is pretty much beyond the Vnukovo airport, so it’s quite a bit of a drive just to reach Moscow border.
We have a shop like that in Sevastopol "Доброцен", it looks messy too, food and things are cheap but not of the best quality. I thought there were the same items like in normal supermarkets just cheaper, but it turned out they sell the cheapest brands, which means no Bushido coffee, no Вкуснотеево milk, no Italian olive oil etc. I prefer buying food in specialized shops: dairy products in a dairy shop, meat in a meat shop, tea in a tea shop etc. It's cheaper and the choice is better too. For example, a pack of milk Вкуснотеево 3,8 in a normal supermarket costs 108 rubles and in our local net of dairy shops Милка it costs 98 rubles. A pack of a Tess tea is 125 rubles in a supermarket and 95 rubles in a tea shop.

"Svetophor" shops usually 20-30% cheaper at max from shops you would usually meet in your neighborhood.
(And to be honest, people who live in the center of Moscow except the students in dormitories do not really care whether their meat cost 650rub per kilo or 800)
Svetophor are ALWAYS outside the city with the only way to visit being via a car.
Still, the point is - in fairly big cities, a kilo of middle price segment pasta would be 100rub at max, and in Svetophor we have 210 for 3kg
Also, considering the "you can find something neat, but rare" point.
Dairy products are dubious, except for cotton chease and butter, fresh milk and some other milk-based products, but mainly brought from far away regions, only 1-2 types usually, and somehow bad of quality similar to actual 'spoiled' (that's probably why nobody buys that and they do not develop their dairy section).
can i ask what your monthly income is?
Frozen????? mango?
@@spicycatsandthings I live in the North Caucasus, on average my income is $900-1100 per month. We also have such stores, but they do not have the best quality products. The Svetofor, Mayak, Mere chain stores are almost entirely owned by a family from the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk: an elderly woman and her two sons, with a total capital of about a billion dollars. Starting in Siberia, the discount chains spread throughout Russia, went to Eastern Europe and China.

As a result, people are divided into two types:

"Светофор" владеет Mere. Это их магазины.
25:20 Laimonfresh is my favourite imported softdrink (Swiss). 100% natural, much tastier than 7up or Sprite.
I love it!!!! I just wish it was for sale in more stores close to where i live.
hehe, that woman was super nice ;.) Not mind filiming at all.
The lady working there was so nice. She really wanted to be in the video as well. :)) I hope she sees the nice comments from the video.
we need a store like that where i live! i would be there every day! it is a lot cheaper than walmart!
This kind of store is like a dollar general store as a comparison.
There is a retail chain in Moscow, which is called FixPrice in English. There is such a store near the Avenue shopping center.
I know about FixPrice, i have 2 in my small town, one i can even see the sign from my apartment window. I still haven't done a video in there yet.
@@TravellingwithRussell We will be waiting for your interesting video about the store of this chain!))
11:39 Kind of like the middle isle in Lidl/Aldi, a lot of stuff that you didn't know that you wanted! 🙂
I don't care about the beauty of the market floor, as long as the shopping cart can be driven and the food is good and cheap, I don't give a shit about floor colors or something😎
I think for me, I've just spent so long working in these kinds of stores i notice so many small things. I agree with you though, as long as you can get around ok, no worries what it looks like.
@@TravellingwithRussell Exactly😉🎯
3:38 how do you do this sound😄?
It's a very interesting word for sure. It means a lot of items all mixed up, all over the place.
I like this store a lot-you never know what you're going to find! I would've purchased one of those 5 kilo bags of macaroni.
I like the prices. Lower than anywhere in the EU.
They were great prices in this store.
Russell, maybe you'll show Fix price? It's very popular in Russia
I need to make a video in one for sure. In the time i have had the channel, i can see a fixed price from my apartment window.
I like this kind of store. You can go inside with no plan, no idea what to buy and you can find many interesting things with low price.
Russel , you should visit food city now - it’ll be the great content and very interesting to see for lots of subscribers. And thanks for your video)
yes, I confirm they don't like cameras there, but you can still record just don't be overly obvious ...
Are there shoe stores such as Payless? Shoes from China or more quality shoes from Adidas or Nike?
Maybe it's sVeTofor? Not sTeVofor?
I was staring at it for the last 15 minutes to get the title right, and i still messed it up. Sorry :)

I would love for you to do another tour of a deferent location of this same supermarket chain Mere or Traffic Light. Thank You.
I will look up a different location, i know on this channel, I've done 4 different store tours of Svetofor, which i think were at different locations. i need to check again.
This was one of the other locations: ruclips.net/video/FixVBjlvBXg/видео.html
also this one: ruclips.net/video/ARwqaAIZ9hA/видео.html

This chain was successfully expanded toThe EU under a, brandname MERE because of lack of the competitors according to its price's policy. I was reading news that time the first one was opened in Riga and was flooded with customers strifht away. However, majority of those shops were forced to close in current situation. Probably, it still runs just in Baltic countries.
Right, in the UK it was opened under the MERE name also. I think they have also all closed as well now.
@TravellingwithRussell Yeap, it was in The UK as well and currently closed. LIDL got its hair down🙂 BTW owners has a second chain calls MAYAK (Lighthouse), resembling to this one, but the shops a bit larger. As I was told quality of food leaves much to be desired in both of those.
With all this inflation across the world such cheap stores is probably the future of convenient stores
FixPrice in Russia is originally the equivalent of DollarTree, Dollar Store, etc ... selling mostly chinese products for $1 and some Russian brands that fit the price tag of $1 .... now FixPrice stores have different prices, but still probably no more than 5 price tags ... FixPrice stores are still popular, and with their fixed prices they used to come to the rescue downtown or near railway stations and bus stations where everything is usually overpriced ...
😂
in vhina i saw these stype of stores its very good for many small retailers . in USA we have costo
Poor or not throughout my life we mostly buy store-brand or off-brand things. Walmart offers their store-brand for almost everything so many of us in the USA buy there to save money. I did see a more Asian food store that was like this in California along with a supermarket that was more of a warehouse. For bulk items, we have Sam's Club and Costco, but they are not always the lowest price. There are some discount stores that have chains they price things around $ 1 USD but it's mostly smaller package sizes or Chinese junk. Maybe I'll have to do a walk round of them for RUclips like Russell.
I do not know why, but I am intrigued by the jars of pickled vegetables. Can you do a video of some quick Russian meals that would use these kinds of things?
Hello!
I am from Irkutsk! Lake Baikal.
Prepare vinigrette! Cut the pickled and boiled vegetables into cubes. Add salt, pepper, sunflower oil or mayonnaise. Mix it up! The dish is ready!
Hi Russell, thanks for the video that place looks like it’s an everything you ever wanted store and probably didn’t need lol thanks for the video😊
Exactly, well said. you walk out with way more than you walked in wanting.
I buy dog sausages there. Also are very good fruits and household goods there
Nice to know you found some items of good use.
