Recently tried the whole range... loved them all, but this one given a little breathing time was just superb.
Definitely needs a little be air to give it its full flavour. Top dram
Hands down one of my favourite whiskies! Really worth trying. Just got the cask strength too. (Although rare now I think)
Hmmmmm t-shirt looks familiar 😂
Great review!
Every whisky tuber should have this tee 😂
Not tried oyster or island need to look it out and give it a go...great job fella...
Ah man. Get on it!
I got to try this recently at the Summerton Whisky Festival. I liked it. Interesting that the oyster reference put people off it.
That’s the official line anyway. It’ll upset the hardcore folk I should imagine
This one is up my alley, I love a nice briny maritime malt, It better be light in color, too much wood is doing this style disservice. Gotta try it some time,
There's an outstanding 5yo blend by springbank (seems like they can't do wrong) capbeltown loch, heartily recommended for anyone loving the style.
I got a few samples of Campbeltown loch in subscription box recently and didn't know what that was (usually research before filming) so that's some good info cheers!
@@NoNonsenseWhisky no worries, for me that is something rather great for what it is, a young blended whisky. Stands out in a crowd.
Not tried this one yet but it has been recommended to me a few times👍 great review again Vin 🙏
Well worth a shot. Might even ease the Mrs into peat
Rock Oyster, Rock Island... Something about the phrase, "The world is your island," doesn't really work for me. Either way, it's a very good whisky just like all the other Douglas Laing blended malts that I have tried... I had a sherry cask version of it a couple of years back that was excellent!
There's been complaints for sure, but in a few years no one will care
The Rock Oyster 18, let me say, was one of the finest whiskies I have ever tasted.
Both that and the Beastie 18 clearly have a great amount of older stock in them too. Tremendous bottlings.
Annoyingly I was just about to cover the RO18. Seems kinda pointless now it's been rebranded
This whole Regional Malts NAS series is no more than 5 - 4 years old in my opinion.
They just nose and taste very very young to me. The clay note there in the ROy, for example. Well.
I think you're probably right. I'm sure DL would even tell me if I asked but I don't think it matters in this case. Only really the Epicurean that tastes TOO young
@@NoNonsenseWhisky Nah .. people can still get a bottle I think. And if they put together another ROy/RIslnd 18, it'll likely be the same blend as before. If for no other reason than to get people hyped up for Douglas Laing and independent bottle companies I say review it!
🤔maybe I will! It’s a quality drop and would be a shame not to have it on the channel
How about some LED lights Vin? Would keep you cool!😜😁
I actually think it my laptop that’s kicking out the worst of it 😂 last week I measured it at 60 degrees!
@@NoNonsenseWhisky60 degrees? Wow! This is roughly what the weather in Frankfurt feels like at the moment!
There's definitely something wrong with it! Already specing up a new one
I love their Big Peat!
Big peat is my favourite of the lot for sure
Could you recommend to me a similar taste profile like this strong maritime character? :)
When I'm after that briney vibe I always reach for a Talisker or an Old Pulteney
@@NoNonsenseWhisky Thank you for your fast answer! I have tried OP Huddart but that was terrible taste for me. Talisker Skye also terrible, Talisker 10 was good, but chill filtered and Added coloring. Maybe any other options ? :)
Where do you get you're whiskey collection lol send me a few drams I can't find a decent Glen carren either
I buy most of it myself. A lot comes from a sample subscription I have and the rest from sample swaps with friends. The odd one, like this, might come from the supplier themselves
i bought it didnt like it, infact it is the only whisky i have ever had to put water in, the first taste i got was of a cheap spirit, it was bitter, strong ,over powering and unpleasant once that shock passes you do get some complex flavours but not worth the harsh first taste. i only paid 22 pounds for it and felt it wasn't worth it.
I hate it , it tasted like wood 🪵😂
