I recently rescued a gerbil from a 6 year old that was scared of him. Gerbil was shaking and spasm-y. He moved very jerkingly and was the first gerbil I ever met that was an active biter. I understood why the child was scared of him. He was being kept in a cage like the first one. I switched him out to a bigger and better enclosure with enrichment elements and let him settle in. Within two days, he had calmed down, didnt seem to be hyperventilating anymore and wasn't jerking around everytime he moved. All I had done at that point was relocate him and it was enough that his entire personality chaged. In leas than a week, he went from greeting me with bites to lighter exploratory nibbles and we were able to actually meet each other finally. The enclosure you keep your pets in greatly influences who they can be. If they never feel safe, they will be in a constant state of fight/flight/freeze and you will never actually get to know the real critter and neither of you will enjoy the experience.

I got a hamster and I was go gonna get a “250” cage but my friend stopped me, and now I have one that look’s like yours:D
So my hamster is a very happy hamster (although it’s still getting used to it’s ginormous home:))
