- Deltarune's most grounded and brilliant theory is The Card Theory. The Card Theory predicts who all of Deltarune's characters really are based off a mystical card deck, and shows who we are yet to encounter in the unreleased chapters. Let's solve the mystery theory of Deltarune's cards.

Hey when did Toby mentioned a tower?
So we learn at ralsei *******, Soul the idiot and some evil is coming.
I thought you were gonna say the death card is Rudy cuz he gonna die
Rouxls is obviously the card that isn't technically part of the deck, but is just a set of instructions for how to read Tarrot cards.
Well, he is the rules card.
So, the rules card
The rules card
@@marctaco2624 tarot decks dont include a rules card, they do have mini books rhat briefly explains each card u can argue that technically

It's an interesting theory, though I'm still not completely convinced. I still prefer the Chess Theory, though it needs to be said that the two aren't mutually exclusive. Maybe Deltarune draws inspiration from both?
homestuck parallels intensify
I mean chess theory claims that the next major boss is going to be the rook and the tarot theory says it's going to be the tower. The Rook is pretty commonly referred to as "tower" by a lot of people so I think they're meant to work in tandem.
@A Random Gamer Bishop is worth less points in a game of chess than a rook is, so it would logically come after
It's not inspiration. The tarot is an expression of unconscious mass character design, and realistic characters like the ones in deltarune naturally fit certain tarot cards (Except maybe Jevil, he's kinda sus)
In homestuck it's the zodiac and cards ♠️♦️♣️♥️ and to some extent billiard wich I don't know what does it implies. I don't see a reason to why not
I am surprised that you didn't connect Berdly to the Hanged Man. He shows traits associated with the card (upright AND reversed).
That’s a really good point
What's the hanged man card say
@@holad8117 The Hanged Man Relates to sacrifice or suspension. Upright, it signifies a need to pause and change one's perspective, or to let go of something, but reversed, it represents stagnation, stalling, egotism, or avoiding sacrifice.
@@royalfool0230 huh, I guess it really does
i'm still confused...
I would change the assignment of the Hermit and Devil. Although its easy to tie Jevil and his Devilsknife to the Devil card; lust, greed and glory are all the territory of Spamton, in particular that comment about feeling chained down - that is literally his entire story. Jevil meanwhile seems satisfied with his exile, despite it not being his choice. He fits the Hermit far better, a proud and crazed individual who followed down a lonely path.
Oh yeah I never thought about it, but now it makes perfect sense
My main issue with the theory is that there are only 8 major arcana remaining, and there are at least 10 different major bosses in the next 5 chapters (one main chapter boss, and one secret boss). And that isn’t even going into any Undertale characters that may get a more prominent role, and any other new major characters we don’t know about. Sure, some characters may use minor arcana, or maybe one or two of the major bosses are characters we already met. Also you didn’t include Berdly.
Totally agree
What if we include minor arcana, such as the flame, hunter, running man, ect.
Waluigi is indeed the best
rather, i think of this as evidence that at least one of the future bosses is gonna be someone we already know
Agree, but maybe there will be characters given from Egyptian Gods' cards. (Like what happened in Jojo when they ran out of tarots)
For a small theory channel you're pretty underrated
That's what underrated means. A small channel that deserves more subs/views. You wouldn't call pewdiepie underrated.
You said the same thing twice.
He didn’t even solve the theory like he said in the title ,’:/
surprised to see no mention of the official undertale tarot deck
there is a theory that says we will choose between noelle (light) and ralsei (dark) in the continuing chapters and this fits with the moon card really well I think
Where can i find that theory?
@@chipakpaka r/deltarune reddit, the posts name is "Noelle... or Ralsei?" it is one of the greatest theories I think
@@g-manisegg-man7517 i see, thanks
the trouble here is that tarot, by design, is able to fit a great many situations. The fundamental action of tarot is based on the fact that the fuzzy meanings and broad symbols can leap out at your mind and apply to any context you find yourself in. Therefore this notion will apply to basically every game
Everyone’s a tarot card…
And then there’s Berdly.
the hanged man.
1:30 the effect of the orientation of the cards depends somewhat on your tarot disciplines.
Very few cards will ever wholly be BAD for anyone as they serve primarily as guidance on one's journey.
The cards tells you what trials and treasures await a person through their path in life, and generally what kind of stance that person should take to reap the greatest benefits, though sometimes - namely in the case of the Tower or the Devil - you may indeed get something where the best you can hope to do is whether the storm.
Different decks will communicate differently; I happen to know a Celtic Dragons deck that doesn't give a shit about inversions and will deliberate give non-sense responses to questions of which the answer is known and obvious.
This is an interesting idea, perhaps even something Toby did consider, but too much is out of place for it to really apply. To save time for both of us (it IS 9 pm), I'll only start writing out details if I have to, but you seem to have fallen victim to Tarot's nature. Aspects of some cards fit because that's what they're *designed* to do. Tarot cards are made to encompass many ideas so that one will appear to fit, but that doesn't mean this description is the ideal one.
*deltarune theory about Tarot crads*
me who has obsessed over these cards due to Jojo, tboi and persona: my time has come
Important to know that inverse cards aren't always bad or "darker", just that their meaning is literally flipped. For example, upright death marks the end of something, whereas inverse death could be the start of something or the return of something thought ended.
I’d argue you have the Devil and the Hermit mixed up. The Devil fits a lot more on Spamton with the themes of feeling empty and unfulfilled, he’s also a much better fit in terms of being described as materialistic (he’s a salesman and is constantly asking for money) and unable to control his own impulses (His glitchy mannerisms and way of speech show he’s literally unable to control some of his actions, not to mention the whole puppet thing.). Jevil fits way more with the Hermit due to his isolation in both ways it’s defined, he’s both locked away by others but under the delusion that he’s actually locked everyone else away himself. He’s also completely mad and it’s implied that this is due to something he learned (I.e a “truth” he didn’t understand).
I think something which should be mentioned is the fact that the Angel's Heaven is said to be banished at "WORLD'S EDGE", with big, bold letters, and that Ralsei tells Kris that within their SOUL they hold the "FATE of the WORLD".
This whole theory could just be a big coincidence (like all theories) but it's really fun and creative, and makes me want to use tarot for story telling even more!
Couldnt the cards be vague enough to fit most stories, and with a 7 part game you could find enough archetypes to fit some of these cards
Weirdly, Jevil dosent fot that much to the ppsitive meaning of the Devil, as they do quite opposite, understanding that they are bound and chained, yet consodering that a excuse for their chaotic hedonism. Jevil has found freedom on his chains, while Spamton is one that wants to break them.

Given that Undertale has a semi-official half-built proper tarot deck for purchase, it is rather plausible that Toby used this as a basis for character design
Honestly tarots and even astrology is made to simplify and be one thing, anyone can be either one of them and is a good introspection of many states of mind but generally it's made to apply to nearly anything by hitting corner points.
I can see it in chapter 1 + Q5U4EX7YY2E9N due to the card theme but nothing clear.
Though inspiration can come from anywhere so it can be a thing especially with the card start.
Ralsei definitely makes this theory for me. If you aren't convinced Ralsei is a liar, replay Chapter 1 with that idea in mind and treat him as such. He seems to lie about the prophecy, how long he's waited for Kris and Susie to come back (He convinces you it really has only been a day, but the rocks you slid down are polished down as if it's been much longer), and is likely lying about why his room isn't finished and his identity in the first place. Like, how would a darkner know what homework is or the layout of the outside school? When you talk to enemies who were beat up by Susie, instead of sympathizing, Ralsei kind of just ignores them in favor of telling Kris to hurry to Susie's side, which further matches the The Magician's lies about their intentions.
In Ralsei's defense about the school layout point, he could be a piece of chalk or Kris's old horn headband
@@G00dTaste That's fair, if I had to pick out a few things I find more suspicious than that as sort of replacements, Ralsei's interest in having the player not see their actions, his interest in a pacifist run and gathering all darkners into one place mirroring Flowey in a True Pacifist playthrough and his compulsion to avoid real free action or conversation in favor of being "kind" all generally give me the creeps
@@loversiren I think Ralsei is just trying to gather recruits for the knight fight... We don't know the knight's power level... We are going to need all the help we can get before the big fight. The knight manage to imprisoned some kings if I remember correctly... I'm going to have to replay deltarune...
@@onenoobman3331 I think that's still entirely possible, it looks like Toby isn't really going for actual "villains and heroes" and going for more of a grey area situation. I wouldn't be surprised if Ralsei was sinister, but throughout certain runs he learns to be better. His conversation with Kris (and more likely us, as he's very aware we exist) on the swan seems genuine even under the impression that he's a "bad guy" so nothing's off the table
@@loversiren I just feel like Ralsei being evil or whatever is kinda unlikely... I feel like he is going to be the antagonist to the player and not Kris or Susie. Just like the Spade King said.
"To my people, I'm a hero. To you? I'm the bad guy..." Most people that go against the protagonist are called "bad guys"... Kinda like - You are the bad guy, but you are not a bad guy".
Your title might be "bad guy", but you're not a bad guy...
11:40 What exactly do you mean by that? When did Toby say something about a tower in the next chapter?
Good effort but eh... it's not really convincing. I have performed nearly a dozen of tarot reading, and from my own experience and readings, I can tell you a few things:
There is not one card that definitively describes someone. IE: Kris being The Fool [0] holds no ground. We do not know who the hell, or what the hell, Kris is. For all I know, he might be The Devil, if interpreted as the card of becoming. Kris could also be the Magician, seeing as he has limitless potential. But we simply do not know enough about him
The same can be said about Spamton. He could be the Devil, if interpreted as before. Why I say interpreted, is because the Tarot is not naturally holding a set path to describe it. One might see the Ten of Swords (a card depicting a figure on the floor, punctured by 10 swords), as imminent death, betrayal. But reverse it, and you see a card of imminent freedom, release. Not every reversed card is bad- the meanings are just flipped.
tl;dr: Asking which character represents what card from a series of cards that are thousands of years old, is like a buzzfeed quiz of "Which type of salad are YOU?".
Besides Chris, the fool card, there's 21 cards, and there's 7 chapters of the game, so maybe there are 3 majors cards shown in each chapter?
21 is a multiple of 7
Coincidence? maybe
There are actually 10 chapters in the code
@@marctaco2624 really?
@@samsationeel no, its 7. I can’t find information that says that there were 10 chapters in the code.
@@pIantgang it was discovered along things like the everyweapon and mossfoil, unless its now removed. There was also something called chapter 0, which may have just been a placeholder for something like cutscenes.
Maybe the fool isn't Chris but the Player
I never heard of this theory before, I wonder who has the person that created it.
Is an interesting theory that's for sure, but I don't think it the main idea of how the game is going to go.
I think the Chess theory holds more than this one.
But you never know, the final game can easily debunk or confirm them.
It all depends how it will go.
OBJECTION.
YOu're wrong about Jevil. Although, I don't blame you, since it's made really convoluted.
Jevil has themes from Devil, Fool, Hangman, Wheel, the world and Death all in one, BUT, the one line that locks him into the Fool archetype is "I can do anything, Anything!" Also he's the first secret boss, and the fool represents the start of the journey and all that.
Him saying he can do anything is because he is a joker card in a deck so he uses attacks of all suites.
@@trappedcosmos Fuck. I'd been so focused on the whole Tarot idea, I completely forgot about that. THanks for pointing it out, WIlbur!
As someone who has been into persona 5 lately this is pretty cool
Yeah, I do think there’s way too many differences between cards and characters for this too hold any water. Besides, we don’t know enough about Deltarune Asriel in order to assign him a card
Honestly i think asriel is ZA WARUDO (im sorry)
I don’t really think this is true, I think tarot cards are just one of those things that can be applied to a lot of stuff
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
Thank you. Now I can't stop imagining Deltarune characters with Stands
Wait, I remember a thing saying that Deltarune was going to be based on cards mainly the enemies, but it would make more sense if the story and main characters where also based on the tarot cards
If you combine chess theory and this theory, the tower and the rook could perform the same role in the story
So you’re telling me that the deltarune characters have a Personas and Stands?
I would definitely argue that Ralsei is the Hierophant bc he’s the player’s guide
The King of Spades, aka King, is from an entirely separate kind of cards.
A man dies every time someone says "IS THAT A fricking JOJO REFERENCE?????!!!!!!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"
i cant watch a second of this without thinking of jojo. which directly mentions its connection to tarot cards multible times
and then of course... ZA WARUDO!! (i know he just says "the world" with a heavy japanese accent)
This wouldnt fit. There are too many characters for this. There's the remaining 5 main antagonists + 5 super bosses, Catti, and Jockington. As far as I know at least

maybe the tarot theory and chess theory goes hand in hand. the next world could be some tv world filled with towers and escalators as you go through shows and advertisements. i don't know what toby fox has in store for the next chapter so we have to wait and see.
7:56 hey i know that song that Captain Glouglou's Incredible Week's soundtrack by komiku
Jevil is just the Chaos Card from MTG.
And berdly?
I like this, although you missed some characters and there are still going to be WAY more characters
so I prefer the chess theory :) (still love the tarot cards because of tboi)
10:35 *pauses the video to write this*
Damn, that's actually really solid.
Yeah thats great and all, but the major arcana of a tarot deck are designed to be archetypical, thereby most any story could fit into the different roles presented. Since the tarot deck is not directly mentioned once throughout the material we have so far, this is very unlikely to be intentional, and rather, you've just stumbled into the point of tarot.
Deltarune basically persona
THAT WAS EPIC
So stands in jojo are kostly based on songs or tarot cards.
what's the song at 9:32
I completely disagree on Kris being the Fool. Yes, their the protagonist. But. Suzie my dear is the fool, she actively bucks fate (and the player) doing her own darn thing all the time, no matter the consequences. Kris more accurately resembles the Heirophant. A symbol of "The stardard order and function of the world (in this case of videogames) plus he used to be religious, attending church and it fits with the theme of loss. Prior to the start of the series, Kris had met Death. And is not travelling on his way back to, or away from the world. I like to think away from...
Kris uses they/them
10:35 ZA WARUDO
So Deltarune is JoJo?
the hermit sounds more like jevil than spamton
edit: and spamton sounds more like the devil card, they should be switched
I think Kris is the Devil card and the player is the Fool card actually
JoJOS reFrENce?!?!!

For something to be the biggest mystery in the game doesn’t it have to be in the game?
oh boy
I don't remember cards in the game...
WHY DO I REALATE SO MUCH TO SPAMTON
Mm yes.
Different characters are different
Unrelated but I think kris has 2 souls in him the player and the creator of the dark worlds it would line up with undertale well since frisk had chara and the player in him PAUSEEE.

You didn’t solve the theory like the title says- you didn’t even have a theory
That video was just a bunch of facts with no conclusions, and you didn’t make an explicit connection between deltarune and Tarot to back up those facts. Tarot cards are basic character traits that can be found in almost every story, so it kinda hurt the video by not proving any special connection they have to deltarune ‘,:/
