Hello, Didi, Your junior here... I'm continuously mailing official authorities to arrange on-campus or offline accommodations for standalone students. I don't know if I'm right or wrong, but after a conversation with our seniors, I'm convinced that most of the students who are doing this as a side course will leave it at the diploma-degree level. But standalone students are pursuing this with their mysterious hearts, and I think we should request it from the authority.
If they allow standalone students to live off campus starting from the first year (foundation level) itself, everyone will choose to do this standalone and the number of students will become so large that IITM can't handle this many students. The reason they made this degree "ONLINE" is to give everyone a fair chance to everyone to study at a reputable institute like IIT as in offline degree programs, there are limited seats available. Also, many people drop this degree in between because the curriculum is not as easy as that of a tier 2-3 college
@@RameezKhan0510 My reply is in the very 2nd part of your comment ... Most of the students are going to drop this course from diploma level - degree level very few can survive Bec though it's a type of hybrid course but it is difficult... Very few students will survive & most of them are standalone students ( suggestion as per seniors of this course) that's why I'm willing that IITM should do something for Us in degree level...
For an online degree course the BS degree is so costly that it would shake up your family budget. 5 lakhs for open category students is just too much for an online degree (plus your regular college fee). If you belong to General category, lower middle class family with above average intellect. You are absolutely screwed. Scholarship is provided to only SC/ST/EWS with great academic record. Compared to other online degree courses like IGNOU, YCMOU and many more this is way too expensive. This is absolutely not accessible to everyone, way too expensive with very less ROI. Also majority of the lectures are pre recoded so if you have a doubt you have to wait till the weekend live session. Also it's semister exams usually overlap with your regular university exams so you won't be able to continue both at some point you will give up. PS- These are just my opinion.
First thing first the total fee for the BS degree is just over 3 lakhs which is far better that any other offline clg and you dont really have a another BTech degree simultaneously infact many of my friends dropped of from their BTech degree because the BS Degree by itself is enough If you belong to a low income family you are eligibility to upto 75 percent fee waiver Coming to the recorded lectures, yes they are pre recorded and other than the doubt sessions at the end of week, we have huge discourse forums and a number of whatsapp groups and discord channels to get your doubts cleared Now about your exames overlapping, now thats a real problem, but thb theres nothing that IITM can do here because given that there are soo many students from different clgs having different schedules, its just a matter of chance when your exams overlap. I deal it by simply skipping the end term exam and attempt it next term by paying only the exam fee which is about 1000/-

@@s.r.s.iyengar2500 Everything sounds too good to be true? It's IIT online degree where 29000 students are enrolled. How could there be only positives to discuss and no negatives? Why is there a boasting that people of age 70 enroll. What do you expect them to do after finishing the graduation? It just feels like setting a trap for older folks to enroll without second thought. Why would they make all those excuses about placements? In western countries, friends and family help a single person to meet someone hoping they would fall in love and get married. That's kinda the norm. Isn't that love marriage? Isn't that what students expect from an institution and not arranged marriage? He wants his children to take up online graduation? I don't honestly believe he says that. Put yourself in that situation and ask if you would encourage your children to join online graduation whereas he could accomplish much much more than that if otherwise. I wouldn't do that to my children. I don't expect a lecturer of IIT to that to his children. Instructor led are better than teachers led?
