I have the same compressor and use it for a misting system were it runs continuously for extended periods. There is a one component on these compressors that will cause problems: the unloader valve. Unlike most compressors that use a mechanical valve integrated with a pressure switch, these compressors use a discrete solenoid valve that close when the compressor is running and opens when power is removed. It's a poorly made piece of crap that will leak after a little use which dramatically reduces the compressors efficiency.
Other than the unloader valve, I have been extremely happy with the compressor. It's exceptionally quiet, and does a great job supplying air for my misting system. I'm not sure that I would use it for anything else. Unless your misting system uses very little air, I doubt that this compressor would be adequate for it and a spindle tool changer. If a tool changer does not get sufficient pressure, it will not release and that will cause some real problems.

Thanks for the review! I'm looking for a compressor to run some small pneumatic system. Just a observations is the chuck key in the lathe chuck behind you? First lesson in fitting and machining don't leave the key in the chuck!!

Those little compressors are pretty damn good, I considered them. I ended up going with the Californa Airtools 8010 ultra quiet.

@Squid Person I have two of the units he uses in the video> amzn.to/2RPmmtf However I use mine for laser air assist and airbrush purposes.
That being said, these are rated for constant duty unlike CA airtools units which will burn them up over time, I've confirmed this through many reports of feedback through my DIY Laser Builders Guild group on facebook. These little units are exception for the money and have dual mode power switch operations, one mode for both constant and the other is for intermittent duty to 60+psi.

With the current configuration, is that something you think could run for 3-4 hours continuously ? with the fans that is ? I'm looking for a compressor that could provide 30 psi non stop for 45 min out of every hour. Thanks great content!

According to the linked Amazon listing: "In the secondary switch position, the compressor runs continuously, when maximum output is desired (up to 85 psi).
    "
So it's not supposed to get above 85psi.

Got ya. The manual and the label aren't as clear. So it is just an upper limit safety switch.

This compressor behaves consistently with the specs I encountered for it. I found it has two modes, 1: auto stop at 4.5 bar and 2: Continuous running to mantain a max pressure of 6 bar

that compressor set up is almost identical to a O2 concentrator for people that need oxygen. i was given one my a neighbor after her husband passed and she had no use for it. i disassembled it and converted it for the mister spray system on my cnc mill similar to what you have going on. it had fans already installed on tops of the pump heads and the plastic enclosure made for it was packed full of foam no wonder there so quiet . so if you happen to see one for cheap or someone giving one away and need a small quiet type compressor grab it

Robert! You're killing me leaving the t-handle in the lathe chuck. OSHA shows lots of folks get hurt very year doing just that! Please be careful!!!

Look at Harbor Freight (Yes I'm serious) Fortress air compressors. 57db for the 1gal, 60db for the 2gal @ 135psi. Built better than the California air tools variants. Both are dual piston and under $150.

Interesting, I'll have to check that out. I have a California Air Tools for other stuff, and it's a LOT quieter than other compressors I've owned, but the airbrush compressor is still quite a bit quieter. I'll have to check these out, thanks!

Most diaphragm pumps are good for about 3,000 hours before they need to be rebuilt. I guess you know that by now.

    • @RobertCowanDIY
      @RobertCowanDIY  3 года назад

I'm a hobbyist. I will use it maybe an hour or two every other weekend. This gives me ~52 hours of usage a year. Double that... 100 hours. That gives me 30 years worth of use. I'll check back then and let you know if it's still working. I wouldn't run this in a production shop, they'd have air plumbed in.

A bigger compressor. You cannot 'eliminate' overheating. Most shops just use a bigger compressor that's made for longer run times.
