With good adjustable sights no less. These ones that can range from 50-100-200-300m and the front sight appears to be adjustable for windage, as opposed to the standard 100-200m flip sight.
Yeah I guess, thinking about it it makes sense because the bolt throw is so short. With a bolt throw so short having a resonable rate of fire becomes a real problem, same reason full auto pistols like Glock 18 have a ridiculous rpm, since the bolt has such a short travel the rpm will be high. Making it a full auto only SMG with a 500:ish rpm would require serious redesign instead of just cutting away luxuries.
Dentistguba The point of a submachine gun on full auto is to make 1 or 2 people very dead, very quickly. This is especially the case with ones with higher fire rates. For everything else, you use semi auto or really short bursts
Even the cheapest, most barebones swiss gun (a simple blowback tube smg at that) has more features, is better constructed, is smoother and more manageable to shoot than most smgs out there.
Or the MAT-49. Be interesting to see a direct comparison between this and the MAT, similar guns designed for a similar period. The French gun got to see 30 plus years of hard combat whereas the Swiss weapon thankfully never had to prove itself but I wonder if it would not have gained a similar reputation as a gun to bet your life on.
It does, sadly there was a shitload of accidents with those things as they had the habit of blasting off on full auto when dropped or banged on something which led to the army abandoning them. (And before you say: "What kind of soldier drops his loaded gun or bangs it onto something?" Drafted 4-weeks a year soldiering reservists do.)
"Hmm, do I want to carry this heavy large thing down off of the side of a tank? not really" *throws gun off of tank* Military weapons have to be idiot proofed to an extent. That is why they all have shitty triggers
Uuuhhh... that would give an hour of putting the safety on and off... until your indexfinger is used up like your soles from the KS after long marches 😂
It's incredible how smooth the full auto shooting was given the straight blow back and the high rate of fire. It looked incredibly controllable for a lead firehose. Gotta love the Swiss.
I really like this line of Swiss sub guns. Elegant when fully dressed, and simple utility when all the elegant dress is removed, but still beautifully elegant in operation and design.
Would be interested to see a comparison between this one and the nicer non-"ghetto blaster" version. Because this seems pretty solid for an SMG of it's era. I'd like to see what the differences are and where corners were cut.
The Swiss have some of the highest rates of private gun-owners in europe, since they have mandatory military service and get to keep their gun after that, for defensive purposes. They just recently changed it so that they don't get ammo with it anymore, because suicide-rates were just too high. Switzerland is also the only country that can be entirely locked down. Every entrance into the country can be blocked with steel-barriers and the mountains are full of hidden bunkers, even for jet-hangars sometimes. "neutral" only means they won't take sides in other countries fighting each other. It does not mean that they are not willing do defend. If you attack Switzerland, you got to expect every single swiss citizen to fight you.
more accurately... part of the reason they were able to remain neutral at all were said arms in the first place (among others), having guns and well trained men able to use them tend to be more effective at convincing others to leave you alone than most things.
back in the days , you used to sell 'Gurten' bier.. That was better then Feldschlossen, or Heineken, Grolsch enz. Where did it go? Gr. from the Netherlands.
If you're looking around for a BB pistol I would recommend this one ruclips.net/user/postUgkxnX9wE_Q8zvF75Y5iWzTU3Q4FlrtyGApQ . I ordered two BB pistols from Dan Wesson and this one is so much nicer than the other one. It's a well built gun. Can't say that about the other one. I thought the Mag was pretty easy to load. I also just lock the spring back and fill up the hole with 16 BB's with no sweat. Easily remove the rear part of the handle from the bottom with the Mag removed to access the CO2 chamber. Sweet. Very nice painted sights on both ends. Doesn't have blowback but the gun is rated at 410 fps the blowback edition is 365 fps.Didn't really know much about BB guns before but now I see that Umarex makes some fine BB guns. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer CO2 air pistol than this one I think. Just seems flawless. It even states on the packaging Glock perfection. I think my next Airgun may very well be an Umerex. Oh and if you really want a blowback (don't think amazon sells the Glock w/blowback) you might consider the Beretta APX by Umarex. But that gun is only rated at 310 fps. All things being equal, if it were me I'd buy the Glock again in a heartbeat :)
What makes the gun recoil so mildly? It looks relatively light, it has high fire rate, short bolt travel and the barrel aligns above the stock so you could think that the recoil would be quite harsh. But instead it seems to be very controllable in full auto, almost like the way the KP-31 is, which has the advantage of heavy weight to absorb the recoil.
What a sweet little blaster! I've read about them before but I guess I just passed it by as another dime a dozen sub gun. Man was I wrong, the Swiss once again give me some medicine to take. Lol. Great work as usual; Ian.
I own a Schmidt-Rubin K-31 carbine and a M1911 long rifle. Both very well made and accurate rifles. Some of the NICEST guns in my C&R collection in terms of overall value:)-John in Texas
Ian, I love the way that the sound of the gun is attenuated in that firing range, it makes it sound awesome. This gets me thinking... many people have designed and manufactured devices to suppress the sound of a weapon firing but has anyone actually made an attenuator to make something like a sub-machine gun sound more like a medium or heavy machine gun.

Nice design, especially the bolt, recoil spring, charging handle, and their relationship. Looks pretty controllable for 1000 rpm. I wonder if it would be even better with a buffer bringing it down to 800 or so. Never heard of these. Always interesting to learn a new one. Great video as always. Thank you
The folded/collabsed transportation mode looks marvelous! Almost like a star wars blaster. Are there any videos about the previous and more refined versions of this sub machine gun on this channel?
We have this baby still works like well and still accurate for its age we had trouble trying to find extra mags for it but luckily we found someone who makes mags from scratch. Its now being preserved registered for archiving purposes.
So here's the real question for me. Do you think somewhere a Swiss engineer or ten was openly weeping as they developed this gun? Is there a video of a Swiss engineer somewhere having a sobering moment like Oppenheimer did after seeing the atomic bomb detonate for the first time? "How could they possibly ask this of us?!??? My God, what the hell have we created?!?? What will future generations think of us?!??"
Elektronaut thats what it looks like which would make since. No point in pulling out the stock if the gun cant feed. Plus its swiss even on a chepo SMG they are going to have bells and whistles.
Even with that rate of fire (and I'd hate to question the Swiss when it comes to counting things, but that seemed suspect to me) it's not surprising that it's controllable. Stock axis and bore are very close, everything is aligned parallel to line of fire. Compare that to something like the Thompson which Ian has shown really likes to climb when fired. Great series.
This seems excellent for such a old gun, even thought the r.o.f. is so high the recoil seems reasonable. Honestly, for a 9mm, as long as it doesn't jam often and have fire selector, over 1000 rpm full auto is the way i would like to go.
Wait, if you're at Switzerland then I dearly hope there's a SIG 542 video on the horizon. I always wanted to see how that rifle would stack up in the FAL vs G3 debate.

I cant believe that a pivoting mag well is considered a cheap design lol.
answer: it's really expensive to make
@@MAD_ru_GADA It was compensated with profits from chocolate and watches...
The Swiss "cheap out",
build a 1000 rpm, select fire SMG with a 40 round magazine that can fold for transport.
With good adjustable sights no less. These ones that can range from 50-100-200-300m and the front sight appears to be adjustable for windage, as opposed to the standard 100-200m flip sight.
@anOKlamp youve never seen the grease gun then heh
@anOKlamp actually it is and its cause of the super slow rate of fire
you can tell it's a "cheap out", ian had a malfunction
@anOKlamp wow
cheap-out smg - has semi auto mode
damn Swiss
swish cheap-out still the most expensive thing on the block.

Cheap Swiss guns still have more features than many other "fully featured" products.
That said there is something to be said about the elegance of well designed simplicity.
While a "cheap Swiss gun", it was probably still more expensive than the other fully featured ones. =)

The Swiss are just so amazing!
The acoustics in the location make that gun sound way more awesome than it appears.
Quite simple design. Did`nt expect that from Swiss.
Rate of fire sounds like the mg42 baby brother.
