    GREAT VIDEO! Love how you got right into it and talked about the pros and cons. Very informative! The only thing I wish you talked about, was the time it took to engrave and or cut the items to give us an idea of how fast or slow this machine is cause it's hard to estimate it with the high speed fast time lapse you did on the video.

    Great video. I just received the riser base and conveyor from xTool. I notice in the manual for the riser base that it advises you to not pick up, or move the S1, once the riser base is installed. I assume that is because of the small number of screws holding everything together. Based on that, I don't think I would take it to a craft show.

  • @BobBob-eh5sb

    Nice review. Interesting comments about the conveyor. If it only does less than 3/4” and it has to be really flat, that could be a problem. I haven’t come across too many boards that were that thin and still perfectly flat. What would the solution be, a taller riser box? Not an expert and haven’t seen one of these in person. But I assume that the laser itself could be raised farther up than the riser does by whatever support as long as it’s stable and level. I’m guessing it’s the height of the conveyor that is limiting workpiece thickness.
    Edit: I just watched another video about the conveyor. I saw on it that the drive roller attachment, whatever it’s really called, is connected to the front of the laser and over the top of the conveyor. So, by seeing that it looks like raising the laser wouldn’t have any effect because the conveyor would have to be raised too. Still like the conveyor idea though.

    • @MoonpieCreations
      @MoonpieCreations  10 месяцев назад

      I’ve been playing with it and I’m starting to like it. It allows me to do larger signs on hardwood. I think most of my issues were inexperience with the conveyor system. There are issues with every system I’ve used. The fun part is learning to overcome it. 😂

    I'm considering this laser for my shop. My question concerns acrylics. Specifically if I take a piece of white acrylic, paint it black with several coats of something like Rustoleum 2X flat black and then can I engrave lettering on it? Also, could I cut out simple geometric shapes? I'm trying to reproduce the instrument panel from the cockpit of a fighter like an F-15.

      @@astrophysicistguy i’m not sure about painting the white acrylic. In theory you can do. If I had some white acrylic I would give it a try lol sounds like an interesting experiment. As for the shapes if you can bring it in with an SVG or PNG file you can.

      The different watts you need depend on thickness of the material you want to burn or cut. I would say most of us would not need more than a 20w laser. This is just my opinion. Strength also impacts speed also.

      It really depends on what your plans for use are. The S1 if great for taking with me on events. It also does well with curved surfaces. The D1 is a great stay put machine for me. I can use it for larger engraves and cuts. I don't do many larger engraves or cuts, but I do a lot of curved and batch engraves. So the S1 coupled with the F1 are perfect for me.
