One of the most underrated voices in music. A consistently amazing song writer, musician, producer and lyricist. And you can tell she does it... for the love of her trade. I have total love and admiration for her and her work. A genius that should have been discovered and revered decades ago.
During the 80s it was called cowpunk. High energy rock bands with an appreciation for country music. Bands out in L.A. that were as likely to play the Palomino as they were the Roxy. Groups like Lone Justice, Jason & and the Scorchers, Rank and File, etc.
@tahquitz2012 I was lucky enough to have a friend on tour with U2 in 86/87 when Lone Justice opened for U2. I met and talked with Maria briefly, she was AMAZING, young, self-taught, pure/natural talent, very cool, down to earth, and BEAUTIFUL woman!!!
really a great voice between country, rock, indie and gospel. A gifted singer and songwriter that she is. Beautiful Song indeed! Hope to see her again in europe.
Good example of the music business = how come Loveless's version is the one we all know? THIS is the real deal. MM / LJ just didn't get the pub. they deserved. Everyone wants to say they were too young. You've either got the goods or you don't. You can't fool a live audience! LJ had the spook!!!!!
wiki entry for Bryan MadLean - " Maria McKee, songwriter Bryan MacLean's sister, told Loveless at the studio that she was singing/recording the song the way her brother had always intended."
She truly has a classic American Country voice...o.dd that she fronted a pop band ...or was Lone Justice more country and I just didn't know it?lol.. her voice reminds me of Patty Loveless at times....
At the time I guess Lone Justice would have been called Rockabilly... I'd say she has a classic voice, drop the American, drop the Country, drop the pop. Listen to Scarlover.
@@betpow This was recorded for a BBC prog. called Karaoke Country late 80s, so recorded in BBC studio. If I recall correctly there were songs by Cowboy Junkies, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Lucinda Williams too.

A voice that needs to be heard. Inspiring, beautiful, and timeless.

I could listen to her all day. And sometimes, I do. :)
Timeless song. What a voice.
Maria co-wrote the song with her half-brother Bryan Maclean (of the '60s band Love).
Thanks for posting this wonderful performance of a great song!

I loved Lone Justice, and Maria's got a fantastic voice and amazing presence. But all these years later, I'm just wondering why she dumped her band.
Lin Thizzy she did not want to sing hillbilly music anymore you can talk to her on Twitter @realmariamckee
where was this from?....the great maria
last second of the video should be a painting
When was this? Where and who is with her?
Bruce Brody on keyboard, who had been with her for a long time...but I've never been able to figure out where this is from either
