- The Match of the Day episode broadcast on 8th December 1984, featuring highlights of Nottingham Forest v Manchester United and Spurs against Newcastle, plus a report on the FA Cup tie between Dagenham and Peterborough and the goals from Aberdeen v Celtic.
Gordon Strachan, Chris Fairclough and Steve Hodge later won the last First Division title with Leeds in 1992.
Yes strachan had to move to a bigger club to win the 1st division title 😂😭😭👍☮️🇬🇧
And Ian Harte used to play for Leeds too sure he was captain
These were the results that undermined our challenges for the league title in the Ron Atkinson era.
Football was so much better back then. The only bad thing about it was the sort of nonsense we saw in the Dagenham v Peterborough game.
And the standards of the grounds and pitches.
JasonC1782 I don’t think so myself. I preferred the grounds back then, more atmosphere. But that’s my preference. I can see why you would prefer today’s grounds for the facilities.
THAT MAN UNITED TEAM,1981 ISH TO MID 1986 WERE JUST A BEAUTIFUL COLOURFUL TEAM.JUST SO MANY FANTASTIC GAMES AGAINST SO MANY TEAMS A SIMILAR TIME FOR EVERTON'S GLORY DAYS 1983ISH TO 1987.MAN UTD WERE A TARGET FOR EVERY TEAM .SO AGAINST NOTTS FOREST,THERE WERE TWO GAMES WHERE MAN UTD LOST 2-3 TO THEM IN THE LAST MINUTE UNITED FANS NOT HAPPY WITH THAT JUST SO MUCH ATMOSPHERE IN THIS EDITION OF MATCH OF THE DAY AND I REMEMBER THAT DAY UNITED WENT 2-0 UP ! AND AT SUNDERLAND.WE'RE STILL ALIVE BUT TIME'S RUNNING OUT FOR US, LADS!
You never hear the chant "here we go, here we go, here we go" at football grounds anymore.
And you never hear the one to the tune of the old Hoover Vacuum Cleaner TV advert, 'It beats as it sweeps as it cleans'. Football is rubbish these days - all seater stadia made out of Lego or Meccano, political correctness and identity politics, horrible tattooed players sliding around on their knees with their mouths wide open, ripoff admission prices....
Forest no 2 Alan Davidson used to play in Malaysian football for Pahang from 1992 to 1995. he was an Aussie international footballer then.
and he played for Pahang as a sweeper rather than a right-back.

Blood everywhere, strait back up and carry on
Alan Brazil said a few times on Talksport Gordon McQueen went for Gary Bailey in the dressing room after United threw it away. You can see them at each other after the first Forest goal.
northlondonisours gaz Gary Bailey was always like that!! As a match going United fan back in the 80’s I saw him blame the defence many times!!! Some of the time he would be justified and other times it was him at fault.
@@mrkipling2201 He did save you in the 83 cup final though! And Smith must score lol
northlondonisours gaz he certainly did!!! Mind you Smith didn’t exactly make it hard for him!!😂😂
Hannibal Barca he certainly did your right. He got injured at the 86 World Cup and never really played again. I went to his testimonial at the end of the 86/87 season at Old Trafford against an England 11.
Gary Bailey lost us the 1979 F. A cup final v Arsenal. It was his mistake that cost us big time.
2-0 up and we lose 3-2, story of much of the 80’s for us.
Great piece on Dagenham.MOTD was so much better back then.99% action.
1:30 "He's since married a Scottish GIRL!!"
Woaaah, calm down. I know he's an aussie but you know... maybe it's love...
and he played in Malaysian football in the 1990s.
Wow! That's well sad about the young lad at the start. RIP
The game is not the same without Brian Clough, he stood for everything that was good about the game, not a yes man like boring Gareth Southgate who just nods and says anything the FA ask him to do...RUBBISH 🇬🇧
Man United favourites for the title in 1984? Was this the season when they won their first ten games?
No it was the next season 1985/1986 when that happened and still managed to come 4th.
@@FCBarcelonalondon you're right. I think their first defeat was away to Sheffield Wednesday.
@@RobCLynch Yes that's right we lost to Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 which triggered implosion for us and we finished 4th.
@@RobCLynch In the first 15 matches of the 1985/1986 season we won 13( first 10 on the spin) and drew 2.Then came game 16 lost 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday and subsequently imploded.
Dreadful first touch from Alan Brazil, no way would he have scored had he not fallen over the keeper's legs.
You probably dont care but does anybody know a method to log back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb forgot the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!

What a strange reply to a post about Alan Brazil! No, sorry, I can''t help you with that. What's Instagram, by the way?
Tottenham penalty was ridiculous
@Hannibal Barca so are views differ why call me a name? Ignorant pig
Fuck me. What a terrible match. Shockingly bad skills from both sides. Seen better on the beach after a few pints.
