- It's Christmas! Patch notes have dropped, and we've finally gotten a taste of the new update! I'll cover the new content in more detail later, but for now here's a quick overview of almost everything!
While these notes mention almost everything new, it still kept a few secrets, and I'm sure we'll be discovering new things for a few weeks!

In reality, they fixed all the item ID bugs. In my heart, freaking out Lewis by wearing them was simply too powerful and needed limiting.

stardrop tea always gives 1 heart of friendship, unless it's their birthday, in which it gives 3. You can give an unlimited amount of them to someone in one day

And ConcernedApe said its gonna be a small update.. I mean sure based on the size, but in truth its a massive update and I'm loving it!

@@victory8928Way I see it, if CA wants to spend the rest of his life working on Stardew and finding new and interesting ways to update it, good for him. He's made a ton of money, written his name into the video game history book, and he could drop off the face of the earth tomorrow with his legacy secure.
But of course I can't wait to play Haunted Chocolatier if and when he finishes it and releases it for us!
He said it's going to be small AGES ago. Since then he's said that it grew way bigger.
I got the ‘socialize’ quest from Emily in my new save yesterday! It gives you two days to talk to everyone in town, basically a repeat of the introduction quest but on a timer. The reward is “everyone likes you a little more.”
I also got a ticket for Lewis's machine, which netted me a tree sapling. I always procrastinate on them since they're expensive. Unfortunately, it was an orange tree and I planted it on Summer 3 so it'll only produce in second year

I ended a day of fishing by losing a lingcod, then I pet my cat the next morning and it dropped one. My thought was 'how tf did you kill this thing you psycho'

Not closing the animal door doesn't reduce the "love" level. It just doesn't increase it. Closing the door gives you a little extra.
So if you don't close it, you lose out on some potential "love" gain, but you're not losing any actively.

Can we just take a minute to thank Concernedape for all his work on this game? This man talking about thing being minor and now it turns out there's enough content in this update alone that most companies would charge you for yet he's out here putting out these updates for free. If I could ever meet him I'd love to just shake his hand and thank him for all the work he put into this amazing game
Big change under fixes that I'm not sure he saw: 32:44 "Fixed rain totem used during a stormy day incorrectly making the next day stormy instead of rainy."
Didn't know that was a bug, but it was a really good way to farm a lot of battery packs in the lategame. Shame it's gone now
Ohhhh I did skip over the fixes section, that's pretty big
Another big one, "Fixed exploit where you could keep temporary items like Qi Fruit by selling them to Pierre and buying them back later." I believe that was finally the last way to preserve them gone, so now you have to do the Qi fruit quest "legit" each time.
Or, "Fixed tree stumps dropping seeds like full-grown trees." I never used it cause I didn't like leaving stumps around, but apparently a lot of people made use of this.
Also, "Fixed geode crusher “off-by-one” bug/exploit." So even more reason to use the geode crusher now that it doesn't cost coal, and you can't use it after Clint to dupe a prismatic shard or something.
The Jelly is not a fish, it's a food. You get it from fishing - just another consumable, but from the ones I've caught so far it's pretty good!!
More like algae and seaweed, they are still life, just not considered a fish by the game
I literally caught one that just gives me 30 max energy for half the day man I wish I found the other stuff
My early game fishing sessions are improved by being able to fish up a good food and eat it without cutting into my fish profit
@@Mystic-Midnighti haven't gotten the third jelly yet, but the ocean jelly gives +1 fishing for 7m alongside an energy and health restore, and sells for 200g.

This one change has consumed my thoughts. Who even asked for it? Yeet The Baby had an RNG element?
I've already got the iridium scythe and it's amazing. It adds the mod ability to harvest all your crops with it. It's so much faster to harvest crops with it than just going along, picking them out of the ground. With just a few swipes, you can harvest a whole field of crops. Great quality of life improvement.

You still might not be wrong. I read that patch note as a way of earning just a little more happiness to more quickly max out happiness; and if you choose to leave the door open then it will just continue working the way it always has. No penalty to happiness for leaving it open in other words.
Curious to find out which is the case though!
Came to comments to say this too! Sounds to me like he’s technically still right that you don’t need to close it to keep them happy, but you can for bonus points

It is amazing, still has a lot of space for crops. But now more livestock focus and with the livestock buffs and mods it will be a great one

6:50-ish He skipped over BOOKS YOU CAN READ TO GAIN PROFESSION XP, and also a unique 'book of stars' which grants xp for all professions/skills
10:10-ish TURTLE PETS, he skipped over TURTLE PETS! Hip hip hooray for the my long-lost cousins the ReptileEnjoyers

14:22-ish missed the graphical improvement of building interiors
15:04-ish Missed graphical improvement of intro bus scene, and hats having night textures in the menu when it's night in-game
15:10-ish Submerged bobbers now have a new texture to fit the fact they're underwater
29:42-ish chests still only move by 1 tile at a time when hit, whether it be fists or tools/weapons
30:45-ish Bunch of UI improvements, EG sounds in the night having an icon, and a sand hourglass cursor during loading screens. Too many things to type out read it yourself
32:29-ish Less random character randomisation, so basically you won't get farmer/goth clothing duos anymore, pans no longer give the same thing if you pan the exact same spot twice(rip speedrunners), and finally about page no longer hides the version number when there's a tool tip
32:33-ish Map screen no longer closes if you click on an Area Of Interest(tm)
32:35-ish He said how lewis goes to the library on winter sundays now, but he edited out maru and penny now hanging out on summer sundays, maru tinkering on summer mondays, and the biggest piece of it all: If you reach six hearts with an npoc they will no longer visit their rival love interest. This DOES NOT affect clint, unfortunately. Rather, alex visiting haley, elliot visiting leah, and haley visiting alex.

I don't like how "rival couples" won't visit each other anymore, rival marriage/events aren't even a thing, they're just friends, I don't own them!
I love that Eric implemented some elents from mods to be official in the game. 🙂. One of my favorites being the fact that you KNOW what animals you gave pets to.

the bookseller is actually pretty awesome, They sell books that help with gameplay (I dont wanna say anything else to spoil it, but its worth a visit when they are in town)
I dont like how "rival couples" won't visit each other after they become friends with you. There's not even rival events/marriage in the game, they're literally just friends! AND I can rizz up the whole town with almost zero consequences, why can't anyone else have a potential side piece??

Yeah! My buddy and I had that event last night. Ironically, his axe was _also_ at Clint's, though I had mine and was able to chop down the new trees. They're giant Fiddlehead Ferns! They drop like 20 dude it's great

Not gonna lie, the whole 'not being able to pick up rugs if there's stuff on them' fix is going to be an absolute lifesaver in my game. In my game, that's actually a common problem in the bedroom area of the farmhouse; there's this big purple rug that has a bed placed on it, 2 plushies, and a geode statue. Trust me, all of that stuff was an absolute pain in the rear to have to place again if I misclicked and accidentally picked that thing up. And that would happen like twice in the span of 3 in-game days 😵
I'll hazard a guess the 'cameo' for Maru 14 will be her robot friend (?) Y'know... I am always worried when 'updates' occur because I'm a casual gamer and don't go for the hard-mode scenarios EVER. It seems I'm still correct about this because Concerned Ape is definitely on to us all. He's watched our videos and knows how well we've adapted to the game. LOL
I love those updates that add features that were popular mods. Having these things added as actual official features is great because it not only means we need fewer mods on our list, but it also means less chance for mod conflicts, the feature updates with the game, and, of course, vanilla players can join the fun with them as official features. Most people in any game, even on PC, don't use mods.

This just gives me such a throwback to excitedly pouring over the 1.5 patchnotes. ConcernedApe always outdoes himself man
On Spring 17, I found a rainbow created by the waterfall next to the mouse house. It had a pot of gold that yielded a couple hundred gold and a leprechaun hat.

The Hat Mouse is just a small independent artisan and needed to raise their prices to properly compensate themselves for all that beautiful craftsmanship! Very proud of them ❤

I am loving the new update so much! It brings back the same joy of playing for the first time with the added excitement of it being a game I adore. So much fun! This feels like an overhaul to the game in just the right little ways to make it near perfect.
those new rooms are INSANE, two of them are absolutely huge, one small and conveniently places and one just another extra room too far for anything really but decorating but still decently big and I guess fine as replacement of sheds for soem purposes

Well, for sure I see it as possitive thing to have bigger rooms, so I surely hope my formulation didnt make it sound as if I didnt liked it but I was just surprised by how 'dining room' and that corner expansion room was.. now only if we could do something there as invite NPCs or have family time other than in multiplayer (and sure, I know some mods to provide that exist but to be honest what is out there to be not mod for it)

I play on console sadly so I haven’t gotten the update but from what I hear it’s pretty amazing.
I think I'm most excited for the Mastery System, the books, and the meadowlands farm, I started a save last night with it and I've never hit level 1 farming so fast. I mean, I'm not a min-maxer but holy crap that happened fast.

getting the text when you level up a skill was soo niice! i was confused at first but it makes sense that the crafting recipes would be ideas you’d get as you advanced in certain skills.

Little nitpicky detail. The patch list didn't say that animals lose hearts when you leave the door open, only that they gain it if you close it (with them inside) before you head to bed at night.
I’m so happy it tells us when we level up now! 🥰 also I got to the driving yourself to the desert thing and it reminded me that I noticed that when using a desert warp or obelisk and then using the bus to drive home, it was the player, not Pam, driving!

"Prize tickets" sound to me like the "merit points" system from Coral Island, which encourages players to participate in things like festivals and makes them worth doing. In that game, the rewards are pretty powerful because they unlock skill point boosts and perks.
This update pretty much turns SDV into a whole new game. I have deleted all my past saves and started a new. Gonna be lit.
The NPC schedules part under Other Changes actually contains what for my money is hands-down the worst change in this update. Do you enjoy destroying relationships in the pursuit of your own friendship goals? Because if you want to max friendship with everyone in the town, you're gonna make Alex & Haley and Leah & Elliott stop hanging out with each other! No, not by dating them. Just get six hearts. I know at six hearts of friendship I personally always make sure my friends stop seeing people they ever might have romantic interest in.
I already didn't love that storyline with Clint and Emily, but at least it was a one-off. Now it's a design philosophy.
Yowch, that's rough, especially when a lot of people were already disappointed in how spouses lose a lot of their original schedule
It's esp annoying for Leah & Elliot - they weren't even dating! They just seemed like art buddies! I may b biased bc I never married either of them, but it's sad to lose them hanging out :( added a bit more personality to the town
@@salmence100 I just can't get over that it happens at *six hearts*. I wouldn't love it if it happened after the bouquet for exactly the reason you mentioned: I like LIs having their own lives because my farmer certainly does. But with a bouquet, it would at least require you to do a deliberate action to trigger changes. The game intentionally encourages befriending all villagers, and now playing the game as intended causes two independent friendships to see each other less. Doesn't matter if you aren't doing anything whatsoever romantically at all. Still happens. It's such a bizarre choice.

This is just a reminder to anyone who is like scratching their heads at the jellies Gus during the *MOONLIGHT JELLIES* event says this “I wonder what they’ll taste like” and instantly remembers that they are talking to us the player and quickly adds with this “I won’t never eat the moonlight jellies” so yeah we now can add jellyfish to our tropical aquarium
(I started doing that with every new play through getting the deluxe fish tank and then fishing up every topic fish I can find and putting them in the deluxe fish tank made to be as comfortable as possible for my new little fishy house guests it’s just a pleasure that I enjoy 😊)

More than half way into new save spring, carrots are GREAT source of energy! The seeds can be dug up or exchanged at the prize machine. A gold star carrot gives 100+ energy. Early game this is so important. Salmonberry who?

ConcernedApe is the true game developer, he not only developed one of the best games in the history, but he is a person, not a corporation. Of course he still likes his money, but he truly knows what we want in the game, he is truly active and concerned about the community, if anything he is an inspiration to other game developers and honestly in general
What's crazy is how many changes this update made, which makes it feel almost like a Kind of like Stardew Valley extended 2.0 but it's also crazy that the mod author of Stardew Valley extended got to work with his friend who actually made the game in the first place so he was able to release an update to Stardew Valley extended on day one.

I waited to watch this until I’d put a few dozen hours into my new farm, and I’m so glad! I loved discovering (most) things on my own, but i doubly love seeing your reactions to the patch notes, especially the worm bin changes! 😅

Town trees being 'tree objects' probably means they get to count as 'old trees' eventually and provide moss? And I guess sap-able?
Along the new furniture catalogues I found one at Joja which has specific Joja selected items in it

I'm unnecessarily excited about little things like more custom dialogue and NPC reactions to things happening around them
I just found out that if you drink a mayonnaise in front of NPC, they will react to it.
The waterfalls are gorgeous. I don't always pay attention to background visuals in games so the fact that they immediately struck me as such a nice improvement says something.

Edit: apparently it’s because they used to not be unlocked until level 8 and I have never gotten past level 6 fishing in multiple saves LMAO I HATE fishing. I used to be so bad at it but as i got better it’s not so terrible now lmao
one thing that i did not see in the patch notes is that you can now buy nautilus shells from the travelling merchant.
This update added so much more than I expected, cant wait to get back into the game!

nerfed tea saplings, the geode crusher exploit, the qi fruit exploit -- some of my favorite survival tactics have been "fixed." : ( on the other hand, i got a way better weapon drop on like floor five. i'm sad, but i'm gonna keep playing.

I got the garbage furniture catalogue out of the garbo today! No idea how rare but I added the trailer co-op house by the greenhouse with a cookout outside and made it all trashy inside with stuff from the catalogue and I am in love 😂
