The creator of this show russel t Davies (who also brought dr who back) based it on his own experiences and stories he heard when he first moved to London in the 80s...

I completely recommend watching Dr Elliott Carthy's reactions to It's A Sin.
He's a gay forensic psychologist from the UK and he does a really good job of explaining the various presentations of HIV/AIDS as well as the medical thinking at the time.
I think you'll really enjoy them.
Like you, he reacted episode by episode, so you won't get spoilers if you watch episode 4 then watch his video on episode 4 etc.

At 8:01, the reason Ritchie is staring at the big mole on the guy’s back is because he’s worried it might be ‘Kaposi's sarcoma,’ which looks like a type of discolored skin blister - and is a symptom of advanced HIV.
At 12:05, someone in Collin’s mom’s neighborhood found out he had AIDS, so they left a box of 💩 on the mom’s doorstep as a scare/intimidation tactic to get him to move back out of the neighborhood.
At 15:45, the lady playing Ritchie’s casting agent is Tracy Ann Oberman. She was the head of Torchwood One in London and got turned into a cyberman at the end of season 2 of Doctor Who. Russell T. Davies, the show runner of Doctor Who for seasons 1-4 also wrote “It’s a Sin,” and he likes to reuse cast members from previous productions.
Also, Ritchie’s mom is played by Keeley Hawes. She was in the season 8 Doctor Who episode “Time Heist,” playing a bank executive during the heist.

I hate how I'm crying my eyes out so much just watching this reaction...I love this show so much for the amount of emotion and how well it introduces in a single episode that Colin has AIDS, and that each time someone has been affected by it they've had to cope with different struggles because it hasn't been the same thing that's taken each one. I am excited for you to watch the rest of this show and I hope you love it as much as I do.

I love "Its a Sin" so much that I've watched many videos on the reviews of it. Your video reviews of it are by far the best! Thank you for the videos

WOW! I'm LIVING for your ''soliloquy' after the episode. So well said. I absolutely agree with every word. Oh and ''It's a Sin'' - THE best drama series of 2021. Some 'sequences' in the episodes are not easy to watch, but every single episode is utterly superb, with some characters drawn from the life of the writer himself. When I first watched it, I was shaken by the thought that such attitudes and prejudices could have been so rife in the UK around 39 years ago...then I look around and see the mess my country is currently in and see very little has changed!!! ;)

If you want another short miniseries I'd recommend "years and years" written by same guy as this, is only 6 episodes long and really good

@AndresElRey The lesion that Richie was staring at was a Kaposi sarcoma. It's basically an indicator that you've crossed the threshold from HIV to AIDS. The most confusing part of KS to me is before AIDS, KS was only known to affect elderly men from the Mediterranean. The virus (from my understanding) was rare yet treatable because their immune systems weren't compromised. But in the early 80s, drs were seeing more and more gay men with kaposi sarcoma but in their case, it wasn't just on the skin, it was spreading to major organs. The whole thing makes me so sad and totally furious. Think of how many wonderful people would still be here had the government cared at all.

All whole generation of gay men lost, all that art, music, culture, all of it lost because of a backwards homophobic government, im trans in the uk and not much has changed just who they target with their bile, we deserve an apology for how our community has been treated over the many hundreds of years

The thing you wanted explaining about Colin's mum was that word had obviously got out Colin had AIDS and the stigma was so horrible that someone put a piece of shit in a parcel and posted it to taunt her for her connection to him.

always cry watching these reactions! And thank you for your discussion on the strange world of gay dating, it’s so disheartening when I find myself conforming to what people on online dating want me to be, whether that be masculine or they want me to dress up and be more feminine. It’s exactly how you described it, like why can’t we just be loved for who we are? An extremely important discussion that needed to be had and continued to be had!

As someone who experienced the AIDS crisis, I found this episode difficult to rewatch. I fast forward through some scenes. I just couldn't rewatch Colin's demise. I lost my brother to PCP and I saw a lot of young men in the hospital as my brother was in the hospital (he was in and out of the hospital a lot before he died).
