    Jo Sonja Magic Mix always works for me to dilute contrast paints and is pretty cheap for a giant bottle. Your editing style is one of my favorites on the internet; so funny!

    Many friends swear by Testors Dull Coat, but I like Vallejo matt the best. Also worth noting gloss or satin varnish is great to put down over your base coat but before contrast/washes as it makes them both flow more smoothly. If you want your wash to stain more hit it with a dull/matt coat. You can always varnish at the end and with paint on you can do stuff like Matt for the scales/carapace and gloss for fleshy bits/viscera/lenses and other areas you want to be glossy.

    Dont feel obligated to thin contrast or speed paint with contrast medium. Its kind of over priced for what it is. Use the following instead: 1/3 water, 2/3 matt medium (I use galeria acrylic medium because the 250ml bottle lasts forever) and add flow improver ( for a 10-20 ml batch 2 drops is enough, though exactly how much is personal preference). About $0.04 per ml. 20 drops roughly = 1ml mind you.
    Water works find 90% of the time. I bring this stuff out when I need a wash or to thin speed paints. Though for speed paint 2.0 I always add a bit of paint retarder to slow it down a bit.

      Thanks for the tip!! I don’t use as much this technique so for me its non a problem to use medium.. but I bet other people would find this useful! I’ll write it down for another video, if you allow me to! (:

    Maybe try a dry pallet for the contrast paints. I never had issues with cracking contrast paints.

    • @ataraxiapainting
      @ataraxiapainting  10 месяцев назад

      I actually never put them on the wet palette, it was just for the video to make clear what color was (because I usually use the cap of the wet palette that’s now pretty stained ahah)

    Not mentioning AK interactive liquid retarder and Golden wetting agent ( which breaks surface tension of your paint as an additive on the palette )

    I mighr be weird, but I kinda like glossy finishes on some models and materials. On fabric, it's a big no-no, but on stuff like a carapace, round gems or sweaty skin, a bit of of a natural reflection adds to it, I think. It won't look good in pictures, but I think it looks good when you move the miniature around.

    Army Painter “anti shine” is also a **very** good mat varnish/medium.

    • @beetle5000
      @beetle5000 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I use it for the same reason, I have about 4 different mediums that act slightly different with different brands of paint, ink and contrast paints. I love experimenting 😎👌

    • @beetle5000
      @beetle5000 10 месяцев назад +2

      Also using drying retarder is really good for small details as the paint doesn’t dry on the brush tip 😎

      if you havent tried ak ultramatt then i suggest trying it, cause i dunno if army painter have reformulated since i last used it but army painter anti shine is like a satin varnish. ak ultramatt is a completely different universe of mat, it completely kills all surface shine, it can be too matt at times for certain surfaces.

    I use Army Painter matte finish and it works well. Does AK Interactive work better? The only problem I have with AP's is that you get so little of it. Thank you for your hard work and knowledge.
