its horrible but ya that will be a factor. my mother was amazing i take great care of her. somehow responsibility for my elderly aunts and uncles has been implied to be my responsibility when thier own kids are horribly neglectful and selfish. the whole group of them are often horrible people so no I am openly refusing responsibility for anybody but my parents. btw i helped care for my elderly grandparents years ago, and these same aunts and uncles refused to help their own parents during that time. zero guilt here.

My cousin was an amazing wife and mother. Her husband abandoned her and moved across the country because it cost too much and was too stressful to take care of her after her accident that paralyzed her. The kids grew up without much of a bond to her(they were 4 and 6 at the time). They bonded more with their step mom . They don’t take care of my cousin and rarely visit. Glad your mom got to continue being a great mom and glad u will return the favor 💕

Never seen a reporter or anybody in this world ever asking a 6 or 7 year old child, or a teenager, growing up in an abusive household about their traumatic experiences, which are coming from their elders, their parents on regular basis, to help gauge the extent of damage on their still growing up little brains, the still growing and expanding neural circuitry and structure, the emotional body and their senses, which is going to impact significantly their functioning and get them struggling in the society later on.
Never seen it. Also never seen the same child going to the police station and complaining about their parent's abusive behaviors, physical and verbal abuse, towards each other or towards the child.
Nobody seen it probably. And just because nobody seen it does not mean that no child is living in an abusive and trauma inducing household. It happens in silence in varying degrees, across the society, and to which the outside world is oblivious, and that state of oblivion there is by choice. Such children suffer for years and decades, and their suffering often fails to find a voice.
    Real life recent example:
A man in his 60s, with adult children who are doing well and living all together, committed suicide last year. That man's mother is still living. And that mother's second son, who was in his 50s, died by alcohol over consumption, and the third son, whom I have met and known who wouldn't care for his health, died by heart attack in the beginning of this year. That mother is very narcissistic and cruel and she's still alive, currently living with her daughter.

Parents need to start preparing for their futures better. People want to bash the children...But I noticed alot of baby boomers try to manipulate and pacify their kids and want their kids to take care of them when they get older. When Baby boomers parents never looked at them as some crutch the could use in the future. My Grandparents generation were independent and didn't look to be taken care of until they absolutely needed it. I think kids feel compelled to abandon their parents because parents can be narcissistic. For instance, the gentleman who was left at the hospital by his sons and abandoned. Did anyone ask them why they did that?
