  • Memorable Day has grave but happily harmless sequel. New Colours for the Guards and an impressive speech by His Majesty ... them immediately afterwards a shocking revolver incident on Constitution Hill ... The whole Empire rejoices that no hurt was done to it's devoted Sovereign King Edward VIII.
    Close shot of the King in uniform riding onto Hyde Park. Parade ground. His uniform is Grenadier Guards. The King rides up the lines of Grenadiers and Scots Guards. Shot of dais and Queen Mary, Duchess of York, Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret on same. The King salutes. Other members of the Royal Family are present. Close shot of Princesses with mothers (mostly rear view). Shot of the colours being dipped as they march past the King. The King walks onto platform and the ceremony is performed with the Chaplain of the forces. He consecrates the colours. The King then addresses the troops. Close shots of the King speaking. The King then presents the new colours. The colours are marched in slow time. Shot of the marchpast . Close shot of the troops marching past the King who is taking the salute. (This is an impressive shot although only the back of the King is seen). Very good close shot of the Guards marching past the camera. The King rides off. Static shots of the incident on the hill. Scenic shot of Constitution Hill. Men and detectives talking (these shots are before the static pictures). Policeman dismounted and police keep back crowd. Policeman kicks aside revolver. Shot (static) of the culprit being held by two police. Shot of 'Police Court' sign over Bow Street Court. Car drive up to same. Street scene around this area. Newsboy sells papers. Close shots of placards. CU King saluting.
    NB - George McMahon was the name of the would-be assassin.

      Charles originally had 5 O-levels, most children leave school with 8 to 12 (or modern equivalent GCSEs). He failed maths which ordinarily excludes you from university but was tutored for another two years to get a very basic level before leaving school. In an ordinary comprehensive school he would've been near the bottom of the class and that's not accounting for him actually having one of the most expensive educations available. He's clearly not very intelligent.

    • @AndyHarpist
      @AndyHarpist 7 лет назад +19

      Indeed, Charles would make a fine King if the press left him alone.But I cite another reason. Despite the bile coming from women against "his treatment of Diana" he represents the success of a SECOND marriage. She may not be a beauty and he may not either but they HAVE made it work and they should be celebrated for that alone. People DO make mistakes they get divorced and sometimes can find the right one a second time round. Many women should rather notice this. So good luck to them both for that alone.

    • @kevinlongman007
      @kevinlongman007 7 лет назад +30

      The original 'changing of the guard' ceremony involved a member of the household cavalry sexually defiling and then strangling a live penguin in the middle of Horse Guards Parade. It was not uncommon for onlookers to faint due to the shocking nature of the scene.
      The ceremony was altered in 1891 due to reports that visiting foreign dignitaries had described the spectacle as 'upsetting' and 'barbaric' Keen to avoid a diplomatic incident, the penguin element of the ceremony was removed completely.

    It is Thursday 16th of July 1936, the 42nd birthday of HM King Edward the Eighth. As the film shows, he takes the Salute at The Trooping of the Colours.
    The "assassin" was an Irish journalist called George Andrew MacMahon, real name Jerome Brannigan, who held a grudge against the British Hone Secretary Sir John Simon.
    King Edward saw the object as it landed between the hooves of his horse, his immediate and instant reaction was that was a bomb or a grenade . MacMahon was sentenced to twelve months hard labour for "producing a revolver with intent to alarm the King."

      The colours have the monogram of the reigning monarch and are replaced after the death of the current king or queen and the crowning of the new.

      One bear per bearskin. British pathé has a great video on it. They actually purchase the hides from an annual cull of black bear populations in Canada.
