I have depression... the thing I relate more aren't the lyrics... it's the moment he sreams silently, or fight with the void (i always burst in tears watching that)..... and the head tilt at 4:40
My mom died due to a cancer a month before this video was uploaded and as you said I had suicidal thoughts and I felt connected so much with this music I listened again and again to make me feel better
His older work is great too, (he has been on hiatus, that's when his depression hit him) Try for instance 'Formidable' and we'll take you from there. ;) Outside the Anglo-Saxon world he's a huge artist.
If it helps, the vocals in the beginning and in the refrain are traditional Bulgarian. This is a very traditional folklore singing and it is known for having an epic or if you wish - cosmic sound. The leading vocalist is Stefka Miteva who is the founder of this Paris-based Bulgarian folklore trio Orenda.
All Stromae's songs are deep, meaningful and extremely human. That's the reason to have millions of fans that were wating for him for years when he lived a bad moment
This whole album is filled with these eclectic combinations of genres from all over the world, and as an eclectic composer myself I love what he does. He takes a very classical progression (I-bIV-II-V7) and combines it so respectfully with suicidal thoughts and ideas from dubstep. Who the hell could do that?
It's L'enfer (Infierno in Spanish/Hell in English). You heard the Orenda Trio chanting at the beginning of the song. Stromae collaborated with them and wonderfully featured the Bulgarian style and culture in choral singing.
Stromae is my favourite artists, he is bringing the beauty of the French language and artistic expressions to the world. A must-listen is "Sante" with means "cheers" and "health".
This track is so special and important to me as a fan. The fact that after coming back from such a long hiatus from putting out any music he was so willing to be vulnerable about his personal struggles is amazing. I am and always will be a Stromae stan. React to Papaoutai!
Stromae is a great artist. Somehow you seem to always stumble into something I'm listening to at the moment! Check out his song 'Santé' too, it's got a really cool trippy feeling to it!
You should definitely do some of his songs off Racine carree like papaoutai, carmen, ta fete, tous les memes his songs are so deep and his videos are amazingly artistic. Love the jinjer tshirt!
I would like to see more of your special reading on other Stromae songs. We speak the same language so I guess I have a bit more of a connection with him but even outside of the lyrics he's a complete artist: composer, singer, performer, and even did "Lessons" on RUclips a decade ago. Lesson 16 is about the intro song "Welcome to my place" which says it all, and the "not a lesson" one "Formidable" is a hidden camera performance, both are subtitled *wink* Anyway keep it going, it's cool content 👍
The chants at the start are a "clin d'oeil" to bulgare people, they are called "Bulgarian chants", he wanted to catch directly at the start of the song the interest and confusion of the listener. Ence why you heard them during the song around the middle. Here's an example of bulgarian chants : ruclips.net/video/TvoVuOC_KKE/видео.html
When I read these subscribers reactions its not about this video. That's a pity. Stromae is probably the purest, most creative and out of the box artist in this era.
L’enfer in my opinion is a brilliant piece of work. I’ve had the CD with this on it for about 2 weeks. L’enfer in this case is hell. I thought it was literally Inferno. The song is about his own journey through anxiety and depression.
I feel so sad thinking that someone out there feels the same as i do and i wish i could be there at least as a shoulder to cry on... The irony is that we can't cry on our own shoulders.
Nice little improv, David :-). Yup, Stromae right there. He's been an item in Europe for quite a while now (since around 2010, I believe) and he went on hiatus for a few years, if I'm not mistaken. And his songs aren't always about depression, don't worry. Many of them are personal, though. If you want to check him out, you should start with his hits: Papaoutai, Ta fête, Alors on dance, to name but three. Musically what he does is always catchy, but you should pay special attention to the lyrics. If you don't speak French, it'll be difficult though, since it's generally everyday spoken French with a bit of slang mixed in. Pretty hard to translate. Actually his stage name, Stromae, is a version of the word "maestro" where he switched the syllables around. A typical thing in "verlan", which is the slang French that young people spoke in the 90ies/2000s . Incidentally: Dirty Loops did a cover version of his song "Ta fête": ruclips.net/video/d511o2fbUUI/видео.html .
It's not that translating them is difficult, but translation does not do the song justice (as per usual). And if i may, L'enfer u should pronounce as the english words 'on' en 'fair' (but keep the 'n' real soft :p) with the 'l' in front of it of course. L'enfer, c'est les autres ;)
nooo you are underestimating it. I am from Germany, with admittedly some french influence, but Papaoutai was in our charts as well and I have listened to l´enfer and especially santé before seeing this video. Also Zaz is one of my favorite french artist, so trust me, we know what´s going on!
Are you for real? wym never anything french outside the country. What about Jacques Brel, Adamo, Arno, Axelle Red,... Arno is knighted in France ffs and Stromae has been known throughout the world for years now. 🤷🏾♂️
Went to his concert in Rome 2014, it was the best live show I've been to. His older stuff is phenomenal as well. On the subject of pop, can we get a Tove Lo reaction? She's criminally underrated. 'romantics' or 'hey you got drugs?' are great places to start IMO. As always, thanks for the amazing content you make for us :)
Long time viewer and short time commenter but I have been a long listener of Jinjer, Spiritbox, Sleep Token etc. I will not stop commenting until you do something by "Immenece" songs like Ghost, Surrender, Temptation. But my personal favorite is Ghost by them. Much love man. You're such a gift to the world.
Hi last night there was a collabs between Ed Sheeran en Bring me the Horizon on the Brit awards they did together live the song bad habits. this is a really nice duet between the punk/metal and the pop scene
Would love to see you react to some newer Trivium songs. "Crisis of Revelation" and "The Sin and the Sentence" spring to mind. Both are on their official channel (Crisis of Revelation doesn't have a music video sadly).
Long time follower of your channel, first time commenting. I would LOVE to see you react to some City and Colour. Dallas (city) Green (color) is incredibly talented and you would appreciate his style and skills. From playing guitar and doing clean vocals in Alexisonfire to just him and a piano in City and Colour or You+Me. Just a few suggestions, despite every song being worthy... 1st choice is Happiness by the Kilowatt (live) then any of - Sleeping Sickness - Save Your Scissors - Day Old Hate - Capsized or You and Me from You+Me, which is him and Alecia Moore (P!nk). Thanks!
Please, listen and react to the song Mr/Mme by Loic Nottet : 6 minutes long and very sincere song about mental health. It's in french with english subtitles (Loic is a young songwriter and dancer from Belgium, just like Stromae)
Sorry about my random and pointless comment, but I have to tell you that you really remind me of Sam Seder... the resemblance is striking! And since Sam also lived in Connecticut, this resemblance might be more than a coincidence. *"Pause it!"*
Time has come for me to inform you that there is a British Awards show where Ed Sheeran collaborated with Bring Me The Horizon and they Tuned Ed's song "Bad Habits" into one giant spectacle, so there's that. If there only was one certain reaction to it.....
Plz react to the Two new song of Stromae a belgium speaking french (With english subtitles for both), really famous in Europe and his beat are insane : - Stromae - Fils de joie (About sex worker and the view of many different people about it) : ruclips.net/video/M7Z2tgJo8Hg/видео.html - Santé (About make a salute to people with hard work and "invisible" in society) ruclips.net/video/P3QS83ubhHE/видео.html - Stromae - quand c'est ? (About Cancer with a word play with) : ruclips.net/video/8aJw4chksqM/видео.html
Dear music teacher, learn from the real artists. Like from Stromae you can learn how to keep music very simple and how to strip it from unnecessary "decorations". The things you have added to his music in your improvisation, those baroque "beauty decorations" is what makes music cheap and forgettable. Music becomes powerful when it's telling a story without unnecessary side stories. it goes directly to the soul. Learn from Stromae.
Reacting to a ready-made, processed, compressed, corrected song that already has several post-production effects is ridiculous. Do a live vocal analysis.
"I have to watch him now" Man, be very grateful that Stromae has returned. He is the definition of the word "Artist".
Was hoping you would react to this! Stromae is a phenomenal artist, as a Belgian I'm proud he's made waves
I have depression... the thing I relate more aren't the lyrics... it's the moment he sreams silently, or fight with the void (i always burst in tears watching that)..... and the head tilt at 4:40

I am French and I appreciate your input ...Stromae went into a break for 7 years, now he is back 🙌 after 7 years of getting healing
I love Stromae! Glad to see people who aren’t speaking French enjoying his work. ❤️ Much love from Quebec ❤️
It's L'enfer (Infierno in Spanish/Hell in English). You heard the Orenda Trio chanting at the beginning of the song. Stromae collaborated with them and wonderfully featured the Bulgarian style and culture in choral singing.

Writing music is already difficult enough, but to write what is truly in your heart and to put it in a song, is so underrated
Stromae is a musical genius. One of a kind
Try "Formidable" from 2013, it is a great song. And the video is incredible too. stroMae is a "Maestro" (master).
This track is so special and important to me as a fan. The fact that after coming back from such a long hiatus from putting out any music he was so willing to be vulnerable about his personal struggles is amazing. I am and always will be a Stromae stan. React to Papaoutai!
Yea the brutal honesty in this song is amazing! Well done! Thanks for reviewing this!

L'enfer = hell in French. Pronounced a bit like "lunfair".
You should react to more of his song, Stromae really is a genius! My sugestions: Santé, Tous les mêmes, Papaoutai!

Awesome seeing francophone music on the channel !
Glad you reacted to this song as this is a topic not spoken of enough.
OMG Stromae on this channel, that's so weird, we never have anything French making it outside of the country so that feels weird
nooo you are underestimating it. I am from Germany, with admittedly some french influence, but Papaoutai was in our charts as well and I have listened to l´enfer and especially santé before seeing this video. Also Zaz is one of my favorite french artist, so trust me, we know what´s going on!

@@djee475 I have no idea who Arno is, and for Brel, Red and Adamo, they're all very old artists, nothing contemporary
I hate to be this person but as a Belgian I have a duty 😅 he’s belgian, not french ☺️💙
Technically it’s Belgian. And stromae is well known in Europe
when you start to play some notes....it's even better!
Did you know him ? Please look at his music he's incredible!
Formidable, Tous les mêmes, Carmen, Quand c'est.... All are with subs.
Pleaaaaaaase
I love Stromae. Your reaction and comments were great!

He was also saying that he doesnt feel better that others feel like him, and thats ok, we all take our own mental health journeys
