  • Wow... I just reacted to Hyunjin's "when the party's over" and I had to watch this 3 times. In this video, I share my true thoughts upon this piece.
Let me know what you want me to watch! Or better yet, suggest another type of content I should make that could help you learn more about dance! Whether you're an aspiring dancer, training to be a K-Pop idol, or just want to appreciate the art of dance-
I want to share my knowledge with YOU.
    Hope ya'll enjoy this video!
    Quick about me:
My real name is Tad, but DonKawaii/Don was simply an IGN name I created playing FF14 online, so I kinda just rolled with it. Lol. You can call me either one. I am also a teacher, and I teach people dance. And normally, I teach my students dance through sharing my own choreography, giving people drills or exercises to build foundation and technique. and I've been dancing for 15 years mainly growing up through Hip Hop dance culture, but have also taken inspiration from other dance artforms such as ballet, jazz, and tap. And how I got into K-Pop was because the main three groups, Wonder Girls, Big Bang, and SNSD. That followed with other things hallyu like korean dramas, variety shows, and the rest is history.
    FAQs:
Why "Dance Teacher" even though you say "Dance Mentor"?
I actually consider myself both. I am not just someone who teaches dance, but I resonate more as a mentor who is there to help, train, or advise dancers to take steps into the right direction. "Dance Teacher" is a title that just makes it easier for newer people to understand what I do.
Do you actually know or speak Korean?
Baby levels. I've studied Korean 한국어 for 1 year when I was in community college. I can read and write in Korean, but I still have trouble speaking and formulating sentences.
Have you ever worked for any K-Pop artists in terms of creating choreography, backup dancers, etc.?
Yes, but not directly or in-person. I have partaken in choreography submission projects/demos under the direction of dancers such as Pat Cruz (Kinjaz, The Company), Larkin Poynton (Project Home), and Alo Galedo (Brotherhood, The Company).

Hyunjin said that he thought the feeling of loneliness and emptiness that came after a show was similar to the feeling after a party is over and those were his feelings that he was trying to get across so definately it's very personal

in this piece, hyunjin managed to show his potential, not just as a dancer, but as a true artist. at least to me. his moves seem to be so full of emotion, so raw and even instinctive (?) i can “feel” the story he’s telling. it’s so beautiful and powerful to the point i don’t really pay any attention to the technical aspects of the performance. it is an art piece indeed.

After watching my kids go through Preprofessional and professional dance training for 14 years it floors me every time I remember that he is not formally trained, he had only been dancing for the last few years. He catches pieces of music that my kids would never even think to dance to. You choose lyrics or music to dance to…..but he literally dances to sound effects and single background sounds. He dances to the wobble in her voice. I wonder if the fact that he is also a rapper helps. He raps in a unique way, his flow has a lot of sharp starts and stops, alliteration and voice pitches. It’s interesting to see that carry over into his dancing

Hyunjin left an explanation for this piece from the description, here is the translation:
“I thought back to the hardest time in my life while creating the choreography for this song.
“First, the reason I chose this song was because-while searching for a song that was best-suited to the three themes of emptiness, despair, and longing-I thought that the emptiness that comes when the party’s over is the same feeling as the loneliness you feel returning home after performing on a huge stage, already missing that [stage].
“I tried to express that feeling to the best of my ability, and I hope that it was conveyed [through the video].” (@soompi)
Great review again, I really like hearing from you. Thank you for this, skz are very busy so there's not a lot of this but there's another member who released a choreography video too but with an original track, check out skz player Lee know - Dawn. For group, I recommend you to watch Miroh dance practice.

Thank you a lot for this reaction!
I always appreciate it when people who know about singing, rapping or in your case dancing help fans who might not catch certain things understand their pieces better.
This might be more relevant to the play with fire choreo but hyunjin is known to be a lot into photography as well so I think it's safe to assume that he also fully or partially decided the camera angles etc. Meaning that you can interpret a lot into that as well. Here with the duality you talked about with the light and the dark and in play with fire in the beginning there was a moment when he looked back but you could still see his reflection in the mirror and the line was "got secrets I cant tell".
This underlining from the camera work is likely to be his decision as well.
I love your reactions maybe you could react to the miroh dance practice or lee knows player "dawn"?

Photography or even cinematography is a huge complimentary skill for dance film in general. So that's really nice to hear that he's into other forms of art!

@@DonKawaii1 he is. Hyunjin can also paint and draw, he has a drawing of his dog and of a picture of himself and there is also a recent flower painting of his. I know it's not relevant to this video it's just a FYI.

Thanks for reacting to this piece! There are a couple of other solo dance pieces by different members such as Dawn by Lee know and a trio dance by danceracha. For checking out the group stuff I’d personally suggest the side effects performance video the easy dance practice and the miroh dance practice! Or if you want to see more of their more playful side the get cool or awkward silence dance practices!

Owww thank you for your reaction!!!! I'm so happy !!!! I hope you begin with your Stray Kids journey soon. Maybe in chronological order like you did with the Dreamies? They have different kind of genres through their eras, but the music is always so good and the dance practices are incredible. You're going to disect more of Hyunjin's dance (and the other members abilities) there. I always recommend this song becasuse the dance is super fun: ruclips.net/video/1inY1P4Xn6Y/видео.html
Fun fact: Ateez members are pretty close with Stray Kids. Wooyoung is one of Changbin's best friends (with Yeonjun from TXT). Changbin is my bias by the way hahahaha he's one of the main rappers and he's on another level honestly... his rap is insane.
Stray Kids did a collab stage with NCT Dream at the 2019 MBC Music festival. They permormed different old school songs, even Fantastic Baby by BigBang hehehehe and Love Shot by EXO.
    Thanxxx again :D

"There's no percussion in this song"
Random side point but actually it's almost entirely percussion. Coincidentally Korean doesn't even use the phrase "I play the piano." It literally translates "I 'hit' the piano."
I knew ehat you meant tho lol.
