Hey that’s correct, the gateway needs to paired you with the cbrs radio. There are different prices based on indoor and outdoor models. You can see the full list here: - indoor approx 2k and outdoor around 2.5k shop.bobcatminer.com/products/bobber-500/?ref=xO-Nuzdb2VFMH
Hey Kholakhre, this is in reference to earning more HNT for providing different coverage, compared to a miner not 5G compatible. The 300's personally were great, and I still have some earning 0.5 per day, however the ones placed in the city are not performing as great, earning about 0.01HNT a day.
Hey Lee, that’s the thing, not sure about Canada, but in the UK usually telecom companies place in bids to acquire a certain spectrum band. Unless they allow an open source one, then It will be difficult for Helium to evolve unless they place a bid, but the cost of this must be insane .
Hey BayJay, technically no, as you won't be maxing your location. As they both mine using LoRa coverage, it's ideal to have them operated in 2 different locations.
Thanks for the video! Can you explain the added benefit of including "radio" in purchase... i.e. what do you miss out on if you only buy the gateway (~$960 cost) vs. adding radio (~$2360). Much appreciated.
Hey Matthew, currently without the radio you won't have the benefits of mining via 5G. With just the gateway it is like having any other miner, which mines HNT by providing LoRa coverage. Hope that clarifies your question.
Hey, you forgot about how Bobcat scammed their bobcat 300 owners. We paid $500 per unit, now you cant onboard them. Bobcat will not respond. Its Bobcats responsibility to add DC tokens to the network so that bobcat 300s can be onboarded. But they wont. How long till they scam the 5G owners? Do you have a company contact? I want to talk to them. Do you think if this turns out to be a scam, that you should be held liable for promoting it?
Hey Bradly, I am also part of the we. I had purchased the 300's, but sold many prior to the end of the last bullrun. I have not had much luck with any communication from Bobcat since the last bull cycle, even across the discord/telegram channels. There has been no official support for a while, also stuck with a 5G unit which is useless. There is no liability from my side, as I am not affiliated with them, and only providing information which is readily available on the internet, just in a condensed and easier way to digest.
Realised I didn't back to you on this Puck, super delayed reply so sorry. You can use the same cabling, it actually comes with the same 4dbi antenna for LoRa. The main change is the additional ethernet cabling to route to the CBRS radio.
Hey Jimmy. Mining both on the same device is applicable. If you don't connect the device to a CBRS radio small cell, then it will only mine HNT for LoRa coverage. If you connect it to a small cell, it will mine both.
On my Bobcats website theres a purchase option Gateway/radio. If I purchase the radio version do I need the small cell to use it at all or is this something I can upgrade or purchase later
Hello, good to see you again. I have a question I currently have a helium miner at my house in a residential area and ordered a 5g with 3 radios and plan to install it at my house can this be done without any problems, so both miners in the same location a 5g miner and a regular helium miner. Also can I install an amplifier and filter with an 8dbi antenna to the 5g miner? I am getting excellent results with the regular miner. Thanks for your help in advance
Hey Anibal, apologises for the delayed reply. The only interference would be the mining of IOT, as they both will mine IOT from the same location. Tbh i'm not sure how accurate Helium can detect both miners running from the same location, you could initially give it a try and see if there is much conflict with IOT. I have never tried the amp and filter, so this would be new to me, if you do, let me know how it runs. Currently in the process of running a 5G indoor CBRS radio, and its performing ok, but there are hardly ay other 5G miners around for it to connect to. Slowly slowly I guess, with the growth of the 5G network. Hope that helps.
Hey Glenn, it is hard to determine, as it based on many variables, such as amount of users using the 5G network in the area, the signal, and the value of HNT. In hindsight, populated areas which use the Helium network are good for 5G, most likely San Fran for now. However for LoRa coverage, it's better to deploy the miner in-between, not too populated and not too secluded.
Realised I didn't back to you on this Creme, super delayed reply so sorry. Like any other project, theres always risk involved to go in, personally believe in the project for the long term, hopefully 🙏 it does take off.
Hey, I still think it's a reasonable investment for the long term. At the start it was really good, and then many people saw the profit, so they jumped on board fast, demand was high and supply was low, and now it's the bear market, and the tables have turned. If a bull cycle comes again and people start seeing profits, it will be a repeat. Getting in now and accumulating for the long term is risky but will have its rewards, but this is only if you believe in the project and what it is trying to achieve.
The thing that really helped HNT grow is how cheap the units were, I see this high price point as a huge hurdle for a majority of people and you will not see the same sort of adoption as you did with the 300
Realised I didn't back to you on this Audie, super delayed reply so sorry. With the price and bear market, I completely agree, the adoption will be slower, however that is an advantage for those that get in early for the genesis phase to earn tokens that might be of good value. Personally for me it's long term, so just holding on tight for the future.
Hey Jeff, most welcome. Atm they haven't mentioned a drop date, I'm staying in tune with Bobcats Twitter, where they usually drop the announcements first. If I here anything, I will be sure to mention it within my community page.
Hey Jeff, I have pinned further information regarding a pilot testing program for the Bobber 500 at the top of this page, which might be of help. They are intending to send out the initial batch as a part of a pilot program. I've provided further links for more information.
Hey Trails, it’s based on radio frequency, it won’t be able to operate in the UK as it’s a completely different spectrum band. Hopefully soon 🙏🙏🙏 will keep the community updated if I come across any news.
If anyone selling their bobcat 300 because there's too many hotspots already in your hex and your bobcat just arrived, let me know and I'll buy it from you, if you're in the US, so you can recover what you paid for.
Don't waste your time ordering from Bobcat. It's taking 9 months to get a Bobcat 300 delivered,I'm sure this 5G Bobber 500 will take damn near 2 years to ship! Don't do it!!!
Hey Dailey, I think others are in the same boat, which of course is due to the high demand of bobcats. Now the demand has slightly loosened up, hopefully they will expedite shipping orders.
@@Crayban No there's other more professional/reputable companies out there that doesn't take almost a year to ship a miner like Bobcat does. MNTD ships their HNT miners out in less than 2 weeks. Panther ships within 2 months from what I have heard and Sensecap is currently shipping immediately through Parley Labs. So Bobcat are just flat out lying to their customers who've spent their hard earned money for their miners. If they didn't allow scalpers to order 100's at a time then they wouldn't have shipping problems. There should be a 5 miner limit per order. But to make the problem worse they keep lying to their customers like we're stupid. Bobcat support sent out an email in January saying that they're opening a warehouse and are going to speed up the shipping process, but that was a lie too. They have still only been shipping out a few hundred orders per week, so no their shipping is not faster,if anything it's slower than ever! So no it's not a chip issue or supply chain issue it's pure greed and deceit on their part. The greed is taking orders only via crypto payments and not allowing refunds when it's their fault they keep pushing back the shipping time over and over again! Originally when I ordered in September they gave me a 12-20 week shipping ETA, then pushed it back to 20-28 weeks. I'm on week 25 already and my order is still about 2 months away from shipping which will put the total time for me to receive it at around 33 weeks! That's totally ridiculous and by the time I get my miner I'll be lucky to even recoup my investment money back due to HNT earnings continuing to diminish!!
Hi Heejung, most welcome. The main difference is that the Bobber 500 can earn extra for 5G coverage. However, 5G is still in its infancy. No need to worry, the 300 is still a great miner . You can read more here: bobcatminer.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4588536001435-Overview
Hey Guy, sorry for the delayed reply. Unfortunately not, as they will be sending out the same LoRa signal to the same area. Best to place them in different locations.
Hey Tim, it all depends on the location and height of your antenna. Just dropped a video that goes through this. The Bobber 500 will not be able to be used in Africa, only LoRa hotspots. ruclips.net/video/itZ_eieJgdc/видео.html
Hey Chris, most welcome. I think Bobcat will be selling these units in the next few weeks, cost wise, I had covered within the video 02:12 Approx $2500 start up costs. In the UK, I don't think it will be available any time soon, there is no open source 5G spectrum band. Till this is made available or Helium buy a certain spectrum band, then 5G helium miners still won't be able to operate. The 300 will still earn HNT for providing LoRa coverage and won't be obsolete, however it won't be able to earn extra for 5G.
Hey Xariann, phones will be able to use it, however the carrier needs to be using the Helium 5G network. Atm I believe it is only GigSky that will use it.
Hi again, so this will be indoors signal or outdoor, what else do we have to purchase antenna don’t see a clear strategy for deployment? Great video like always.
Hey there, apologies for the super delayed reply. An antenna is required to enable Lora coverage, for the 5G, you will require the freedom fi cell. Hope it makes sense, I still am yet to unbox and set mine up, hopefully this week.
Hey Nathan, they haven’t set an exact date, but should be before the end of this month. Once I know any info, I will drop it on the community page of my channel. Usually the latest info on the release date will come direct from there Twitter account.
Hey Nathan, I have pinned further information regarding a pilot testing program for the Bobber 500 at the top of this page, which might be of help. They are intending to send out the initial batch as a part of a pilot program. I've provided further links for more information.
Hey Smoking Dabs, sorry for the delayed reply. I have not yet tested out antennas on the bobber 500, but a good bet on generic antennas that do well are 5.8 dbis. But this will also depend on your location.
Thanks SK, Defo, I'm sure Bobcat will be deploying one of the first light hotspots. However they will only focus on Data, and not coverage. Also interested to see how it all plays out.
Hey, having both in the same household won't work great as they'll be providing the same coverage. Would recommend shifting one to a different location, at least within the next hex.
Setting a indoor 5G small cell in residential area does not make sense. The coverage is so small that you can only cover your neighbor’s house. And your neighbors will likely to use their own Wi-Fi if they are at home. Your 5G hotspot will have no data to offload with.
Thank you for this video. I am 3,000 on the MNTD blackspot queue so I will be ordering that sometime in the next few days. I saw the news this morning and felt a little sad, until seeing the investment cost of the 5G setup, not quite ready to spend that much yet.
Hi Alex, it's defiantly a hard hitting cost. Probably worth it once you make the initial ROI back from the MNTD and have a solid location to place a 5G miner. It's still early days. :)
@@Crayban Exactly! I am a believer in the technology and crypto, so I will support the network no matter how profitable it is. I got a 3080 last winter before the btc price dip and I have been happily mining ever since, and just hit my ROI. Right now a lot of people are bummed out about HNT profitability but people in my area get as much (in fiat) as my 3080 FE and 2070 do mining ETH, and they are both in seperate rigs. If you include the price of a tower, MB, processor, powersupply, GPU's a mining rig is wayyy more of an investment than these HNT miners. It's exciting to realize how early we still are, even with all of the attention in the media.
What is the difference between the freedomfi gateway and the bobber 500? Since I need a cbrs small cell for the bobber 500 will I also need the freedomfi gateway since it comes as a bundle via freedomfi website? And if I have the 5g setup in my place will I also better 5g service for myself regardless my cellphone provider? Thank you for the information you provided on this new product. It's a game changer. 💯
Hey MR CT, Tbh specs wise they are relatively similar, they will perform the exact same. Just like buying current hotspots from different manufactures. You will only need a freedom fi small cell, and this can be attached to a Bobber 500. To make use of the 5G yourself, you will require to have a provider that uses the Helium network such as Gigsky. Hope this is of help.
Bobcat is running Freedomfi gateway software. So it’s basically the same thing except the bobcat comes with wifi built in the freedomfi does not . They have come up with a software update for the fredonfi to go wifi
Hey Ibrahim, not yet, until the UK provide an open source 5G frequency band for companies to build on and use. Or if Helium purchase a 5G frequency band, but thats super costly.
It will defo take some time, with the current state of the crypto market + amount of miners on board. Hopefully the price of HNT rockets in the next few years.
@@Crayban lol I made that comment and what did I do? I went and bought a freedonfi with small cell radio . I can’t help myself I guess I’m asking for punishment lol. Got the complete setup thru MosoLabs. Had everything in stock got it two days later. Excited about the coin system they are making for these miners. Keep up the great work really enjoy your videos
Hi Kenny, thanks for the support as always. To be honest, not fully sure. Hopefully Helium are having talks or making the right connections for it to broaden into the EU. If I come across any news, I will be sure to share it across my channel.
Honestly depends on location, height and setup. I still have miners earning 0.5HNT a day, which is good for the current structure of the network. However without the price of HNT rising, it's hard to see long-term motivation in the community to keep miners running. Only those who believe in the project will mine for the long run.

Absolutely great content mate, at the forefront with Intel, loving the video brother, much love from the North
Thank you Zeno, been a while, hope all is good. Hopefully see the rise of Helium 5G out in the UK.
@@Crayban it was always going 5g at some point but I live in a suburbs so not much use to me 🤣
@@meta-zeno505 Haha, the suburbs is doing well for IOT haha. For 5G, i'm sure it'll take years.
Some are smashing in mate, I'm stuck under the unfortunate ones that's not doing well at all 😂
I have been 2following you for a while now, I learnt so much from your videos therefore from your knoledge. Great job man !!
Hey Matteo, thanks so much for the continuous support, it is always appreciated. Hope it has been of help :)
What is the best antenna to have with this I ordered both the bobber and the radio just need to know any advice?
Hey Smoking Dabs, sorry for the delayed reply. I have not yet tested out antennas on the bobber 500, but a good bet on generic antennas that do well are 5.8 dbis. But this will also depend on your location.
I ordered the previous model in September, still nothing ☹️
Hey Almos, I think they are still shipping out August Batches. You can keep track here: www.bobcatminer.com/shipping-update
Great video...however light hotspots are also in development across many manufactures including bobcat. Will be interested to see how things turn out
Thanks SK, Defo, I'm sure Bobcat will be deploying one of the first light hotspots. However they will only focus on Data, and not coverage. Also interested to see how it all plays out.
i have a nebra miner and im about to buy the bobcat 5g miner. can i have both of them set up in my household or will they interfere with each other?
Hey, having both in the same household won't work great as they'll be providing the same coverage. Would recommend shifting one to a different location, at least within the next hex.
Setting a indoor 5G small cell in residential area does not make sense. The coverage is so small that you can only cover your neighbor’s house. And your neighbors will likely to use their own Wi-Fi if they are at home. Your 5G hotspot will have no data to offload with.
Do u know if I’ll be able to use here in Canada?
Hey Wesley, currently only in the US, hopefully in Canada in the near future.
@@Crayban Thanks for replying to me with this information I understand it now and I appreciate it.
Bobcat is running Freedomfi gateway software. So it’s basically the same thing except the bobcat comes with wifi built in the freedomfi does not . They have come up with a software update for the fredonfi to go wifi
Can you use this with a sim card off grid?
Hey Dark, it will still require a wifi connection, unless you can have a portable wifi hotspot setup.
Hey will bobber 500 come to the UK?
Hey Ibrahim, not yet, until the UK provide an open source 5G frequency band for companies to build on and use. Or if Helium purchase a 5G frequency band, but thats super costly.
1000 dollars so it will take 10 years to break even
It will defo take some time, with the current state of the crypto market + amount of miners on board.
💪😎🇺🇲
Hi Cray,
Thanks for the video it is great again as usual. Do you have any idea when 5G will be available in Europe?
Hi Kenny, thanks for the support as always. To be honest, not fully sure. Hopefully Helium are having talks or making the right connections for it to broaden into the EU. If I come across any news, I will be sure to share it across my channel.
@@Crayban thx
Can I use bobcat 500 in Bahrain ?
Hey, it can only be operated in the US for now.
Umm yeah never going to happen in the UK
Haha, patience and some upper level talks, maybe it could squeeze through lol.
When can I order a Bobber 500?
Hey Wise, they have a pilot test program, more info pinned above. This will be for the initial batch.
good video! great info! thks!
Most welcome Sorin :).
Ty 4 information 💎👌
You're most welcome :)
helium is done rewards goes to validators and miners are useless
Not true
@@tupacOG84 I got 2 new helium bobcats300 if u want to sell obviously
Honestly depends on location, height and setup. I still have miners earning 0.5HNT a day, which is good for the current structure of the network. However without the price of HNT rising, it's hard to see long-term motivation in the community to keep miners running. Only those who believe in the project will mine for the long run.
@@Crayban 0,5 is great
@@Crayban and those who believe will be rewarded greatly i believe!
what about india ?
